1. Choose a smoke alarm that is a label of a recognized testing laboratory.
2. Inside each bedroom, install smoke alarms at every level of the house including the outside of every sleeping area and basement.
3. Establish alarms at levels without bedrooms, in living rooms (or den or family rooms) or from ladder to upper level, or both places.
4. The smoke alarm installed in the basement should be installed on the roof below the stairs leading to the next level.
5. To reduce false alarms during cooking, at least 10 feet (3 meter) smoke alarm should be installed from a cooking device.
6. The loud smoke alarm on the walls or ceiling (remember, smoke raises). Mounting the wall, the alarm should not be installed more than 12 inches (on top of the alarm) from the ceiling.

8. Do not install smoke alarms near windows, doors or ducts, where drafts can interfere in their operation.
9. Never place a smoke alarm Paint, sticker or other decoration can keep the alarm from working.
10. For best protection, add all the smoke alarms together. When a smoke alarm sounds, they all sound.
11. Interconnection can be done using hard-wiring or wireless technology.
12. When the interactive smoke alarm is installed, then it is important that all the alarms are from the same manufacturer. If the alarm is not compatible, they can not sound.
13. There are two types of smoke alarms - ionization and photoelectric. Ionization smoke alarms are usually more sensitive to vivid fires, and a photoelectric smoke alarm is usually more responsible for combating the fire. For best protection, both types of alarms or combination ionization-photoelectric alarms, also known as double sensor smoke alarms, are recommended.
14. Keep manufacturer’s instructions for reference.
