PETRA COLLINS
Collins is a young Canadian editorial and fashion photographer. The style of her editorials is so stunningly and beautiful. She creates an entire scene out of the frame and it barely even looks like a set. Not only that, but her fashion photography and personal work is something that deserves to be applauded as well. I just cant get over how tasteful everything thing is and the narrative it provides. She uses various qualities of light and emphasis to produce very strong images.

CLAIRE MALLETT
Mallett has to be one of the most interesting and relatable artists that I’ve found. She is deeply fascinated by the quality of light, followed by shadows. She has almost perfected the “decisive moment” as well. Even though I applaud her on her skill and technique, I deeply admire her for her artistic process and perspective. She pays so much to the person’s spirit and beauty within, and then find a way to document that since beauty translates from the inside out.
There were additional photos I wanted to add from her nudes series, but they unfortunately they violate the guidelines so I was unable to post them.

MARIO TESTINO Testino is one of the most influential contemporary fashion and portrait photographers today. He is widely known for his celebrity portraiture as well as his commission work. Out of the two, I really enjoy his portrait photography because it shows a more raw and authentic side of celebrities and glamour that isn’t really seen in todays society, which is really refreshing.

ROBIN HARPER
Robin Harper is a fashion photographer who mainly shoots magazine covers and celebrities. This is one of her most recent photos that I absolutely love. It truly does give off the vintage timely aesthetic that is associated with photos like this. As weird as the photo is its extremely well done, especially for the fact of trying to achieve a certain look.

ROMAIN DUQUESNE
The quality of these photos really make me wonder what type of camera and lens he is using. Duquesne’s simplicity and naturalistic qualities of his commercial photography is absolutely astounding. These photos have an intense sense of realism to them and are absolutely gorgeous despite their minimalism.

BRAYDEN OLSON
Even though Olson is still an advertising photographer, there isn’t much of a correlation between him and the other two photographers. He has more of a styled approach for his images to sell some sort of product or business, which is what makes him stand out. Everything seems so amateur-like and vintage which comes across very well to younger audiences. Not only that, but he can show a variety of images to show different skills and understandings of design.

STEPHANIE DINKEL
Dinkel is another advertising photographer, but she primarily focuses on product photography. I find this style of photography extremely interesting due to the fact that everything has to be so thought out and executed perfectly in order to not only get a message across, but to sell it as well. The creativity in this type of photography is truly endless and give the artists an endless amount of freedom.

FABRIZIO CESTARI
Cestari is an advertising photographer that’s main focus is portraiture. His images are so strong and definitely suit the advertising industry. They not own portray some sort of narrative, they also sell one. There is a lot of editing that comes into play with images like these, but photos this build from the foundation up.

DAVID HOCKNEY
Hockney is a multi-trade artist. But, one of his skill sets is his photo collages. He fragments the images and creates a collage of them. I really enjoy this play on the composition and a frame of the image and creating your own perspective of it.

TROY COLBY
In “The Fragility of Fatherhood”, Colby narrates the struggle he has with raising his son. These photos touch on how he is attempting to connect to his son, in addition to taking care of him and himself. This is quite the emotional series, which is evident through the drama of the photos. I love the quality of the images and their variety and really do tell a a beautiful story of struggle.

STEPHANIE TAIBER
Taiber’s minimal and contemporary approach to her photography is what got my attention. The naturalness of the images allows the viewer to truly resonate with the image and form some sort of connection to it. She explores the internal and external constructs of female identity in such a beautiful and graceful manner.

PAULINE GOLA
By being deeply influenced by German Expressionism, Gola documents how the mind, body, and soul respond and adapt to trauma through the language of the human figure and being underwater in “In the Deep”. These photos have such an intense drama to them that is so impactful. The lighting of the images is so stunning and really puts the frame into perspective. The struggle and journey of moving past these dark moments of life really resonates within the viewer.

NINA RÖDER
Röder is a contemporary photographer that became one of my top favorites through this research. Her use of color and the environment is something that I find absolutely beautiful and captivating. She likes to the the story of the structures within her frame, and the theatre aspect behind it. All of her work has a distinct personal connection to her, but creates an entirely different one within the viewer. There is so much drama that is displayed in the photos and it just keeps me looking at them even more.

ZELKO NEDIC
In the first three images titled ”Golden Scars”, Nedic was deeply influenced by Kintsukuroi, a Japanese artistic method for repairing broken pottery through silver and gold. By repairing the pottery with these metals, they believed what was broken became more beautiful by being repaired. By discovering this, Nedic decided to create his own twist to it with his photography and find beauty within the destruction. He would adhere gold glitter to aluminum plates after photographing on his large format camera.

FLORIANE DE LASSÉE
“Présences” is a play on the perspective of the human body within our minds. De Lassée’s intent with this series was to allow the models to either emerge of confined themselves through this transparent surface. Their body language was a pivotal aspect of these photos, since its the only thing you can see. When having these photos on display, they’re printed transparently and put in front of a light box. This leaves it up to the viewer as to whether or not the the person in the image is being trapped or breaking through the surface.

LAURIE TÜMER
Tümer finds a muse through scientific elements and the embodiment of Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring. She wanted to capture the essence of pesticides in our midst. These images create this eerily dark and beautiful imagery by the quality of light and the colors.

JULIE BLACKMON
Blackmon’s photography is absolutely astounding. She creates these images that resemble stills from a movie in order to document her family life and growing up in that environment. These photos are so thought out and planned and executed to a tee. They truly create a personal narrative that can create a connection within the viewer.
