Beautiful Malta.mp4 from Mark Broderick on Vimeo.
Malta has earned a reputation among seasoned travelers as an affordable, welcoming destination. This small European island nation is located in the central Mediterranean, less than a hundred miles south of Sicily, Italy. It’s one of the warmest, sunniest places to be in Europe over the winter months.
Malta is made up of two main islands: the larger island of Malta and smaller Gozo. Each has its own unique charms. The larger island is more built-up and boasts a greater number of attractions, while Gozo offers a more relaxed, natural feel.
With a population of around half a million and a total land area of just 122 square miles, Malta should feel a lot more crowded than it does. Fortunately, finding your own quiet place to hike, enjoy the beach, or enjoy a cliff-top lunch above the Mediterranean isn’t hard at all, once you know where to look.

Tritons Fountain in Malta from Mark Broderick on Vimeo.
The Tritons’ Fountain is located just outside the City Gate of Valletta, Malta. It consists of three bronze Tritons holding up a large basin, balanced on a concentric base built out of concrete and clad in travertine slabs. The fountain is one of Malta's most important Modernist landmarks.
Triton, in Greek mythology, a merman, demigod of the sea; he was the son of the sea god, Poseidon, and his wife, Amphitrite. According to the Greek poet Hesiod, Triton dwelt with his parents in a golden palace in the depths of the sea.
Music: Camille Saint-Saëns - Danse Macabre Recorded by Kevin MacLeod

Why we Swim and why you should too from Mark Broderick on Vimeo.
Sea swimming has increased in popularity in Ireland over the last two years. There has been new appreciation for getting outdoors and being active, no doubt due to various covid lockdowns.
Sea swimming has been known to actively improve your health and wellbeing with calming immersion and exposure to sunshine and salt water.
Many people see the ocean as a way to relax and get away from the chaos of everyday life. However, the benefits of swimming in the ocean extend beyond stress-relieving qualities. It strengthens muscles, increases endurance, boosts skin health and can even improve your mood, not to mention social interaction.
A blast of cold water has its own health benefits, but it's important to know your limits. Swim with others, respect the power of the ocean, turn back if the water looks too rough. When you get of the water, it's important to change into your clothes quickly and get back into a warm environment as your body temperature can continue to drop and cause hypothermia.
Sea swimming is truly enjoyable pastime for both young and old and a wonderful opportunity to make new friends at your local spot.
With special thanks to Dermot Higgins, Diane Cauldwell and Ciarán Ó Raghallaigh for narration.
