Anyway, thinking about kdrama masterpieces this weekend, and obviously imo Coffee Prince is the ult. Like, is it a perfect drama? No. It probably wouldnât withstand drama audience standards today. But the synergy of that production is some once-in-a-lifetime stuff.
Absolutely no one involved in that show has ever made anything of that level again. Like, maybe Goblin? But Coffee Prince has an authenticity, genuineness, ingenuity, freshness that doesnât show up in what is ultimately an overproduced epic fantasy (that I do like). Maybe My Ahjusshi?? I havenât watched.
Some of it has to do with the way drama production changed in the year or two following Coffee Prince, and the way set design etc became better funded and more streamlined and shinier. But aside from aesthetic differences, tone and sensuality and character just reached an apex in the show.
When has an actress ever been so willing to embrace imperfection and âunattractiveness.â Go Eun Chan is so visually boyish for the entire show aside from like 1.5 scenes!! She is awkward and gangly and messy in a way that shows like to pretend their heroines are, but they never really are! Yoon Eun Hye hasnât even ever gone their again, let alone anyone else. But the thing is, Eun Chan doesnât seem like a kdrama character, she seems like a real person. She is well-written, sure, and in a realistic (ish) story, but sheâs also just actually embodied.
And despite the fact that the main female character is not a Smooth Beautiful instagram model (or whatever) the show is sexier and more sexually charged than most of the more contemporary shows that are way more raunchy than 2007 MBC could have stomached. The way they just casually wake up together and Eun Chan is like⊠CLEARLY naked? There is no fancy music, no soft lighting, no sunshine washing out the scene making it feel artificial. There are two people who are together in that bed barely clothed and you know exactly why. The way Eun Chan casually rests her feet on his in the next scene as they have breakfast??? Itâs not sexual at all, itâs just comfortable and sweet, but itâs also very sexual!!
Not only do shows simply Not do this, they canât! They donât know how to wrap you in a blanket and say hey, step into these peopleâs little lives. Their problems feel so big here and everything is so scary, but also their love feels so big and so overwhelming. You can feel the anxiety and the care and you want to shake everyone shoulders for their stupid cliche drama hijinks but at the same time youâve met people like this and you feel like these are real characters breathing in front of you so you just let them go on their merry way and enjoy the story as they go. Youâre safe in this narrative construct with this cast of believable strangers.

1. are these people from an alternate universe? bc i still see good omens fans engaging in fandom and sometimes even defending gaiman
2. yes, gaiman is less vocal online, but that doesnât mean he isnât doing harm. heâs currently suing his victims, with the sole purpose of ruining their lives. i hate this mindset that Posting is the most impactful thing anyone can do, positive or negative. he isnât shutting up bc he is ashamed or a good person, he is shutting up bc he isnât getting constantly validated and praised. and he is continuing to retraumatize his victims.
#I know at least 2 adults irl who don't know anything about rowling and still like HP#they don't know gaiman tho#I see good omens fan stuff online all the time

dynamics i've been wanting to gif: mabel & honoria - the buccaneers I know you and I won't get any of this. We won't get any of their world. Not really. Not in a way we deserve, but perhaps if we could be brave, we can make our own world. And maybe... maybe it'll be better.

it's so fucking frustrating to be in college and know everyone uses chatgpt and to be tempted by it constantly while also knowing intellectually that it doesn't work and it's a bad idea. like, i hang out in the library a lot, and i see people using chatgpt on assignments almost every day. and i know it isn't a good way to learn, because it's not really "artificial intelligence" so much as it is an auto text generator. and it gives you wrong information or badly worded sentences all the time. but every week i stare down assignments i don't want to do and i think man. if only i could type this prompt into a text generator and have it done in 10 minutes flat. and i know it wouldn't work. it wouldn't synthesize information from the text the way professors want, it wouldn't know how to answer questions, it just spits out vaguely related words for a couple paragraphs. but knowing my classmates get their work done in 10 minutes flat with it while i fight every ounce of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in my body is infuriating.
#I'm not even tempted by it tbh because I know that I'd have to double check it myself anyway for any bs#feels more like cleaning up after incompetent coworker/ classmate and I already feel exhausted#doing it myself I can check the sources as I write#t

âI am aware of how men objectify and sexualize women and how this hurts them/us, and I want to avoid reinforcing or reproducing this misogyny even unintentionally when expressing my desireâ: GOOD
âTo actively desire or want to touch/stare/enjoy someoneâs body is Something That Men Do and is a Male Action marked by sin even if itâs with my partner(s) who is both comfortable with and actively enjoys being ogled, which is why I canât do it or Iâm problematicâ: TRY AGAIN

The thing about this couple is that the whole time I felt like he was falling in love hard and fast and she was growing fond âșïž of him. Like he was multiple steps ahead of her in his feelings and she didn't manage to catch up to him by the time the show ended.
I actually liked her and how reserved she was but I just didn't buy that she was in love yet you know. Maybe with 16 episodes they'd pull it off
#acting was very good imo it's not about chemistry per se#/#Tastefully yours#///#/////#Kdrama#Spoilers

does everyone have a teacher that they still have beef with/ hold a grudge against today??
#all of my main teachers at age 6-12 absolutely hated kids#they could hide it from adults but it was obvious to me#part of the reason why I struggled at school at this age is knowing that they hated my ass just for breathing let alone asking questions et
