Just hand studies this morning. These are from a mix of animated films (because they're masters of gesture and simplification) and stylised adaptations from photo reference. The goal is that you can't tell the difference between them 😉 Style is a bit more cartoonish than I'd usually draw but I lean towards over detailing all the time, so its the right type of technical workout for me. Currently about 150 hands done in a goal of doing 400 of these kind of studies. Colour combination test for the Google Puppeteer Show illustration. Once you have a palette picked out it's usually worth doing a round of testing different combinations of how to apply them. Blocking out basic shapes in Illustrator lets you play with this sort of thing really easily. I usually export to Photoshop after this stage – much easier to refine shapes and get into more nuanced details there.
