Started playing Undertale Yellow yesterday evening. Dalv’s boss fight went swimmingly and I totally remembered the fact that sparing bosses in Undertale usually just involves surviving until your opponent finishes their one-man talk therapy session. I didn’t get genuinely frustrated by a video game NPC not noticing my insistent efforts at initiating a handshake. Promise.

I'm excited for it to begin! I haven't added any reference sheets beyond what I had last year--- I really don't know what people would want to draw from me, if anything, so I kinda just have been waffling in nervousness as I wait for the theme to be revealed.

Hey wouldn’t it be crazy if the human SOULS were revived after Undertale’s True Pacifist ending? Wouldn’t it be insane if they all had their memories of Flowey’s past resets restored after being absorbed? Wouldn’t it be messed up if Clover found a miraculously happy ending but was terrified of the fact that Flowey was unaccounted for and perfectly capable of ripping it all away at any moment, if he hadn’t already done so in the past, taking everyone’s joyful memories in doing so?

… Wouldn’t it be neat if Clover encountered Flowey on the surface?

Us Minish love Hylians. We do everything we can to make them happy. We make potions, arrows, collect seeds, mine rupees, all of it so a weary hylian can find it and be happy. Their joy was contagious, so much so I didn’t understand why they couldn’t talk to us, save for children. I didn’t just want to be with them. I wanted to BE them…

I put them on such a high pedestal and thought they were all good and selfless… that their world was better than mine… maybe that’s why… the goddesses kept us separate from them

Shadow Link returns

in my post-canon verse I think Vio doesn't try to bring Shadow Link back

actually, he actively tries to avoid outwardly acknowledging Shadow was even a part of his life. Vio wants Shadow to stay dead.

Vio betrayed Shadow for the sake of Hyrule, and if he could go back in time, he'd do the same exact thing again. but it doesn't change the fact that he damaged Shadow and his counterparts' trust in the process. maybe, in a way, it makes it worse. like he's appalled at himself for justifying how much pain he's caused. if Vio could excuse himself for betraying Shadow and hurting his comrades for "greater good", then what else would he excuse himself for? how far would he take it?

I think in a convoluted way, Vio doesn't necessarily feel guilty for what he did. he feels guilty for NOT feeling guilty in the moment. it's like a "wow I really did that" reflection kind of guilt

it's a deeply uncomfortable feeling to have, and Vio has no idea how to work through it. so instead, he just tried to repress it. Hyrule is saved, Zelda is saved, his family is alive and well. that's all that matters. Vio has to tell himself this in order to live with himself

but then Shadow comes back into Vio's life—against both of their wills—and Shadow is furious. that's when Vio realizes he doesn't have a choice: he can't run away from his guilt anymore
