Updates to Marion's castle!
Tumblr media
The main teleporter entryway gets some new trim and new hallowed furniture, particularly shelves to display trinkets from various travels.
Tumblr media
This common area has a new upper floor for D&D sessions and such.
Tumblr media
The wall between the mall and the set of rooms below that common area has been broken down and turned into a gothic lolita style lounge full of rehomed furniture, plus some new pieces.
Tumblr media
That's because the tea room has been updated to include the new purple furniture. The residents on this side of the castle love it just as much.
Tumblr media
Above the tea room is this living room Marion doesn't talk about. The wall has been changed a bit and some new art deco sconces have been added to brighten the place up. Marion still won't get a TV. She won't say why.
This could have been a fancy sitting room but she put the grandma couch and the lay-z-boy in it. Clearly she doesn't care about aesthetics THAT much.
Tumblr media
Finally the kitchen has been rearranged slightly, with new cabinets and a sink, plus a new and more colorful backsplash. And a door has been added to the east wall for easy farm access!

I've been going back and redoing some old builds from a couple years ago because full disclosure I built them during a rough time in my life where I had near constant brain fog during the day and I was off whoring myself out for a different fandom at night so now I'm just looking at everything with fresh eyes and realizing that I wanna make some changes. be on the lookout for some updated castle interiors.

So a few year ago I re-created Zoe's trailer from re7. I rebuilt it and put it in a new area and built Sniper's camper from tf2, or at least what fans generally think is in the camper. I'm also planning a craft that involves this interior so playing around with design ideas helps. Tried to lean it a bit midcentury and oh my god i forgot a coffee maker and there's snow in the trailer. fucking hell. okay whatever here you go this is my videogame crossover trailer park

Problem with making sci fi dungeons is coming up with places that aren't just military tech bases, research facilities, mines or abandoned space stations.
I have the entirety of modern life to pull from and I come up blank somehow.

And now for the very top layer of this new colony on Polis II-c:
A big market and laundrette - mostly because I wanted to play with the washing/ drying machines from Vanilla+ (Vanilla+, City Co. Street Props, General Store, WW Furnishing, Cozy Furniture Pack, Prop Pack, Immersive Props).
A security base, from a 'I want more protection' quest. Again I had a play at making the background a bit more interesting. I think I'm getting the hang of this! (Maple32).
A chillout area/ path (City Co. Street Props, General Store, WW Furnishing, nuggubs' mod suite, Artifact Trophies, WW's VA-11 HALL-A, Prop Pack).
A 'Nuu' friend, who became a hydroponics scientist (I'm rather proud of the wallpapers in this) (Maple32, WW Furnishing).
An 'Alliance' friend, who became a Librarian (Elithian Races, nuggubs' Multiverse Goods)
And the continuation of the chillout walkway (nuggubs' mod suite, Maple32, Extended Furniture Crafting, More Outpost Objects)
I'm not quite sure how to continue this one. I could just keep building up in straight lines, but that seems a bit dull. Or I could find somewhere new to start another one (which might be the preference, as the music is lagging out when I teleport in now...).

This is the bottom layer of the right-hand side of the Polis II-c colony.
Here we have a 'tech' friend into their retro arcades and vaporwave (WW furnishing, Foodies furniture, nuggubs' Vanilla+);
Testing out the slime set (Foodies furniture);
An 'attract a tenant with a tungsten lamp and door' quest, which I decided needed to be a scientist (Foodies furniture, Prop pack, nuggubs' Vanilla+, More Outpost Objects, Extended Furniture Crafting);
On the other side we have a 'Nuu' friend (Foodies furniture, Maple32);
Another 'tech' friend, who I decided was an avian compsci person (Foodies furniture);
A 'Submerged' friend, whom I spent ages retrieving the stuff from the Altais Old Mine colony for (it's not craftable, only available from underwater Nuu vendors) (Maple32, Prop pack, nuggubs' Vanilla+, Elithian Races)
Tumblr media
This is the area that links the top left and right sides of this colony together. I thought I'd try out some of the wallpaper techniques suggested by marionandinteriordesign. IDK if they're any good; they are very small spaces.
Here we have:
An Apex friend
An 'iron chair and iron lamp' quest
An empty space for a spare workbench and forge (and a spare bed for someone)
A trader of unusual things
The teleporter, and a Totally Normal 1960's Earth Police Box.
(Mods: WW furnishing, Foodies furniture, nuggubs' Mod Suite, Elithian Races, Maple32, Prop pack, City Co. Street Props, WW's VA-11 HALL-A, More Teleportz)

only took like half a day for this post to breach containment out of the starbound fandom
my headcanon for why you find the same produce on wildly different planets all throughout the universe is that some are the result of convergent evolution and others are the result of conservation efforts, with some planets being used as wildlife reserves to rebuild certain plant populations and others having offworld species introduced to repair damaged ecosystems, but all are colloquially known as whatever type of food it is. for example everything that either is corn or isn't true corn but looks like corn is grouped under corn. this is also why the avesmingo can taste like basically anything.
either way it's impossible to know if that kiwi is a true kiwi or a space kiwi so just don't worry about it and put it in your fruit salad and whether or not it tastes or feels different depends on the kinds of kiwis you've had up until this point

🤔 What's the most memorable thing that's happened to you in-game?
🧡️ from @dru-plays-starbound
🏟️ - I wouldn't say any of them are hard because the combat in this game is simple enough for me to not be terrible at it but any structure with detours or backtracking before I've cleared the whole thing do annoy me, so floran caverns, sewers, things like that
🧘- janitor. because they have the broom most of the time and then when it comes to a fight they pull out a gun. makes me think of the "if you wanna be a contract killer you have to start with sweeping floors" thing from Deadpool 2
🤔 - this didn't necessarily happen to me because I did it to myself but the first time I ever tried to collect every single bug nearly broke me. but whenever I look at my completed collection I'm glad I did it and I think about all the time I spent exploring and looking for 3 pixel wide specks

my headcanon for the avesmingo is that it evolved different tastes to allow more animal but especially sapient species to spread its seeds. reverse capsaicin. it basically expects to be farmed in large quantities.

As an added bonus, here's some of my wallpapered rooms as a little inspo board. The update to the bohemian set makes the color block areas of the showroom even more fitting.
WW Wallpapers- a tutorial
I LOVE the WW Furnishing mod and I especially love its wallpapers, and I've been thinking about making a tutorial for a while, but now that I have officially been enabled (thank you @dru-plays-starbound) I sat down this morning to finally make one.
This is Marion. Marion is standing in a criminal's old hideout that has been mostly gutted and had its lighting replaced. This room alone should be a good size space to play around in.
Tumblr media
But of course this still has its old wall, so step 1 is to remove it and start with a hollow shell. Unfortunately Marion could not stop the relentless passage of time and now night has fallen.
Tumblr media
You know at this point I really regretted choosing a structure on a planet whose parallax is a bunch of vertical lines which is THE go-to wallpaper pattern. Nonetheless we shall sally forth.
Have some wallpaper rainbows.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These are the solid colors. There's a corresponding Solid I Wallpaper to that first borderless solid, but I left that one out because this one shows all the colors you can turn it to and solid 1 is just an unassuming gray square, and full disclosure I have so many interiors to update because the solid and bordered wallpapers together are jarring and I hate it. That first one is for the vanilla colors, and the other solids have the modded colors.
"solid wallpaper, borderless solid wallpaper, what does that mean" Well, the borderless wallpapers are exactly that. These are good for the back walls, and the bordered wallpapers are your side walls.
If you look close enough at those blocks of half rainbows, you can see that from top to bottom, these colors are all arranged in the order of your matter manipulator's paint tool Cycle to that color, get that wallpaper's color. Be prepared for an intimate relationship with the paint tool, especially as we go further into this.
Okay it's morning. Let's look at the wallpapers.
Tumblr media
Here are those solid colors along with modded versions of the classic and striped wallpapers in vanilla Starbound. Don't be deceived by their default grayness--these will give you more vibrant versions of those wallpapers. I didn't cover this because we all probably know the vanilla wallpapers are ass, but to test this for yourself go put up some classic vanilla wallpaper and go to town with the paint tool. You'll see that the colors are depressingly faded.
Tumblr media
Look at all those pretty colors. Modded starbound is the best. What you see is exactly what you get, but those other blocks are gonna have you painting a wall pink with green.
Also the teleporter is offscreen to the left and Marion has had to turn into a spike sphere to get past that wall. Let's get rid of these.
Tumblr media
That's better. And here's just a few of those modded colors on the other solid blocks. Thankfully Solid II wallpaper has a lot of similar colors to the modded borderless solid.
Let's talk about those modded wallpapers a little bit.
Tumblr media
See what I mean? That pink color takes the place of green in the paint tool's color order, but rest assured this is how Marion painted that borderless pillar. That will allow us to use some of those modded wallpapers, like this.
Tumblr media
This is just one example, and those lace wallpapers are borderless. Some patterned wallpapers have borders, and that includes our modded versions of the vanilla wallpapers from earlier. But that specific solid in that specific color is the only reason this works. Marion, could you slap a bunch of solids around a patterned wallpaper and paint it all green please?
Tumblr media
Thank you. Always know which solid wallpaper you're using. Unless you want this. I'm not gonna judge.
Now let's get into some proper wallpapering. Marion, tear that all down and put up a solid color. Any color, any wallpaper.
Tumblr media
Okay, default solid 2 it is. Also I can't help but notice you've been eating on the job. That is an entire chocolate cake under your arm.
Also it's nighttime but we won't have gaping holes in this building for much longer. Let's keep going!
Wow, look at all that pink. This is nice, but what if you don't want a huge wall of pepto bismol?
Tumblr media
You could always paint some stripes. But we didn't do our math here, so that last purple stripe is an extra block wide. Might want to choose a smaller stripe pattern. Like i said, be prepared for an intimate relationship with the paint tool. Including the eraser at the end.
In the meantime, let's see those bordered wallpapers and borderless wallpapers together in action. Marion, knock out the walls again. Yeah, knock out one of those iron block walls too.
Tumblr media
Looking good, but this is still a little boring. Let's add some baseboard trim.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That's better. Also we're almost out of this kind of wallpaper so we just shaved off like 12 blocks.
But why stop at trim on the bottom when you could put trim...
Tumblr media
...on TOP?
There's a ton of vanilla blocks I would recommend for trims, but we only packed a few. But what if you still don't like that solid red?
Tumblr media
There's that smaller pattern I was talking about! But the dark tones of the wood and the dark tones of the red are kind of drowning each other out. Time for a paint job!
Tumblr media
And now the teams have been auto-balanced.
Tumblr media
Marion you stupid slut you got levitating dirt all over the construction site and now you're breaking the walls and making the wallpaper pattern look like that thing I hate. If you put a window up there I swear to god.
Tumblr media
Just kidding! She just needed scaffolding so she could add an even fancier trim to the top! And since we only had these starry blocks on hand we might as well paint it green. Now that's a fancy room.
But that's not all! Here's some other uses for wallpaper!
You could use wallpaper...
Tumblr media
...for a loft!
Tumblr media
Or a kitchen backsplash!
Tumblr media
Or a bathroom in your loft!
You could even use it...
Tumblr media
AS TRIM???
Tumblr media
If those big blocks of wallpaper still bother you, consider adding wall hangings or windows.
Tumblr media
Happy wallpapering!

i have a confession to make
the food court is the next part of ICEA (it's on a tundra planet sitting on the smooth ice hence the name) and I can't find a way to get some sort of customizable food vendor in there. all I know is that I want some kind of food to be like the signature dish like ikea's swedish meatballs and i want it to be easily available to either buy or make. my plan if I can't find a mod is to put a whole farm to table production line under the building.
I've been putting it off and that's why i returned to monke but I'm glad to have my guy Dima back in action
