Dwelling in Hope

Studio Montclair is delighted to present its first exhibit devoted exclusively to photography, “Dwelling in Hope.” Dwelling In Hope through December 12, 2024 Leach Gallery 641 Bloomfield Avenue Montclair, NJ. Delving into a topic that is foremost in our minds today for a multitude of reasons, the show conveys images expressing the concept of finding hope within the familiar, everyday aspects of our lives. Works are comprised of images that, according to Juror Joel Morgovsky, “are meaningful…because they are ABOUT something, not just pictures OF something…Some artists used patriotic references, while others found spiritual resonances. Many depicted the hope they found in relationships, while others illustrated optimism that supports recovery, resilience, and perseverance.” Several artists also depicted the natural world including horticulture, clearly symbolizing anticipation for future seasons. Images depict a variety of venues ranging from individual homes to the larger community, encompass single individuals, interpersonal events, or natural surroundings, and portray symbols of refuge and possibility along with esoteric imagery that conveys the theme of hope. From June 1-30, 2024 nine Studio Tour SOMA artists from Maplewood and South Orange will have their work on display at the Library of the Chathams, Chatham, NJ

Wendy Bellermann works with paints that she creates herself, similarly to the artists of the stone age. Leslie Goldman /Wild Cherry Art has painted murals, worked for design firms, and held art director positions at major publishing houses. She holds awards for excellence in graphic design and in illustration. Denise Hardie’s lifelong love of art has led her to experiment with ceramics, painting and photography. Recently her focus is on collage and painting. Jennifer Malone’s representational, painterly oils reflect her contemplation of, and empathy for her subjects. Her still-life depict moments worth commemorating, considering, lamenting. Jeremy Moss is a multi-disciplined artist. He paints, sculpts and combines disciplines in his mixed media work and is a professional curator. Maria Savidis photographs nature, street scenes and landscapes. Her work on display at several exhibitions and on her website. Ken Stanek doodles detailed diaries of diners, dives, shops, cafes, and places. Jill Vondervor is a mostly representational watercolor painter, who recreates a memory of a place. Allan Wood delights in creating beautiful landscape, seascape, atmospherics and abstract images. Opening reception - Sunday, June 2, 2024 from 2-4pm 20% of all proceeds will go to the Library

Street Art in Samos

One of Greece's many beautiful islands, Samos, located in the North Aegean, not only has beautiful beaches and a rich history, but beautiful Street Art as well. One of the things that makes this street art mural of a woman interesting is that it looks different from different angles. It has not been painted between the yellow shutters of this building but rather on a courtyard wall that is visible from the windows and other openings in the yellow-shuttered wall.
