Love yourself so much that when someone treats you wrong, you recognize it

“After the kids left the house, I decided to go to medical school and become a doctor. I was 48 at the time, and had been out of school for a long time. When I asked him if he thought it was a good idea, he said: ‘Sure. It’s your turn.’”

I would love to be this satisfied with my life so far, but the best I can do right now is inch my way towards it.

“I’ve seen and swam and climbed and lived and driven and filmed. Should it all end tomorrow, I can definitely say there would be no regrets.”

I began to realize how important it was to be an enthusiast in life. If you are interested in something, no matter what it is, go at it full speed ahead. Embrace it with both arms, hug it, love it and above all become passionate about it. Lukewarm is no good. Hot is no good, either. White hot and passionate is the only thing to be.

Omg this moment! I was genuinely freaking out at this point. I definitely would not have been able to recover as gracefully as John did.

Omg I love this book. I'm nearly finished, even after purposely taking a couple days off from reading hundreds of pages at a time. I am actually so sad it isn't another thousand (hundred thousand!) pages longer. There are tons of sequels but I haven't read any of the synopses in case they have spoilers for this book. Honestly, this book.

Tom Hiddleston reads When You Are Old by W. B. Yeats
When you are old and grey and full of sleep,
And nodding by the fire, take down this book,
And slowly read, and dream of the soft look
Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep;
How many loved your moments of glad grace,
And loved your beauty with love false or true,
But one man loved the pilgrim soul in you,
And loved the sorrows of your changing face;
And bending down beside the glowing bars,
Murmur, a little sadly, how Love fled
And paced upon the mountains overhead
And hid his face amid a crowd of stars.

Just because I liked something at one point in time doesn’t mean I’ll always like it, or that I have to go on liking it at all points in time as an unthinking act of loyalty to who I am as a person, based solely on who I was as a person. To be loyal to myself is to allow myself to grow and change, and challenge who I am and what I think. The only thing I am for sure is unsure, and this means I’m growing, and not stagnant or shrinking.

You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, ‘I have lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.’ You must do the thing you think you cannot do.
