March Comes In Like...
March comes in like a lion? I hope it goes out like a lamb. Iâm ready for Spring and buds on the trees, but Iâm getting ahead of myself....... as usual, there are so many events taking place in the city and around the borroughs. I want to share some of whatâs on the top of mind. Did any of you wonderful readers do anything that I recommended in February? Iâd love to hear about your experiences! Please share!Â

The Real Estate market continues to roll along. With the stock market taking a more then a 10% hit last week, the worst drop in a week since 2008. Real Estate is a much better investment. This is the time to buy! Last week I came back from our snowy Midwest family winter break, just in time to dive into High School school meetings.Â
One meeting was an information session about vaping. I have to admit, I knew very little about the topic. I asked my two teens what they knew, both said they knew very little about it... really?  So I went to educate myself and at the end of the meeting you could have scraped me off the ceiling. The grim facts: vaping is much harder to detect than smoking because there are few obvious signs. The stores that sell the vaping products play fast and loose with age requirements and this was the biggest shocker of all... Marlboro invested 13 Billion dollars in Juul. Who do you think they are marketing to?
If you have children or find this unacceptable, please call your representatives and voice your opinion, ask for immediate action here: https://www.house.gov/representatives/find-your-representative Read this New York Magazine article for even more info: https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2020/02/vaping-health-crisis.html
While Iâm in the parent trap, Iâm going to put a plug in for Frank Sinatra High School of the performing arts. Hairspray is their Spring performance and it starts on March 5th. The artists at Frank Sinatra are just amazing. I dare say they are Broadway bound. My daughter attends FS (she is not in the play) we bought ten tickets... and that is just for one night! The tickets are only $20 and you will get a $200 dollar performance, I promise you that. There are great restaurants around the area in Long Island City... definitely go. I love a restaurant across the street called Tacuba. Here is the link to get tickets info: https://franksinatraschoolofthearts.org/apps/events2/event.jsp?eREC_ID=2637678&d=2020-03-07&id=0
 March is Womenâs Month.Â
What does it mean? Are we there yet? It depends on your view. I always thought I was even when someone said I wasnât.  Did you know that 20% of single women buy real estate in New York city? Here is my story... My mother bought our 2 homes without my father and later my stepfather. The first purchase was in Israel. We were living in a very basic rental as immigrants. My mother worked in a factory. One day her boss said to her, âThere is beautiful apartment in my building, you should see it.â She went and she saw, she bought it for cash on the spot. I guess it was cheap as this was probably 1960 and she did not spend her times in Starbucks so she accrued the cash. Fast forward 45 years later and she is now married a second time. Iâll spare the details but her husband got sick and she needed the support of family, she was living in Minneapolis and the family was in St. Paul. I called a Real Estate Broker, we find a fabulous apartment and she buys it. Husband gets better, he canât believe she bought such a nice place and is super happy. Mom is 93 now, the apartment is sun-flooded and large and she gets us to come often because of the pool not to mention that we adore her. While some see her as a sweet Grandma who cooks and bakes and watches Jeopardy and CNN, I know her as the Powerhouse who always made a lot out nothing.
Check out events around Womenâs month. I personally believe that there should be integration of mutual respect and friendships amongst us all ... we can all get along and build a better world together.
How about Womenâs Graffiti & Art in The Bronxâs Poe Park? https://www.nycgovparks.org/events/2020/03/17/womens-history-month-exhibition-grafitti-and-street-artists

I always need some inspiration and education and the city generously provides. This month you can hear Neil deGrasse Tyson, and Jerry Seinfeld at the 92nd Street Y more: https://www.92y.org/?gclid=Cj0KCQiAkePyBRCEARIsAMy5ScsfntAmMyL89VwW6Ye8UgZ4wSrRcPBi_giPxHt510diws0ewAwUSB0aAuK8EALw_wcB
On everybodyâs mind the Corona Virus:
What can you do about it? Wash hands often, donât touch your face. Be extra careful to sneeze into a tissue and I personally am taking lots of vitamins and and brewing fresh ginger and turmeric teas. Itâs a good time to be in your home with books food family and friends. Stock up on food and household necessities. This too shall pass but its not pleasant. Be sure to reach out to the elderly and frail and see if you can do something for them. What I Love About New York
To start with, I'll be discussing everything about everything!
First up: What I love about New York. I have lived here since forever! That's right. Â I have seen a lot, done a lot. I am raising my family here. New York is my home and I love it much more than I hate it.
So what do I love about it?
For one, it is a city where there is something happening every day, every night, every minute.
Do you like food? I do! you can't go 20 steps without finding ten different restaurants; Italian, Chinese Thai Japanese, Spanish, French, American, Greek, Lebanese, Turkish, Caribbean.
Vegan (is that even a country?)
So, we have Restaurant Week! Take advantage and get to know some new restaurants:Â https://www.nycgo.com/restaurant-week/
Is there something you want to learn about? How about coding and weaving? It's happening in Brooklyn in February. I'm really tempted even though I know next to nothing about coding - it sounds very interesting. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/weaving-and-coding-workshop-tickets-80530116747
Of course, there is Chinese New Year, so colorful. Â Have you seen the decorated trees around town?

It's the year of the rat and I am scared of rats even though my son says they are more scared of me and my blood curdling screams. He claims I abuse rats and have given them heart attacks. So much for filial piety! Check out the festivities here:Â https://www.nycgo.com/articles/lunar-new-year-guide-nyc
Last Nightâs Super Bowl
What did you all think of the Super bowl? It was something right? I loved Shakira and J. Lo. How fabulous are they?! ...But just a tad too sexy. Am I jealous? Not a chance. Look at the bread I bought for the occasion from Breads on 16th between 5th and union Square. and the spicy Poppers were pretty good too. but we ate them so you canât see them.Â

Talk about football literacy !
Art in NYC
Let me count the venues but I want to share a secret:
May I present Arlene Needleman Robbins!
Arlene is a super talented painter. and water colorist. Her works are so real and have that âje ne sais quoi!â She is having a show at the Salmagundi club on 47 Fifth Avenue February third through the 21st. but get over there as soon as you can.
A note from Arlene:
âTwo of my watercolor animal portraits have been accepted to the Animal Attraction Exhibition at Salmagundi Club 47 Fifth Ave., NY, NY. Â One is included here. The Exhibition will be open to the public Feb. 3 thru Feb 21, 2020. Reception February 13, 6:30-9:00PM. Â Please join me to celebrate our special animals. Â For more details, visit my website arlenerobbins.com and on Instagram @arlenerobbins49. Accepting commissions for watercolor or graphite portraits and will work from your photos for lasting memories.â

Love is in the air!
Valentineâs Day is around the corner and I have a great recipe for Chocolate Brownie with rose water and cranberries or pomegranates. If you are interested, ask me and I will send the recipe:
My daughter's Principal at Frank Sinatra HS begs me to stop sending them because they are creating havoc with his diet but they always sell out at performances. What are you doing on Valentineâs Day? Get some ideas here:Â https://www.timeout.com/newyork/valentines-day
There is so much to do in NYC this February it is making my head spin.
I invite you to read our market report:Â
https://www.compass.com/research/static/assets/Manhattan_Quarterly_Market_Insights_Report_Q4_2019.pdfÂ
The market is getting busy. Spring is around the corner and these great prices are not going to be here forever.
I am happy to answer your questions. Keep them coming and enjoy February. Please take a look at this beautiful home on the 31st floor!Â
