verifying source credibilty: the CRAAP test
this is mostly a problem i see in CDD system-oriented discord servers, but i'm sure it exists on sysblr as well.
carrds are not credible sources. tumblr posts are not credible sources. did-research.org is not a medical website.
instead, for research and information related to systems specifically, it would be ideal to look at peer-reviewed journal articles.
but you can't stop there. you also have to consider the relevance of the article you're referencing, who the authors and publisher are, and whether or not the information even holds up to more recent studies. this is where the CRAAP test comes in.
C - Currency When was the information published or posted? Has the information been revised or updated? Does your topic require current information, or will older sources work as well? Are the links functional?
R - Relevance Does the information relate to your topic or answer your question? Who is the intended audience? Is the information at an appropriate level (i.e. not too elementary or advanced for your needs)? Have you looked at a variety of sources before determining this is one you will use? Would you be comfortable citing this source in your research paper?
A - Authority Who is the author/publisher/source/sponsor? What are the author's credentials or organizational affiliations? Is the author qualified to write on the topic? Is there contact information, such as a publisher or email address? Does the URL reveal anything about the author or source?
.ac.uk = Academic institutions in the UK .com = Commercial sites .edu = Educational institutions .gov = Government .nhs.uk = Health information services in the UK .org = Non-profit organizations .mil = Military .net = Network.
A - Accuracy Where does the information come from? Is the information supported by evidence? Has the information been reviewed or refereed? Can you verify any of the information in another source or from personal knowledge? Does the language or tone seem unbiased and free of emotion? Are there spelling, grammar or typographical errors?
P - Purpose What is the purpose of the information? Is it to inform, teach, sell, entertain or persuade? Do the authors/sponsors make their intentions or purpose clear? Is the information fact, opinion or propaganda? Does the point of view appear objective and impartial? Are there political, ideological, cultural, religious, institutional or personal biases?
keep in mind this test doesn't at all look at whether or not methods for conducting experiments or studies are effective and valid, but at some point i'd also like to make a post about verifying credibility for academic studies specifically.
next time someone asks for sources don't give them a carrd amen 🙏

I used to say stuff like “antizionism does not equal antisemitism” so I could be respectable or whatever, but no, you know what, it is antisemitism.
If you believe Israel doesn’t have the right to exist because of bad things Israel has done or is currently doing, and you don’t apply this logic to any other country, you are singling out Israel because it is the only Jewish state. You are antisemitic.
“But no, I don’t think Israel should be wiped off the map, I’m an antizionist because I don’t blindly support all the actions of the Israeli government.” That’s not what Zionism is. You are taking a word created by Jews to describe a Jewish thing and ignoring the definition that Jews say this word has, and you probably believe that doing this to any other minority is wrong, ergo, you are antisemitic.
The only thing I can sort of respect is if you are an antizionist by virtue of thinking all nation states should be destroyed. I think your beliefs are utterly ridiculous, but I appreciate the consistency of holding the Jewish state to the same standard you hold all states.

Move Away From RAMCOA
Note: This is not my post!!! Someone else asked me to post it on their behalf and they wish to stay anonymous
What is this? Here is a list of sources, citations, and explanations for each of them aimed at debunked claims surrounding the ISSTD and their foundation- more specifically their controversial SRA, RAMCOA, OEA, and other terms section.
SRA, later becoming the RA in RAMCOA, stands for Satanic Ritual Abuse. This terminology was created during the Satanic Panic, a period in the 1980s-90s where public officials, law enforcement, and otherwise regular individuals held a widespread belief and panic over the idea of Satanic Cults running amok in the United States. This panic was taken advantage of by various people as a way to spread their own agenda, and was later disproved as a conspiracy theory by the government, several times. (X)(X)
The ISSTD was founded in 1983 during the Satanic Panic to study DID, SRA, and the connection between the two of them. “In the 1980s, Braun became a leading proponent of the satanic ritual abuse theory, and appeared on TV promoting it. According to this theory, thousands of children were being subjected to organized acts of murder, torture, human sacrifice, cannibalism and sexual abuse throughout America, in elaborate ceremonies performed by Satan-worshippers.”(X) (X) Braun, whom at the time still possessed his license, went on to directly link the formation of all DID with the occurrence of SRA, he would then go on to attempt to have this added to the DSM as a diagnostic criteria, publishing articles and other research on it to oppose his colleges who did not buy in to the panic, going as far to accuse those who did not agree with him were in fact perpetrators/members themselves. (X) Each of Brauns claims have been debunked over the years including a police and government effort that investigated over 12,000 official documented claims of SRA. (X) Braun has been sued twice by former patients for his malpractice, and has been accused on multiple accounts of feeding his conspiratorial beliefs to them. His license was suspended twice before it was revoked and he was expelled from the Illinois and American Psychiatry Societies.(X) He continued to play a central role in the ISSTD until 2021.
Collin Ross, one of the lead researchers into RAMCOA, was found guilty of medical malpractice, convincing one of his patients that she was impregnated by aliens through a satanic cult, though his license was not revoked. He has also gone on record saying that he, and other people, can shoot energy from their eyes that can be captured. He follows in Braun’s footsteps, and continues to be an active member of RAMCOA research even today. (X)(X) Allison Miller, another ex lead researcher of the RAMCOA sig, is currently unlicensed, and to this day continues to claim that recent criminal investigations have given the results that satanic cults are a widespread global issue.  She, like Braun has linked satanic abuse as an active initiate of DID. One of her main controversies is that she claimed her clients delusions of alien abductions were actually memories “implanted by a satanic cult to make her seem crazy” One of Miller’s main supporters was Neil Brick, who claims he was programmed by the illuminati to be a serial killing spy, these claims were looked into by the FBI and disproven. (X)(X) Tara Tulley, another ISSTD member, had her license revoked for performing exorcisms and other demon revocations on patients with DID, believing that their DID was caused by satanic rituals. (X) Eileen Aveni, an ISSTD SRA specialist, was found guilty on multiple public health code violations, including neglecting her patients, with one documented case of allowing her patient to be sex trafficked, she was put on probation but ultimately returned to her work. (X) George Greaves, a past president of the ISSTD had his medical liscenses revoked for engaging in sexual acts with patients, specifically while they were under therapeutic hypnosis, as well as other ethical violations. (X)
Micheal Sulter, former ISSTD chairman in 2023, continued to parrot disproven conspiracy theories such as the McMartin Preschool tunnels, which was disproven decades ago. (conference documentation on multiple accounts) Sulter has also claimed that there is a psyop or similar group run by enemies and ex ISSTD board members. (No link unfortunately, the social media posts were deleted and the only one with them available is the Grey Faction) Even currently, the ISSTD has not moved away from conspiratorial concepts in their presentations and meetings, they continue to mention that occult holidays such as Halloween or Christmas inspire ritual abuse from Satanic Cults. (X)
The ISSTD has annual conferences, each being either recorded or documented, several of these being notably controversial. In 1988 they aimed to verify cannibalistic satanic cults who participate in human, specifically child, sacrifices, this was investigated and then debunked by the FBI. In 1989 they included talks of real life Manchurian Candidates, a discredited conspiracy theory based on the novel of the same name. All information available was scrutinized by many in the field, especially in the forensic legality of clinical hypnosis considering the heavy use of it by ISSTD practitioners. (X)(X) From 1990 to 1998 ISSTD conference guest panelists had been accused of being Satanists if they portrayed any skepticism towards the connection between DID and SRA; this is documented in several instances. (No link, An Interview with Frank Putnam, Part II." ISSTD News)(X)
The RAMCOA sig was forced to be rebranded in 2020 to the OEA sig due to “stricter rules for the provision of Continuing Education (CE) and Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits” meaning without the rebrand they would have lost the ability to certify their practitioners. This is because their sponsors said they would refuse to approve presentations discussing SRA mind control conspiracies. They have stated that they are trying to overturn this by finding a new sponsor or becoming self certified so that they could continue such presentations. (X. Yes, this has the Grey Factions name on it however it’s from The Satanic Temple simply discussing a letter that was released by the Grey Faction.) The reason they founded the RAMCOA sig in 2008 was to allegedly separate their SRA research and DID research, however the two still remained linked together as shown by Brauns continued connection.
Additions This document is not even going to touch on the antisemitism of the SRA and blood libel conspiracies that go into the term because there would be way too much to talk about.
Many people say things like “It's a good foundation tied to bad people!” which is more so the opposite. The ISSTD is structured and based off of malignant theories that alienated survivors and fictionalized their situations by embellishing it as part of their conspiratorial agenda. It originated from the twisted belief of a satanic cult underground, and that these cannibalistic sacrificers were giving/creating DID. They are the reason that the FMSF exists, it is due to the fact that so many of their practitioners were found guilty of taking advantage of patients to push their conspiracies. The main reason people claim that DID is purely iatrogenic is because the ISSTD used clinical hypnosis as well as other methods like the fear and vulnerability of victims to create crazy explanations and fake memories. The ISSTD is not a good foundation, there are some genuine and well meaning people there, but time and time again they continue to support SRA conspiracies and spread satanic panic. Many people, purposefully or not, continue to share Braun’s dog whistles: if you don’t remember your cult trauma, it’s because it’s hidden from you, if you don’t want to talk about it then it’s a program keeping you from talking, if you have a violent alter it’s because your cult leader introjected a demon in to you, don’t ever research RAMCOA on your own without a professional, because if you do then you might trigger suicide programming- This is satanic panic.
I think this quote puts it really nicely, “The ISSTD created the term for the idea of RAMCOA. They did not create it to describe your trauma. They created it to describe conspiracy theories.” It was not made for survivors, it was not even based on the experience of survivors, it was manufactured by people who do not fundamentally understand what organized abuse is, and it is solely based on SRA and MKultra conspiracies. Your abuse is real, your experience is real, but RAMCOA is not. When you identify and label yourself with this term, you are contributing to the stigmatization survivors face in the medical field; there is a reason the term RAMCOA is only recognized by the ISSTD, you are contributing to the conspiracy theories ISSTD members continue to spout. All of the ISSTD conspiracy theories have been disproven, and time after time yet they continue to link survivors and DID to them, when this happens people see survivors and DID as also fictitious, especially those who label themselves as RAMCOA. If they say A and B are connected, when A is proven wrong what are people going to think of B? (in this example A being SRA, and B being people having DID.)
No, this is not a conspiracy, I made sure to not include anything in relation to the Grey Faction because so many people on Tumblr say that the ‘real’ conspiracists are the Grey faction because they ‘made all of these claims up’ which really isn’t true and I wanted to show that no, these claims are not just something they made up- they are well documented, most of the documentation being internally done by the ISSTD themselves.
There are better terms to use now, and more fitting frameworks that are actually created to help people like us. We are not a commodity, we are not fictitious, and our disorders are not something to be taken advantage of as proof of conspiracy. No one should be preyed upon by this as many people have been.
Some other recognized terms include:
Organized abuse
Conditioning
Institutional abuse
Cult abuse/trauma/survivor
Trafficking
Religious/spiritual abuse
Psychological abuse
Emotional abuse
Physical abuse
Sexual abuse
Sadistic abuse
Conditioned abuse
A very small other note is that programming is an intense form of conditioning that takes advantage of dissociative barriers induced by trauma. It is not satanic mind control that turns you into a child soldier- you are not a villain, you are not a killer, you are not a demon or angry spirit, you were a kid who did what you needed to in order to survive. Conditioning is not mind control, one day you are going to be free of it : )
I, the writer of this, am a cult survivor and victim of heavy conditioning. You aren't alone, and I promise you that there are people out there who genuinely care and want to help us, the ISSTD and specifically their RAMCOA now OEA sig is just not one of them, to them our abuse is just a spectacle that can be used to support a defunct theory.
Some more sources can be found below as I can’t remember if I included them earlier:
https://openaccess.city.ac.uk/id/eprint/11871/

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/comment/personal-view/3574493/The-people-who-believe-that-Satanists-might-eat-your-baby.html
https://archive.org/details/EvidenceAgainstDr.ColinA.RossVol.1
The last small thing I’ll add in case someone brings it up is that yes, some of the ISSTDs research has been helpful, in the exact same way that some of the Grey Factions research as been helpful- it doesn’t erase the bad things they have done and it definitely doesn’t make up for them. If the ISSTD completely bans their use of conspiracies as well as cracks down on clinicians taking advantage of their patients I would be overjoyed, but the fact of the matter is that many who have abused their authority have not been punished for it, or received a slap on the wrist and continue to work there.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. You are loved, and cared about, and you deserve to heal.

are you dense?
The Disney show Hamster and Gretel is actually antisemitic now because its name is a reference to Hansel and Gretel which is a fairytale that has a witch who eats children which is kind of like the blood libel, and therefore we should boycott Hamster and Gretel for its antisemitism.
This is what anti-RAMCOA people sound like.
But worse. Because you're not targeting fans of a kids' show. You're targeting a special interest group for victims of organized and cult abuse. And you're trying to smear and discredit a psychiatric organization dedicated to treating those trauma survivors.
Shame on you.

i err on the side of anti self diagnosis because you guys are annoying as shit about it
it used to be "oh i'm all for self dx, in fact i will self dx" to "i'm not gonna self dx but i fw people who do" to "ok i can see in some instances how that can be reasonable" to "y'all do NOT have that shit"
like be so fr i saw a 14 YEAR OLD self dx with BPD that is literally just hormones
most of the people who are like "b-but self dx is good when you research really hard and diagnosis is soooo hard to get 🥺" are middle class white people who grew up in suburbia and complain because their parents won't get them to get diagnosed with a severe personality disorder as a teenager lol

my DID isn’t fun it’s just sad, scary, and violent :/
possibilities of why people here think DID is fun.
Some people might romanticise or misunderstand DID due to portrayals in media and social circles. Here are a few reasons why they might think it's "fun" even though the reality is very different.
Media Influence: Movies and TV often dramatise DID, making it seem exciting or mysterious rather than showing the real struggles that come with it.
Social Media Trends: Some online communities talk about DID in a way that focuses on the uniqueness of having multiple identities, rather than the distress and challenges.
Perceived Escape from Responsibility: Some might think having different identities means avoiding responsibility for actions, which is a harmful misconception.
Curiosity About Different Identities: The idea of switching personalities can seem fascinating, like playing different characters, without understanding the serious psychological impact.
In reality, DID is a complex and distressing disorder that results from trauma. It’s not something enjoyable.

No one talks about how shitty alters can be and it feels like system communities have such high expectations for pwDID when it comes to how happy and easy everything should be. Talking about the negatives of alters gets you treated like shit in a lot of spaces. Myself, my friends, and many others experience this in the communities. Even spaces that allow minors expect you to be so far in recovery or to have as little problems as possible. DID doesn’t just mask all the trauma or the issues that stem from it. Alters don’t get rid of that, they hold onto it. That’s the entire reason they exist. But having behaviours or experiences that are a result of your trauma gets you ostracized
Myself, my friends, and so many others experience this so much in these “communities” that pose as welcoming for pwDID. I have been banned from spaces because I don’t stop younger parts from using alcohol or drugs, because apparently addictions should just be on pause when a “child” is fronting. I’ve been banned for having a criminal record and being arrested as a child. I’ve watched how my friends get treated in system spaces when they talk about their parts destructive behaviours. Self harm, suicide attempts, triggers, sadness, anger, fear. I’ve seen how quick people are to judge or mock them for it. I’ve watched people talk shit about how they’re too “negative” or they’re “downers” for it. Expecting everyone with this disorder to be happy, positive, and okay 24/7 is so insane but normalized in this shit hole of a community. It’s like people forget that DID is a disorder. It’s not going to be pretty, fun, or happy for all- or most- people with it. It ruins relationships, it ruins jobs, it ruins your life. Many people with the disorder are violent, homicidal, or rude. It’s not demonizing the disorder to be that way or state that people can be that way, it’s just part of being someone who had an upbringing of fear, anger, sadness, and no way out. There’s so many common issues that come with it that aren’t even always caused by it alone like addictions, personality disorders, psychosis, and so much more shit.
Every disorder tag and community mentions the negatives of their disorders, some are nothing but venting. Why does DID, the most complex DD, have to be the one that no one bothers to talk about the negatives? Why does that one have to be the one where people hate those who are struggling? Why do the people who had no escape from the trauma they experience(d) have to be positive all the time? It’s ridiculous, the DID community isn’t made for people struggling with DID. Unless your trauma made you fun, you’re not welcome there.

i’m so sorry it’s kinda obvious when someone is blatantly faking. 100% fictives and theres like 200 members. none of them are just alters who like a character. having been far in recovery without any therapy or treatment whatsoever when they’ve only been aware of being a system for like 2 years. sharing every little detail and traumadumping in random discords full of 300 people.

kids introject traits of those around them, especially parents and caregivers -> most kids with DID have abusive parents and caregivers -> kids brain compartmentalizes traits of the abuser
Anyone with a BASIC understanding of introjection should understand this

Tumblr media
Hello Tumblr.
I am a 31-year-old research scientist, a transgender man, and I am diagnosed with ADHD, PTSD, and DID. I want to take you on a journey to understand how the rise of self-diagnosis and the rise of self-identified "plurality" have harmed and further stigmatized the lives of those of us who genuinely struggle with these conditions.
I was diagnosed with ADHD and PTSD at the age of 10, and later with DID at 23. In 2016, during a severe flashback episode that resulted in police intervention, I was placed under a 72-hour psychiatric hold, which ultimately extended to three weeks. Following my hospitalization, I was referred for a formal assessment of DID, which led to my diagnosis. From there, I began intensive therapy with a psychologist specializing in trauma and dissociation.
For several years, I attended therapy twice a week, gradually working toward integration. By the time COVID had hit, I had successfully integrated most of my dissociated parts, with only four or five left. In 2021, my psychologist relocated to another state but referred me to a trusted colleague.
Unfortunately, 2021 was also the peak of imitative DID trends, and despite my established diagnosis, my years of therapy, and the new psychologist having full access to my records, I was reassessed for both DID and ADHD.
When I asked why retesting was needed, I was told that it was a legal precaution due to the increasing number of new patients claiming to have DID, OSDD, ADHD, or a combination. This was highly unnecessary and cost me $1500. Thankfully, most clinics in my city offer sliding scales and payment plans for low-income patients.
In 2022, I was hospitalized again. The place was flooded with young, white, afab, self-identified "systems" who were either imitating DID or insisting that their experiences of "plurality" was an identity. For the record: People with legitimate DID do not refer to themselves as "systems," nor is that terminology a part of actual DID treatment.
During my time inpatient, I shared my progress with integration and discussed the work I still had left to do. One of these self-identified "systems" accused me of being an "ableist murderer."
Another time, someone with actual DID shared about having been trafficked as a child by her parents. A self-proclaimed "RAMCOA system" was excited and claimed that they, too, had been trafficked because their parents sent them to a cult mental health facility in Utah. This was absolutely infuriating, and not just because this claim is inflated at best, but because I was also placed in an unregulated mental health facility. And yes, even though that experience may be potentially traumatic, it is not equivalent to human trafficking at all.
She calmly explained that she was unfamiliar with the term "RAMCOA" (which is primarily used among special interest groups and not really in clinical practice). She also made clear that while this "systems" experience may have been traumatic, equating it to trafficking was not only inaccurate but deeply disrespectful to someone like her.
The self-identified "system" accused the person with real DID of "gatekeeping trauma" and claimed that their DID had developed from their experiences at age 14 (which is impossible because DID only develops from early and severe childhood trauma).
The person with actual DID called them out for misrepresenting trauma for attention and rightfully accused them of faking their condition.
Some other similar incidents:
• An "endogenic system" fake claimed those with actual DID, insisting that plurality is something you are born with and not a dissociative coping mechanism.
• A self-proclaimed "multi-origin system" asked me, a trans man, for advice on how to lie about gender dysphoria to trick their doctors into prescribing HRT for one of their "alters." When I refused, I was labeled a "transphobic ableist contributing to systemic oppression"... even though I'm part of said marginalized group.
• Someone went inpatient voluntarily because their therapist refused to diagnose them with DID or explore their "system."
• Someone accused me of transphobia for refusing to use their ADHD/ADHDer pronouns, despite the fact that they had self-diagnosed both ADHD and DID.
Every interaction with these self-proclaimed "systems" ended with accusations of oppression. Anyone with critical thinking skills can see how absurd this is.
But the impact of this trend didn't just stop here. When my endocrinologist was unavailable, I had to see a different doctor for my routine HRT follow-up. For the first time since childhood, my identity as a transgender man was questioned, all because my DID diagnosis was on my medical chart. The doctor said that they had recently seen an influx of young college students claiming DID but had only been experiencing minor dysphoria for a week before seeking out hormones.
But the worst of all came from my former best friend. She became fixated on ADHD and repeatedly tried to manipulate diagnostic tests, and even asked me how to answer questions to receive a formal diagnosis. When 7 different evaluations showed she did not have ADHD, she attempted to steal my Adderall. She still claimed ADHD, and began claiming everything was ableism. Once she grew tired of ADHD, she moved on to claiming various chronic illnesses like POTS, hEDS, and MCAS. She called herself a disability warrior and anyone, including medical professionals, that asked for proof were ableist.
After that phase ended, she declared herself nonbinary but admitted she neither experienced dysphoria nor wished to transition. Yet, she insisted she was part of the trans community and replaced all of her claims of ableism with transphobia. When identifying as non-binary no longer satisfied her, she began identifying as a trans woman despite being afab.
Her next phase was "identifying" as "plural" claiming she was "just like me." One of her "headmates" even messaged me to talk about our shared experiences with "systemhood." Now, everything that she proclaimed was ableism or transphobia suddenly became pluralphobia.
Each time she reinvented herself, she made it seem like everything unfair that we all experience in life was due to ableism. No! Wait! it was transphobia. No! Wait! it was actually pluralphobia! She uses marginalized identities like having a disability, being trans, or having DID as a social currency rather than the real experiences of systemic oppression that they are and that she does not experience.
This is why I say that "endogenic systems" and "plural communities" are oppressive. Because they are. They trivialize real disabilities and identities, turning them into fun and quirky trends rather than struggles with real-world consequences that are sometimes fatal.
All I see are privileged leftists treating marginalization as a subculture rather than a lived experience shaped by systemic oppression. What's ironic is that many of these people have become extremely ableist and transphobic in the name of "disability rights" and "trans rights."
As a trans man with disabilities, my life was far easier when I was invisible. Visibility could have been a powerful force for much needed social change if it hadn’t been co-opted and distorted by those who have no understanding of what it means to truly live with these conditions.
For those too young to remember, your actions are parallel to Rachel Dolezal, a white woman who falsely claimed to be Black for social and academic gain. The same dynamic is playing out here, and it places actual marginalized groups at risk.
In clinical circles, self-identified plurality is not recognized as a legitimate phenomenon. It is largely viewed as a mix of social contagion, identity confusion, peer pressure, and attention-seeking behaviors. It is a subculture. A phase. Nothing more. Nothing less. But it is one that actively harms those of us who struggle every day with the realities of DID. So please. Stop with the ableism. Self identifying as a novel group that "totally isn't an imitation of DID" and proclaims to be oppressed does not erase what privilege you carry. It just shows how misguided you are and what little care you have for people with disabilities.
This is ableism rebranded as a marginalized identity. This is akin to when Dolezal scapegoated the trans community by trying to claim she was trans racial (yes, I am aware this term has a separate meaning). She tried to rebrand her racism as a marginalized trans identity, just like plurals are trying to rebrand their ableism as a marginalized identity. It's harmful. It's wrong.

when people talk about intentional plurality i beg them to look into IFS. I saw a post recently about someone praising plurality as an intentional coping mechanism rather than a trauma response through dissociation, and how it can be helpful to imagine different “alters” for different situations to make life a little easier.
yes, this is a coping strategy— internal family systems. this is NOT plurality.
i will always come back to this: if you have to pretend to be someone else, that’s not plurality. recognized plurality ONLY stems from intense, repeated trauma and some form of dissociation/derealization that happens unconsciously as a result.
DID ≠ a coping mechanism
DID = a trauma response!!!
