A. THRONE PRETENDERS
As the crown princess’ interview gets more popular, the people are more and more interested in what she has to say; specifically about downsizing the nobility, while cutting part of their salaries as well. Monarchy loyalists and anti-monarchists finally agree on someone.
Under those new lenses, monarchy seems more palatable.
Pretenders from no longer existing thrones put themselves together, to try to use this new gain in popularity in monarchy and try to rebrand themselves as part of this new movement, and organize to, with the future queen’s support, try to implement (back) the monarchy in their own countries.

As the Princesa de Asturias, JUANA AGUILAR Y MONTENEGRO announces her engagement, half of Spain is surprised: she is to be married to her reported “best friend”, ELISA AGUERO.
As the dashing new couple poses happily in the cover of magazines, an interview from the spanish journal EL PAÍS shows a different side to the Princess that no one heard yet. Before, she had been the quiet and obedient princess, but, for the first time she speaks out — and they don’t like what she has to say.
With ideas that go directly against her father’s in many issues (like the nobility’s position in the government, royal family salaries, and the slow but constant disregard of politicians under his rule) she becomes a symbol — of all things at once.
With a ideological radicalism, she refuses to play into the far-right movement that drowns Europe. Talking about immigration, poor people, taxes and refugees. Everyone is curious to what she has to say, but no one wants to listen.
Some people feel that she’s trying to break down the very expensive nobility, step by step. Others, that this is nothing but a publicity stunt to keep the monarchy on the headlines again. Some even say that this is her pressuring her father to resign as quickly as possible.
No one knows what her intentions are, but the rumours are enough to throw the newly-established spanish court into furor, and their already clashing opinions with the cortes generales only make things more dramatic.
It’s everyone for themselves now.

DISCLAIMER
MARCHA REAL is a political speculative fiction, alternate history roleplay, set in an alternative version of contemporary Kingdom of Spain. It has no connection to the real monarchy and it doesn’t try to.
For game purposes, we consider Spain’s history up until 1975, where our alternative timeline begins. MARCHA REAL only allows fictional royals, nobles, politicians and public figures.
⠀
⠀
(1975-2003)
After FRANCO’s death in 1975, Spain slowly transitioned into democracy.
Even though he had a small number of followers, FRANCISCO was crowned, because the opposition (who either wanted a continuation of authoritarian regime or a complete reform of the system) was too dividided and polarized to construct a united opposition. Naming his childhood best friend LUÍS MANUEL as presidente del gobierno, Spain saw a gradual transition. With the support from the cortes generales, a new special election was called in early 1976, cementing a new phase in the government.
The newly elected congress and in 1978 a new constitution was promulgated, establishing Spain as a parliamentary monarchy.
Over the next two decades, Spain saw several reforms, economic, social, educational; growing into a stronger nation, Spain prospered.
Despite some corruption scandals, none that directly involved the king, FRANCISCO’s reign was peaceful and, above all, tried to heal the wounds that existed in Spain and their people. His reign ended in 2003, after he died, peacefully, at 93 years old. The country mourned their good king, and some small but loud groups are still proposing his beatification.
Immediately after, his son, ENRIQUE FULL NAME, now, ENRIQUE V, was crowned the new King of Spain.
⠀
⠀
(2003-present)
Thenew royal family, headed by ENRIQUE (b. 1961), and his recently announced pregnant wife, LUÍSA of Valencia (b. 1968), were crowned in late 2003, and in his speech, the king promised to be good to the people and to keep his father’s legacy alive, while fixing some minor problems that may have missed the attention before.
ENRIQUE’s reforms began unsuspectingly: He, like his father, named AGNES, his old friend,as Asesora Especial del Rey, a seat that didn’t exist until then. This was the first move that put Spanish Nobility under a new light. While the monarchy had been reformed, the nobility lost their space and prestige to the politicians; but ENRIQUE, raised among them, was determined to bring them into new importance.
As the years came, the king’s reforms continued happening, in the same slow and gradual change. The reestablishment of a Spanish Court in the PALACIO REAL DE MADRID, where nobles from all around the country (and the world) were invited to participate in official state functions. It also became the official residence of the King’s Noble Staff, including the already previously appointed Asesora. Quickly it became a regular occurrence in the daily life of the nobility living in Madrid.
A couple of years later, two nobles were appointed as Ministros, and despite claims that the choice was made primarily by the Presidente del gobierno, it was clear that the Rey had influenced this choice.
In sixteen years, 5 nobles had been Ministros, 17 had been elected Diputados, and 3 had been elected Senadores; along the Asesora, the king named another 6 nobles to his personal staff and Guardia Real. The transition was gradual enough so there wasn’t any relevant backlash from major groups of the society.
However, as the Princesa of Asturias became engaged, a new page of Spain history began to be written. And it was about to be very different…

considering that this is an unsual setting for a roleplay, we made a guide to help you to start your research on building your character. covering the very basic topics like names, positions, ethnicities, political parties and religion. it’s not complete by any chance, but just a starting point.
if you are spanish or have any extensive knowledge of spanish culture don’t look at us and we apologize in advance.
⠀
names.
when naming your chatacter, consider spanish naming customs and spanish names. while there are a lot of variety within the culture, do consider your character’s age and their parents/grandparents name. some resources to help you to start your research.
⠀
groups.
those refer to their jobs. every single character must be directly connected to the conflict, being a previously established canon character. we have four groups of:
A. NOBLES titles inherited from birth (or marriage); mostly native spaniards. slowly creeping up in the government, under king enrique’s watch and support.
B. POLITICIANS democratically elected politicians; only native spaniards, slowly losing power under the rule of enrique v.
C. STAFFERS appointed position (by nobles or politicians); hired especifically with such positions in mind. generally under the control of nobles and/or politicians.
D. INDEPENDENT ROLES other roles, including (but not limited to): journalists, royal guard, etc.
⠀
origin.
this refer to your character’s birthplace. for game reasons, we are only considering: native and foreigners. (for this option, we’ll ignore situations of citizens and naturalization.)
A. NATIVE spaniards, characters born in spain (to native or foreigner parents). there are no limitations to the roles.
B. FOREIGNERS any character not born in spain; characters can be staffers and independant roles. they can be nobles, given that they are from a country with existing monarchies or from pretender royal families.
⠀
ethnicities.
while the main portion of spaniards are ethnically white europeans, this shouldn’t stop you from making a non-white character. not only there have been large immigrations to spain (especially from latin american countries), but spain colonized a lot of countries. influence of those countries is perfectly accepted in our version of modern spain.
⠀
religion.

political parties.
