New companion
There was even more paperwork to do today. Marissa always had more to look over once tournaments began to get closer. It was a little bit of a lonely job, without three little girls climbing all over her. Marissa didn't think she'd ever get used to being without them.
Well... At least she wasn't really alone.
Her green eyes slowly moved to the corner, where she knew a little noirette girl was hiding in a pocket realm, drawing contently and wordlessly.
"I appreciate you being here, and I'm sure you enjoy yourself, but..." Marissa paused, waiting for the child to exit the pocket realm to stare up at her with her red eyes. "You should really get some friends your own age. I can only provide so much for you."
"Maddy has friends." The girl replied, going back to drawing her gruesome imagery. "Maddy has Avery. And Cove. And her unit. She has friends."
That was certainly relieving to hear. Marissa was worried that Maddy was isolating herself from everyone.
The conversation should have been finished at that assurance, but for some reason, Marissa realised she had just asked a question. The words weren't surprising to her.
"Have you spoken to anyone in unit 990? Perhaps, Meri or Remi?"
"Maddy sometimes goes there. She doesn't see Remi, but Meri is always with El."
"..How is she?"
"She likes El a lot. They play dress up together. Maddy hides when they do, she doesn't like dress up."
"Thank you." Marissa's tail tip twitched as she thought about her... About the feisty little blue-head. It seemed she was adjusting. That was good.
With nothing more to say, the two fell silent and went on with their work. The woman dictating fates and the little girl drawing her memories.

Talking things over
TW: Implied child abuse, mentions of death, minor self harm
“Oh.”
Annie’s face fell as soon as Lilly gave her blunt answer.
“Oh. Well, I don’t think I- we can help, so I kind of lied.”
Of course. Lilly already knew this. She just shoved a spoon of custard into her mouth as an answer.
“Not to say I- We don’t care or anything! Because we do! Right, Mina?” Annie nudged the brunette next to her, who jumped, spilling her smoothie on the table. She stared downcast at the yellow liquid now wasted, dissolving as the enchantment on the table cleaned it. “Oh..”
Lilly nudged her custard towards Minako, rather put off by the girl’s sorrowful expression. Minako’s face brightened and she took it, her quiet voice uttering a small “thanks”.
Resting her head on her hand, Lilly glanced towards the hot chocolate stand. Normally she’d go grab one more as soon as she had finished hers, but she felt a surprising wave of lethargy. “I didn’t expect any help. It just unsettled me.” She paused, then continued hesitantly. “I had hoped she would be dead by now....”
Annie didn’t get it. “Yeah, didn’t she abandon you? I’ll kill her myself, if you wan-“ the blonde stopped speaking as she was fixed with a murderous stare from the younger assistant. “I’d like to see you do anything different in her situation at the age of six.”
“Hmph. I would never have done that when I was six. We were practically besties.”
“Did you grow up in a training centre?” “...No.”
Lilly didn’t voice her victory, twitching her ear. The memory probed at the edges of her thoughts, and she decided to indulge it this time.
”Auby?”
The pink-head froze in her tracks, turning around to see her small, thin little sister standing at the edge of the hallway. Lilly’s wide eyes bored into her sister’s, the shape and fear inside them both the same. Sounds of a fight echoed behind them from their cell. Now was their chance. Lilly held out her hand, hoping for Aubrey to lead her away.
But instead, Aubrey just stared at her. A scream cut through the air.
Aubrey broke eye contact with her sister as she turned to run. Lilly stared after her, legs frozen and hand still outstretched....
The sound of a mug clinking on the table broke Lilly out of her thoughts. Minako gave a small smile to her. “Here, I refilled your cup.” The sweet smell of hot chocolate touched her nose.
It was times like this that she really appreciated her life now. Lilly had grown accustomed to the pain by now and just these acts of kindness made it all worth it. She nodded her thanks and drowned her thoughts by finishing the burning hot drink in one go. Her throat was also accustomed to the pain.
Both Annie and Minako watched her with concern. Minako raised her hand and opened her mouth, but Annie interrupted her, obviously finding it better to continue the conversation. “If I loved you, I wouldn’t want you dea- Ow!” Minako must have kicked her under the table. Annie winced, then realised her mistake. “I mean, since I love you, I don’t want you... My question is, why? Look, I’m asking to help her. Don’t look at me like that.”
The ending comment was directed towards the younger brunette, who gave a look to Annie. It was a strange way to aid Lilly in her troubles, but she knew that the leopard crossbreed only meant well.
“An unprotected child running throughout the forest would at the very best get found and sold, and at the worst would have unspeakable things done to her. Growing up with that, even if she was freed eventually, she would not ever be happy. At least I had friends to endure things with, she would have nobody.”
The silence they all shared afterwards was comfortable to Lilly, but she could tell the other two didn’t like it. From Annie’s furrowed eyebrows, she was trying to think of what to say. Minako’s hands were trembling, a sign she was thinking of whether or not to hug Lilly. Eventually, she decided to do so, her gloved hands interlocking around Lilly’s back.
”Where are you hurt?” Aubrey whispered. They were hiding in the corner of the cell, under a blanket. Hannah was not here today, the caretaker that was would hit them at any sign of a noise.
Lilly shook, her hands clasped across her mouth as she tried to hold in her sobs. It made her chest hurt even more, and tears were starting to roll down her cheeks. Her ears flattened against her head as she gestured to her shoulder with her tail. Aubrey carefully moved around to glance at it, her own ears flattening as she saw the puffy red gash. The growing fury on her older sister’s face terrified Lilly, and she looked down to the floor, squeezing her mismatched eyes shut. They opened again to a pained squint as Aubrey’s arms wrapped around her, the latter shaking in presumably anger. Lilly buried her face in Aubrey’s brown hooded uniform, her small hands moving from her mouth to clutch at the cloth. The warmth comforted her....
Such times were painful, but at least she had her sister. The image of Aubrey’s stained, tired young face compared to the older, more lively one she had seen yesterday haunted her, and Lilly didn’t quite know why she was so scared at the thought. No, she knew.
Aubrey did not remember her.
She did not even remember her own name.
When they spoke in the hospital reception, her attitude was so different, her smile so wide, her face so innocent, it was definitely Aubrey, but her personality was gone. Her memories were gone. Her name was gone.
“She seemed happy.”
Lilly spoke without realising, so Annie’s response took her by surprise.
“Is that good?”
“...Yes. And if she recognised me, it would only cause complications.”
Complications. Yes. Aubrey could not know what Lilly did now. She couldn’t know who Lilly had become. She cou-
Wait.
A pair of green eyes watched the trio from the table next to them. Lillian. She had heard every word. Annie and Minako had noticed her too, and they looked petrified.
The dragon crossbreed thoughtfully tilted her head, her thin eyes staring into Lilly’s apparently indifferent ones. She then got up and left.

The terrible trio
It was a peaceful day in unit 990. Well - as peaceful as it could get. Kestra was sitting down beside Avery, her head resting on her knees as she talked softly to the newer subject. 990 was resting on the bed beside them, but was trying to listen to their conversation closely. He stopped pretending to ignore them once he heard Avery's reply to Kestra.
"You're a lot nicer than 990 and 991..."
"Hey!" 990 shouted, turning over on his side. El jumped a little from her position next to 991 on the floor, where the older child was trying to get her to play Snakes and Ladders with her.
Kestra only rolled her eyes and ignored him. "They're okay. They just..." She paused, glaring at 990, then continued through gritted teeth. "Take a while getting used to."
Avery gave the red-head a faint smile, then opened her mouth to respond before she was interrupted by a shout.
"LET ME GO! LET ME GO RIGHT NOW, OR I'LL DO YOUR FACE IN!"
It was coming from outside. All five children in the room turned to look at who was making the ruckus.
"Isn't that glass supposed to be sound proof..?" 991 murmured. El looked up at her anxiously, startled by the noise.
There wasn't really any point in replying, because evidently, the glass separating the dorms from the corridor was not sound proof. The angered screams of a blue-head child being tussled through the hallway by an annoyed assistant were quite clearly reaching the eardrums of unit 990 and even unit 980, who Kestra could see was also looking towards the commotion.
They could also hear the quieter attempts to calm the angry girl from a shorter, purple-head child.
"Calm down."
"Calm down? CALM DOWN!? Does this situation seem like one I can CALM DOWN IN!?"
"You're scaring Irem. Panicking won't do anything right now except get us hurt."
"So, uh, new subject?" 991 suggested, Avery visibly paled. Maybe the idea of such a loud roommate didn't suit her very well.
990 sighed in response. "Seems like it. Every newbie keeps getting worse. Can't we get somebody quiet?"
"And what do you mean by worse?" Avery raised an eyebrow.
"I mean worse." The male's voice was deadpan.
"I suppose our game is cancelled then." 991 began putting the pieces back in their box, then paused. "Unless you can still play with this... Disturbance, 994?" Her yellow eyes were trained on El.
The younger child was clutching her tail nervously, her head continuously glancing at the hallway, despite her lack of eyes and the party of people having already passed their dorm. "U-um, sure.. I can still play, I guess..." A shaky smile was given to the brunette waiting for her answer.
The screams of the angry blue-head were still audible, but now distant. Words weren't really in said screams anymore either, they were just screams of pure rage. 991 ignored them, happy to just play. "Right. Choose a piece."
990 put his pillow over his head. "They have to disturb us all, don't they? Even 995 wasn't that loud. And she was plenty annoying."
Avery coughed a few times, her eyes narrowed and trained on 990. Her coughs resulted in purple smoke being expelled from her lungs and into the air. Well that wasn't concerning at all. "IIIII'll take that as a compliment. Thank you, 990." She slyly replied, turning her head back to Kestra. "Are you feeling better now? A month is.. A plenty long time to be in bed."
The red-head's response was lacking in substance. All she said was; "A bit", before her eyes flicked back to the hallway.
"That's- that's great, at least!" An awkward thumbs up. "So, wanna check out the screaming?" She glanced at the hallway then back at Kestra.
"Not worth it. Probably just a new subject, as 991 said."
"Was- was I screaming too, when I came in the unit? I don't reaaally remember toooo much from the ride over here..." Avery rubbed her head, glancing at 990.
"Not at... Oh, dear." Kestra reached forward to place her hand on Avery's shoulder in reassurance, but stopped when she watched the blue-head and the purplette being escorted into the dorm. Well, the purplette and a little brunette next to her were the only ones.. Escorted. The blue-head was dragged in by the arm and then pushed forward. In retaliation, she ran at the assistant who did the action, trying punches, kicks, whatever would land on him - but nothing did, as he just held her back by placing his hand on her forehead. He smirked, twitched his large, mouse ears once, and then pushed her back in a bored manner. As she fell onto the floor, the door closed.
991 wasn't impressed. She simply glanced at the display and then turned right back to her game with El. El, on the other hand, was very distracted, her arm hovering in place with the piece that she was supposed to move 4 squares as her eyes focused on the newcomers.
Also not impressed was 990. He huffed then turned on his bed so his back was facing his roommates. A muffled "annoying..." could be heard.
"Hello? A-Are you two okay? We heard screaming." Avery slowly stood up and tentatively approached the purplette and the brunette curiously, tilting her head and putting her hand to her mouth. El was attentively listening, her little hand still clutching the piece.
The purplette ignored Avery, going towards her older friend to try and calm her down. Meanwhile, the small brunette looked up at Avery, nervously fiddling with her braid. "Um.. Yes, I think.. Not so sure about Meri, though.." She flinched as the blue-head, presumably 'Meri', began yelling and bashing on the glass overlooking the hallway. The purplette was trying to calm Meri down, but it wasn't really getting anywhere.
Avery decided to take this into her own hands. She shook off the urge to cover her ears, glancing at a nervous El who was flattening her ears, and then walked up to Meri slowly. "Hey, um, it's okay. Try to calm down, please?" Nervous smile and another glance at El. Now, 991 was holding the younger child's hand, glaring at the newcomers.
Meri looked at Avery for a moment, falling silent, as if she just realised it wasn't just her and the other two in this room. She seemed to be trying to find something to say for a moment, before 990 spoke from his bed.
"Shut up. You're giving me a headache."
"CALM DOWN?! YOU EXPECT ME TO CALM DOWN!?" The shouting girl seemed to be getting even angrier with each word. Avery mentally facepalmed. Why did 990 have to ruin everything?
"Yeah, I tried that." The purplette muttered angrily. The brunette clung to her oversized sleeve, looking nervously at Meri. Avery decided to try a different approach. "You're going to make them upset and come for us. If you don't calm down, they're going to hear you!" She worriedly warned, making a point to glance around for any supervisors who might make her words come true.
"What the heck do you mean?" At least she wasn't shouting anymore. Her tone was still angry, but not loud. However, she was now glaring at Avery.
The purplette tried again. "Oh, please, Meri. Be quiet. Look at Irem, you're scaring her." She said, gesturing with her free hand to the nervous child clinging onto her sleeve.
"Well she should be scared!" Meri shot back.
As the blue-head had requested, Avery elaborated on her statement. "They do things to us.. Horrible things.. If they aren't happy. N-Now, if you don't want to be... Punished, you should be quiet. We can all talk! I'm Avery, and you?" She tried to smile despite the very concerning things that just came out of her mouth, outstretching a hand and then dissolving into a coughing fit, exhaling a worrying amount of purple smoke. Meri just stared.
Ignoring Avery's coughing fit, 991 interjected. "That's not how it works."
"Be quiet." She shot a glare at 991. The brunette, presumably 'Irem' from what the purplette said, worriedly glanced at the coughing girl. "Um, are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm good. They did this to me. They did stuff to.. All of us."
990 twisted around to glance at Avery. "Why are you being so dramatic?"
"I'm just telling the truth! Why are you being so casual?" Avery shot back, annoyed. Irem looked absoutely terrified, but she managed to keep her voice steady. "I'm Irem."
"Um, nice to meet you, Irem." As Avery said this, El dropped the piece onto the ground and went to her bed, curling up in her blanket. Maybe the commotion was a bit too much for her.
At this, Meri calmed down a little, taking a deep breath. She then inhaled to say somthing, catching the eye of 990 who glared at her. "Don't open your mouth. Nobody wants to hear your screaming." Avery cringed. 990 was just begging for a fight at this point...
The purplette stepped forward, trying to draw attention from Meri, who had stormed over to 990 and was now yelling at him. "Aaaanyway, I'm Remi. And, as you've probably gathered, that over there is Meri." She scratched the back of her head apologetically.
"Did YOU just tell me to SHUT UP!? HOW DARE YOU!" Screamed Meri.
The boy groaned, putting his head under his pillow again. "I am trying to get some peace. Can you please not scream at the top of your lungs?" His voice was pained.
Avery also decided to ignore the two. She shook Remi's hand and smiled at her. "Nice to meet you all. The boy over there who's been antagonising Meri is 990, he doesn't have a name. And that's Kestra over there, 991 putting the box away - she also doesn't have a name - and El in the blanket." She paused, then added; "Thank you for being civil."
Remi looked confused. "It's a normal thing to do?" She then realised what Avery meant. "Oh. I guess not to them, huh?"
Meanwhile, Irem played with the tag on her white dress. "What is this?" She questioned, furrowing her eyebrows. Avery bent down to Irem's height. "That's a number, 996." She explained, guessing the child couldn't read. She then replied to Remi. "Yeah, they're aggressive. Don't mind them - they can be nice when you get to know them."
"But why? I know what a number is. Why is it there? I'm.. Confused." Irem really looked devestated at her confusion. She was sort of cute, causing Avery to smile a little as she tried to explain. "We all have numbers, sometimes people don't remember names, so they just look at our shirts! So, if you forget my name, you can just call me 995. Just to remind you, though - my name is Avery." She finished.
Irem gave Avery a small smile, then turned to Remi, clutching her shirt. "So.. do you.. Think we'll see mother again?" Remi simply looked away, frowning.
Meanwhile, since Irem and Remi seemed to have calmed down, Avery went to mediate between Meri and 990. "Excuse me." She took a deep breath. "Will you please stop fighting!?" She then broke out into another coughing fit, covering her mouth with her able and yelping as her sleeve got burnt. Well... Well.. That certainly wasn't concerning at all!
The fight seemed to have gotten physical at this point. 991 was inbetween the two, annoyed and trying to seperate them. At Avery's words, they both turned and glared at her, as if trying to tell her not to get involved.
Avery sighed. This would be hard. She decided to listen to them, turning around and going to El, who was still wrapped in her blanket.
This may be a little all-over the place, and that's because it's a rewritten section of a roleplay. Incase you've never tried to rewrite roleplay replies, they tend to be really hard to make it so the writing runs smoothly.
Avery and El DO NOT belong to me. They are my friends' OCs and i hold no ownership over them.

Caught redhanded
TW for badly written and immensely sweet fluffy romance
"What're you reading?" Autumn bent over from her seat on the bed, trying to see what the man on the floor was so invested in.
His black eyes left the book and met hers, and he instinctively smiled. "Magic theory. Adam lent me one of his books on threads." Willow explained, glancing at the page number and closing the book so Autumn could see the title.
The blonde nodded, knowing those were the only books Willow read anyway. Neither of them were very big readers. "Ah, yes. Nothing new, then."
The imp pouted. "Why does that sound like an attack?" He asked, his eyes widening.
Autumn hummed. "I don't know, why does it?" She asked, tilting her head innocently. She couldn't hold her feigned innocence for long though, eventually breaking out into a giggle. Willow could be so cute sometimes.
"You were messing with me." His voice was hurt, but he was just pretending. Willow got up and laid his book on the ground, standing up to lean over Autumn. She leaned back in response, looking up at him as he continued speaking. "That isn't very nice!"
"I'm sorry, but how could I not with that cute little face of yours?" At Autumn's comment, Willow beamed, placing his hand on the wall so he could lean closer towards Autumn. "Apology accepted, you're correct." His tone was smug.
The daisy entwine thought for a moment, furrowing her eyebrows. "Hmm.. Not cute enough, though."
"Huh??"
"I have an idea!"
She then reached up to the side of his head, placing her hand on the side of his head so a daisy appeared, the stem interlocking with the brown strands of his hair. "There we go, now you're even cuter than the children in the nursery. "
Willow blinked once or twice, opening his mouth to speak but falling silent as his cheek was cupped by the girl's other hand.
And then, Ryu chose that moment to enter the room.
"Hey, Autumn? I think I left-" She stopped speaking, seeing the two turn to look at her and reading the situation. "Oh.. Oh. I'll go look for it... Elsewhere." She quickly reverse walked out of the room, shutting the door.
The two took a moment to react, still both turned towards the door. "I'll- I'll go see what she needed." Autumn hastily got up, quickly walking towards the door.
Willow stared after her. "Uh- right. Yeah.. Well, I told Adam I'd be back about five hours ago."
"What!?" The blonde turned around, her eyes widening. "Then why were you still here?!"
"You're just so captivating, Autumn. How could I resist?" His eyes widened as he plaintively looked at her. "He won't even mention it, anyway. You know Adam."
Autumn winced. Poor thing, he was probably thinking Willow honestly forgot. Of course Willow would take advantage of somebody so gullible...

Unknown Grudge
TW: Violence
Today, Musa got a day off work! How awesome!
Evidently, he was happy about this. He drummed his fingers on the table, not bored as he would usually be while waiting for lunch.
Adam watching him intently, his face bright as he put down his book. "Wow, Musa! You look happy today!" He commented cheerfully.
"Why, of course. It's not every day I get to do nothing!" Musa replied, leaning forward so his head was on the table. He looked up at Adam, his eyes boring into the other teenager's, and then quickly sat upright. "And you just happened to tag along. I would be fine without you!" He pretended to be annoyed. Adam looked crestfallen. "Should I go..?"
"No, no. It's okay! I.. Don't mind that much, actually." He quickly amended his fault, scanning over the menu. "Oh, wow, haha. These food options all suck."
"Actually, I think they look good- wait, if you didn't like the menu, why did you-?"
"EXCEPT the one i ordered! Hah!" Musa slammed the menu down and looked to the side, his ears upright and rigid. "Wow, look at the time. That chef takes ages. Why did they let him volunteer again?" He complained, trying to find something to complain about that Adam wouldn't shoot down. He failed. "It's been five minutes." Was the other boy's innocent reply.
He was about to try to find something else to complain about, when he caught the eye of a girl staring at him. She had blue hair tied in loose pigtails and green eyes that were narrowed in his direction. She was also sitting alone, L, and hadn't touch the plate of food in front of her. How long had she been staring at him!? That was creepy - Musa didn't like that!!
"Hey! What are you staring at!?" He shouted, standing up and thrusting both hands on the table. Adam jumped and nervously looked over his shoulder at the girl.
"Mind your own business!" The girl shouted back, angrily biting into her sandwich. Who went out to eat for just a sandwich!? That was weird behaviour.
Soon enough, their lunch was delivered. Musa stared at his food, took a bite, then spoke. "This is gross." He commented, thinking about how good it was. He really liked this food.
"Oh.. Wanna swap?" Adam asked, tilting his head worriedly. Musa shook his head quickly. "No! No, it's fine." Even if he didn't like his food, which he did, he wouldn't swap with Adam. He hated soup. Ugh, why would people drink liquid and call it food?? That was just dumb. He continued to down his very fancy salad, then glanced once again at the girl. She was still staring at him, despite her sandwich being finished. Again, who ordered sandwiches at a restaurant? What kind of psycho would do that? Ew.
Adam looked at Musa with wide eyes. "Um, what's wrong?" He asked, reading the expression on the older teen's face. "That girl keeps staring at me. I'm gonna tell her what I think of t-"
He didn't get the chance to do so. The girl got up and stiffly walked towards him, putting her hands on her hips. "You." She hissed.
What a bad entry line. Musa could do better. Unfortunately, the idiot girl didn't give him a chance to start the.. 'Conversation'.
"Um- Guys?" Adam quickly got up and stood between the two. Musa guessed he could sense the fight that was evidently going to start with this.. Child. Well, Adam couldn't do anything, anyway. Musa was the one with murder training. The child probably couldn't do much either.
Of course, as said, Adam 100% couldn't do anything. He was just pushed to the side by the girl, who thrust her face close to Musa. "You. Do you think I'd forget?" Her voice was low. Musa folded his arms. "Considering I've forgotten, yeah. Forgive and forget, that's my motto." That was not his motto.
In response, the girl pushed Musa out of his chair, catching him off guard. He fell on the floor. Wow, he didn't think she'd pull the starting move. He knew there'd be a fight, but... He didn't think she'd have the guts to attack him first!
Once he was on the ground, the girl launched herself on top of him and began to repeatedly punch his face. People turned to look at them. Adam was trying to break them apart, but too afraid to enter the conflict himself.
Better not, he'd be torn to shreds. Probably by me. Would probably be an accident. Musa thought to himself, pushing the girl off of him, grabbing her by the collar and flinging her into the table. She hit her head. Ooooh, that's gonna hurt! He thought again with glee.
Apparently, though, the girl still had some fight in her. She got up, rubbed the back of her head and flung herself back at Musa. "Wow, you're really bad at fighting." He commented, holding her back by placing his palm on her forehead and keeping her there. While she decided to bite his hand, Musa simply laughed. "It's almost impressive how little you're hurting me right now."
"Shut up!" The girl screeched, pushing his hand away (with all the strength she could muster) and trying to kick him. Musa sidestepped her attack. This was getting boring. He sighed, deciding he'd end this now.
Easily twisting around the girl, Musa clung onto her neck and pushed her towards the floor, landing a solid punch onto her head. That definitely knocked her out. Well, it was a noble effort. He still didn't know why she was so angry, but oh well. Didn't matter.
As the heat of the fight bleeding out of his mind, he looked up. People were staring. Adam was looking at him with a pained expression. Musa didn't get it.
"What?"
Adam: beating up children is wrong:(
Musa: okay your point?

Rumour had it that two cute new subjects had been integrated into unit 940. Autumn was pulling Ponchio with her by the hand, following Ryu and Aki on the energetic feet of an eight year old. Ryu, Aki and Autumn loved to great new subjects. Ponchio normally stayed behind, but today Autumn felt stubborn and dragged him along with them.
Soon, they got to unit 940's room. 940 was given 910's old subject dorm, you could tell it was theirs by the drawings still plastered on the glass. Ryu said that a boy from 910 loved to draw, but she apparently couldn't recall who. Autumn liked that idea, so once Ryu told her she had stuck her scribbles all over the walls of unit 930's subject dorm. She wasn't staying there anymore, but the idea of future units seeing her sketches excited her.
"Good morning!" Autumn called enthusiastically, opening the door to 940. A familiar red-head boy brightened up when he saw her, a smile crossing his face. "Aubie!" A tag labelled '941' was pinned onto his pristine white shirt.
"Her name is Autumn." Ponchio huffed, removing his hand from Autumn's and crossing his arms. He watched Ryu close the door and pouted. Autumn didn't know why he was annoyed, but Ponchio could be annoyed about the weirdest stuff so she wouldn't dwell on it.
She wouldn't dwell on the boy who had called out to her, either. She would only dwell on the two children in the corner of the room, eyeing her and her friends nervously. They sat on the same bed and were identical, probably around six years old. One of them had a white dress instead of white shorts and a white shirt, so Autumn assumed that child was a girl.
Without hestiation, Autumn launched herself onto the bed next to the girl. "Hey!! I'm Autumn, and youuu?" She leant in close to the girl, said child flinching backwards. "U-um-" The girl could only stutter and leaned closer to the boy next to her as he tightened his grip on his look-alike's hand.
"Oh, don't worry! I can give you space if you need it." Autumn cheerfully got off the bed, sitting on the floor instead. Ryu often said she needed to give people space so they could breath.
It seemed to have worked, both children seemed more at ease with the distance put between Autumn and them. There was a silence, in which the elder girl beamed expectantly at them.
"Oh, don't be like that, Autumn." Ryu put her hand on Autumn's shoulder, to which Autumn looked up at her and tilted her head. "What? What did I do?"
"You could be more gentle." Autumn frowned as she was gently scolded, but moved to the side to diligently watch Ryu at work. The light dweller knelt down and gently put her head on the bed, smiling charmingly and speaking softly. "Hey."
It seemed to have worked. The boy spoke. "Hello." His eyes were wide and fixed on the girl speaking to him.
"I'm Ryu, what are your names?"
"Um.. W-Willow. And this is Fi." He didn't gesture to his look-alike, he instead pulled her close to him. 'Fi' didn't seem to mind, but she did seem to want to correct the boy. "Finnet."
"Those are wonderful names." Ryu glanced at Autumn, a sign that the younger could continue.
Autumn did not miss a beat. "Oh! Are you siblings? You both look the same, it's really cool!" The question had been burning on her mind. Were they what the books said were identical twins? They had to be!
"Yes." Willow replied, before deciding he should elaborate. "We're twins, so I can read Fi's mind."
"Can you? Really???"
"Yes. Right now, she's thinking about me."
Finnet decided to interject. "No I'm not!"
"Yes you are. Don't be silly." He argued, letting go of her arm a little.
Finnet frowned but stayed quiet. Autumn guessed he really couldn't read minds, but oh well, she'd humour him. "So can you only read her mind?"
"Yes. Twins can read eachother's minds. That's what dad said."
"Wow! You had a father? That's cool!"
Willow blinked. He didn't seem to know how cool that was... Well, his loss.
Autumn: omg ur not fatherless that's so cool
Willow: wtf

Physical training
It was said that exercise lifts away your sorrowful feelings. Autumn supposed that was true. She was too out of breath to even think about the dark future looming over all of them.
Most of the children here were occupying their break with the same activity as Autumn was - tiredly sitting against the wall, drinking from their water patches and watching with confusion the two younger twins who were still playing around the gymnasium. They were hanging by their legs off beams, racing each other and doing wall jumps.
How do they have so much energy? Autumn thought wearily, inching away from Ponchio due to how hot she was. However, it was sort of inspiring watching them - how could it not be? They were so cute, and were having so much fun. She'd go join them if she wasn't absolutely exhausted.
Maybe it was their youth. But then again, they were all young - And everybody but Willow and Finnet were exhausted. The twins were definitely not the youngest people here.
She sighed, leaning back against the wall. She felt Ponchio's gaze on her and looked over him, giving the older boy a weary smile.
"We'll have to try really hard to get their energy." Autumn commented.
"Yeah." Ponchio didn't seem that motivated.
"But we can do it!" She cheerfully gave him a pat on the shoulder, then linked her fingers and stretched her arms. "We can do anything if we work together."
Ponchio looked like she had just suggested the idea of ending the world. Autumn ignored his expression. "C'mon, the supervisor's calling us." She got to her feet, wiping her forehead and waiting for her friend.
On the shorter side, but I feel like these small moments are important to one's personality.

Newcomer P.1
He associated that day with the grey ceiling, and the glass of the wall next to him that peered into an empty room. That day when his eyes met with a blank stare, nothing registered behind those eyes. They didn't even seem to notice he was there until he spoke. It still haunted him, in a way.
He didn't know why the ceiling had been his focus that day. It wasn't a very significant part of such a significant area of time - but he remembered the books scattered around him as he lay on the floor. His head dull, his chest null. There was nothing to think about, nothing to do.
Reading is all I have to do around here.
Those thoughts crossed his blank mind, and his eyes began to close from the boredom. He always thought that falling asleep from boredom was just a myth - but it didn't seem so, as he was drifting off now.
All he did was sleep, eat, go to testing, and read. He wasn't an artist, so the art supplies weren't of use to him, and there was nobody to talk to. Not that he liked people, anyway. He had a hate for most things he saw, and this place didn't make it any better.
The door creaked, jolting him up from his dreary daydreaming, and he sat up hastily, not wanting to be seen vulnerable like this. His eyes lay on the sight of a girl around his own age, with a blank face. She stumbled into the room despite not being pushed in, steadied herself, and then just stared.
Her eyes stared in his direction, but the boy didn't think she was looking at him. She was looking at something far, far away - and she didn't seem at all aware of the tag on her shirt or the prison she was confined in. She didn't seem aware of anything.
Her amber eyes could've very well been grey for the amount of emotion and awareness in them, and the boy found unnerved by this girl's unresponsive look. Did she not even notice he was here? What was up with her? What an absolute freak.
Though, with this thought, he found himself standing up to face her, wave his hand in front of her face, and -
"Hey, freak. Aren't you going to say anything?"
He waited for a reply, and eventually, he got it - it took a while for her to slowly turn her head towards him with an uninterested stare.
"Hi."
Was that all? All she was going to say!? With an angry glare, he shoved her and stormed over to his bed. She didn't even flinch.
-- Around a day later
He took out a board game and shook the box, the parts rattling inside. Snakes and ladders. He hadn't played this in years.
"Come here, let's play a game."
"Okay."
The girl stopped blankly starting ahead to respond to him, then walked towards the boy with no hesitation. She still creeped him out, but she was the only one here, so...
"Do you know how to play?" He asked, setting out the pieces on the floor. He made sure to give himself the yellow piece, his favourite colour.
The girl didn't hesitate with her response. "Yes, I've played it with my brother before." Her words sounded scripted. The boy gritted his teeth. She was so weird.
"Good. I don't want to have to teach you." His voice came out as a snarl, though he didn't apologise. He didn't see the point, she didn't even care from the looks of it.
After a while of playing, the boy was bored once again. The girl only showed any sign of emotion once he succeeded in something, that emotion being faint happiness. Other times she was silent. He supposed she had no friends, who'd want to be friends with such a weirdo?
He eventually just got up and went back to his bed with a command, half hoping she'd refuse just so it'd get a bit more interesting. "Clear that up."
But she did so without a word of complaint.
One day i'll write a part two to this (not today) (this is also very old so it isn't one of my best)
