How To Lower Your Voice - Tips From a Voice Actor
Okay, so let’s get one thing out of the way now: this is not overnight. You’ll have to discipline yourself to do this for weeks until you get your desired result. After some time it will just come naturally.
STEP 1:
Stand against a wall or door with your feet together and heels touching the wall. Stand up STRAIGHT. If your posture is impotent, then this ain’t happening.
(if you can’t stand, sit as straight as you can)
STEP 2:
RELAX. Don’t tense up your whole body, especially not your shoulders. This is so easy to do.
STEP 3:
Press the back of your neck against the wall (it’s fine if it doesn’t actually touch, we’re just working the muscles)
STEP 4:
Start speaking for 10 minutes. Find a magazine, book, article or even recite a monologue if you know any. You’ll notice your voice is already dropping two octaves.
STEP 5:
DRINK!! WATER!!!! If you feel your throat scatching or at all painful, STOP!! Take a break! And drink water, no ice.
STEP 6:
After ten minutes (or however long you can do) lay down flat. Keep your body straight. Relax your whole body. Try a visualisation where you relax from your feet up into your head. Doing this will give your throats a chance to cool down (it’s still a muscle!!)
**Bonus Tips**
HONEY - it coats your throats and protects it from damage. Use it before and/or after this exercise.
HOT TEA - I suggest ginger, but you can really pick whatever kind you want. As long it’s not coffee.
WATER!!!!
A CORK - if you’re wanting to go the extra mile, put a cork in your mouth and speak. This helps enunciation and can really help.
DON’T FORCE - if you force your voice to sound low it will sound very artificial
BE PATIENT - It’s gonna take time! Take it as a challenge.
I have tried humming while moving my head, singing to Panic! At The Disco and literally EVERY other thing to lower my voice and this is the only thing that has worked.
Just be safe, don’t hurt yourself!

Singers Reimagined As Greek Deities
In my humble opinion
Hozier as Orpheus, Son of Apollo
“I’d be the voice that urged Orpheus When her body was found I’d be the choiceless hope in grief That drove him underground I’d be the dreadful need in the devotee That made him turn around And I’d be the immediate forgiveness In Eurydice Imagine being loved by me!” —Hozier, “Talk”
Florence Welch as Hecate, Goddess of Witchcraft
“Holy water cannot help you down Hours and armies couldn’t keep me out I don’t want your money I don’t want your crowd See I have to burn Your kingdom down Holy water cannot help you now See I’ve had to burn your kingdom down And no rivers and no lakes can put the fire out I’m gonna raise the stakes, I’m gonna smoke you out” —Florence Welch, “Seven Devils”
Kesha as Iris, Goddess of the Rainbow
“I’ve found a rainbow, rainbow, baby Trust me, I know, life is scary But just put those colors on, girl Come and play along with me tonight” —Kesha, “Rainbow”
Andy Biersack as Thanatos, Personification of Death
“Down the long and winding road Through the bones of other ghosts Rising up now From the cold ground Buried hearts don’t make a sound But I can hear it calling out Like the wind howls Through the dark clouds” —Andy Black, “Introduction: Resurrection”
Brendon Urie as Dioynsus, God of Wine and Parties
“My touch is black and poisonous And nothing like my punch drunk kiss I know you need it Do you feel it Drink the water Drink the wine
Oh we gotta turn up the crazy Livin’ like a washed up celebrity Shooting fireworks like it’s the fourth of July Until we feel all right Until we feel all right
I’m like a scarf trick It’s all up the sleeve I taste like magic Waves that swallow quick and deep” —Panic! at the Disco, “Victorious”
Taylor Swift as Aphrodite, Goddess of Love and Beauty
“Romeo, take me somewhere we can be alone I’ll be waiting, all that’s left to do is run You’ll be the prince and I’ll be the princess It’s a love story, baby just say yes” —Taylor Swift, “Love Story”
Marina Diamandis as Demeter, Goddess of Fertility and the Harvest
“I’ve seen seasons come and go From winter sun to summer snow This ain’t my first time at the rodeo Nature ain’t a fruit machine She’s gotta keep her credits clean Good things come to those who wait But I ain’t in a patient phase” —Marina and the Diamonds, “Froot”
Lorde as Artemis, Goddess of the Moon and the Hunt
“You could try and take us But we’re the gladiators Everyone a rager But secretly they’re saviors Glory and gore go hand in hand That’s why we’re making headlines You could try and take us But victory’s contagious Delicate in every way but one (the swordplay) God knows we like archaic kinds of fun (the old way) Chance is the only game I play with, baby We let our battles choose us
And the cry goes out They lose their minds for us and how it plays out Now we’re in the ring and we’re coming for blood” —Lorde, “Glory and Gore”
Hey ya’ll I’m making a part 2! Any suggestions for celebrity/deity matches? (Yes, I will include Lana Del Rey in the next one. I have an idea for her ;) )

you don’t need to go to a prestigious university or an exclusive boarding school to get dark academia vibes. you can be a pretentious brooding scholar at your local public high school as well. leave books on renaissance paintings and ancient rituals open on library desks. write ominous notes in the margins of textbooks. quote byron on the bathroom stall door. wear an unmistakable scent of perfume, so when you enter a classroom, everyone knows that you’ve arrived. cut your hair in the sink of the science lab. slip roses into random lockers. surround yourself with a few number of close friends and form your own secret circle. gain a reputation. have whispers follow you down the hallways. I would, however, advise against murder.

romantism literature aesthetics
hamlet, william shakespeare: conspiratorial whisper and burning eyes; love passionate inspiration; the silence of the midnight castle; visions on the other side of the mirror and cold touches of loved ones; mystical forest rituals;
the portrait of dorian gray, oscar wilde: prayers and repentance that will never be heard; wounded hands and hearts; anxiety and anxiety towards oneself, bloody neckerchiefs and petals; gold ashtrays and cigarettes with cairo tobacco; uplifting chest under the corset;
the hero of our time, mikhail lermontov: soldiers uniform and silent great mountains; to be locked in someones beliefs; lie, because they do not believe you; love turned into death; silent confession in the midst of green meadows; show hope; love for yourself;
romeo and juliet, william shakespeare: torn petals of peonies and roses; foggy evenings on the cold grass in the garden; stone churches and eyes of priests; blood on the street pavement; cold hands and hot hearts;
evgeny onegin, alexander pushkin: silent and sad estates in places distant from cities; cold winters and white gardens strewn with snow; broken letters flooded with ink lying on the floor; bloody patterns on marble snow; revolvers with golden carvings; return home after a long journey;
faust, johann wolfgang goethe: gloomy daytime streets and filled prisons; grape juice running down his hands and scarlet lips; blond hair and dark soul; sweet lies and mysterious deception, in which you want to believe; repentance.

HAMLET: O God, I could be bounded in a nutshell and count myself a king of infinite space, were it not that I have bad dreams. GUILDENSTERN: Which dreams, indeed, are ambition, for the very substance of the ambitious is merely the shadow of a dream. HAMLET: A dream itself is but a shadow.
