Someone left a comment on one of my posts that got me thinking about the Rhys/Nesta hatred and how they're probably going to need to team up before the end just like Aelin/Dorian and Bryce/Ruhn.
Just like Aelin and Dorian are both descendants of Elena Galanthynius and Gavin Havilliard and Bryce and Ruhn are both descendants of Queen Theia and King Fionn on Helena and Pelias's side, I think Nesta and Rhys are both descendants of Queen Theia and King Fionn on Silene' side.
Aelin and Dorian are technically threats to each other since one is Queen of Terrason and one is King of Adarlan. Bryce and Ruhn are threats to each other because both are Starborn, with Bryce being even more powerful than Ruhn. Rhys views Nesta as a threat, and I think that's because they come from the same bloodline and because he seems to have Valg-like magic.
Rhysand's magic seems to be eerily similar to the darkness that the Valg spread, but it doesn't come with the memories, despair, or fear that Valg darkess possesses. Throughout ToG, fire magic is used as a powerful repellent to the Valg and their magic, both with Aelin's wildfire and Kaltain's shadowfire. Since Nesta seems to have godlike moonfire, it probably works the same way, which is why Rhys struggled so much to contain Nesta's magic. Even Queen Maeve was always terrified of Brannon and Aelin's fire magic.
Suffice it to say, I can see some potential parallels with Rhys and Nesta, Aelin and Dorian, and Bryce and Ruhn that leads me to believe that Rhys and Nesta will have to work together in the future for the good of Prythian, just like the others did for their worlds.

Feyre: How are you ever going to marry a nice male like Rhys?
Nesta: Which is it, Feyre? Marry a nice male, or someone like Rhys?
Rhys: ...If you were my wife, I'd put poison in your tea.
Nesta: If you were my husband, I'd drink it.

how to write monsters that actually scare and not sparkle
✦ first rule: don’t over-explain. once you give me the monster’s exact height, weight, claw count, and dental record, it’s not scary anymore. it’s a pokémon. mystery is the muscle. a shadow that almost looks human will always hit harder than a full description of a swamp beast. leave gaps. let the reader’s brain fill them in with their own worst fear.
✦ physics should not apply. horror monsters are terrifying when they break the rules of the world we think we understand. a body folding in ways it shouldn’t. joints bending the wrong direction. silence in a place that should echo. footsteps that sound like they’re coming from the ceiling instead of the floor. once you warp reality, the reader doesn’t feel safe in their own.
✦ chasing is fine. but waiting is worse. scarier than claws, scarier than snarling—try a monster that just stands in the corner and watches. even scarier? it smiles. because predators don’t smile unless they know something you don’t.
✦ let it act like it knows you. a growl is scary, sure, but a whisper of your name in the dark is worse. a hiss of your birthday. a laugh in your mother’s voice. monsters are no longer “other” once they feel personal. they’re invasive. they’re inside your head.
✦ bonus tip: give them wrong appetites. a monster that eats flesh is cliché. a monster that eats wallpaper? horrifying. one that eats memories, so a character wakes up without knowing their own name? disgusting. one that eats reflections from mirrors so you don’t see yourself anymore? revolting.

I’ll never ever ever get over Cardan Greenbriar writing Jude “Above me is the same silvery moon that shines down on you. Looking at it makes me recall the glint of your blade pressed against my throat and other romantic moments.”

i lovelovelove when jurdan artworks show Jude as the pining one - even (or especially) when it’s subtle!! for example: her eyes being focused on his lips, her being draped over his body(not so subtle), her holding him in some way, her face showing signs of stress or lust at his presence (love how he evokes those two specific emotions out of her lol), etc
like it’s so unbelievably peak. it undoes the common misconception that she doesn’t rly gaf abt him. an angel regains its wings when jurdan art is created in general but this specific genre just does it for me.
but cmon she was so obsessed w that man! let a gal show it! anyway artists i love you
