Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Ming-Na Wen Discusses if Melinda May Could Return to the MCU (superherohype.com)
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Ming-Na Wen Discusses if Melinda May Could Return to the MCU
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. star Ming-Na Wen says Disney and Marvel Studios have yet to ask her to reprise Agent Melinda May in Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“No, they have not . . . it’s weird, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. sort of became a separate entity for whatever reason because it was on the network as opposed to streaming,” Wen said to Katee Sackhoff on The Sackhoff Show. “I think there’s some — and this is where my obliviousness also helps because I don’t understand it, so you’re asking the wrong person, I just know that there’s some sort of division.”
Produced by Jeph Loeb‘s Marvel Television, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. debuted on ABC in 2013. The series followed Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) after he was mysteriously resurrected after his death at the hands of Loki in 2012’s The Avengers. Leading a team of elite S.H.I.E.L.D. agents including Agent May, Coulson and the team operated within the shadows of the MCU by handling strange cases and facing otherworldly threats. Despite lasting seven seasons on the air, Wen feels that Marvel Studios has overlooked S.H.I.E.L.D.’s success as it played a role in bringing small-screen MCU output to Disney+.
“We were the first, so you think we should get some accolade for helping launch Marvel in what the TV [department] that it is now,” Wen said.
While it is unknown if Marvel will ever call Wen to play Agent May in the MCU again, her co-star Gregg teased a potential Agent Coulson return because of the direction of the Multiverse Saga. “[Coulson isn’t dead] in every timeline,” Gregg said. “Look, you are playing in a Multiverse scenario in various timelines without you being like, ‘I don’t know, there’s many Multiverses here’ . . . People are very upset about whether things are canon [or not], and I love that Kevin [Feige] is like ‘The Oz.’”
Will Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. make a comeback?
Recently, Marvel executive Brad Winderbaum teased a possible S.H.I.E.L.D. revival following the success of X-Men ’97 on Disney+ and the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again. “[Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.] is probably the next show that [we’re] going to kind of revisit and revive . . . a really strong . . . and one of my favorite pockets of our universe and our fandom,” Winderbaum said to Agents of Fandom on YouTube. “And . . . you never know is the answer!”

How Can the 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' Cast Join the MCU?
Tumblr media
BY GREGORY MYSOGLAND / COLLIDER
The series finale of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. presents a way to rectify continuity discrepancies with the MCU films and allows for the characters to be used in future Marvel projects.
Chloe Bennet's character, Quake, could potentially join S.W.O.R.D. and appear in cosmic-focused Marvel projects like Thor, Captain Marvel, or Guardians of the Galaxy.
Phil Coulson and other S.H.I.E.L.D. agents could make appearances in supporting roles in future Earth-based projects, such as Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts, or Armor Wars.
Before the blockbuster Disney+ series' or even Netflix’s Defenders saga, the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first television series was Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. One of the franchise’s few forays into traditional broadcast TV, the series followed a team of agents from the titular organization, which had been featured throughout the MCU’s Phase 1 films, as they investigated and protected the world from super-powered entities and beings. At the beginning of its seven season run, S.H.I.E.L.D.’s narrative was closely connected to the MCU films. Several actors from the films reprised their roles in addition to series lead Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg), who had first appeared in the movies, and episodes that aired close to theatrical releases often featured connections to the films’ plots.
But none of the later films made much effort to reciprocate and reference S.H.I.E.L.D., and as the years went by the series began to focus more on developing its own detailed mythology, leading some viewers to believe that its continuity and that of the films could no longer be considered the same. The series finale featured a plot twist that could potentially be used to rectify these discrepancies and concluded most of the characters’ stories in ways that made it possible for them to be used in later Marvel projects. Between this and the return of several other Marvel TV characters like Charlie Cox’s Daredevil, Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin, and even Anson Mount’s Black Bolt, many fans are hoping to see some of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s heroes again, and there are several upcoming projects in which appearances from one or more of them would make sense.
It's worth noting that the nature of the Multiverse Saga creates almost unlimited potential for stories involving S.H.I.E.L.D. characters. Any of the actors from the series could be brought back to play variants of their characters from different timelines or universes, much as Patrick Stewart and the other actors who made up the Illuminati in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness did. This would allow future projects to feature the S.H.I.E.L.D. cast and characters, which have accrued their own passionate fans, without having to take into account the complicated backstories and histories they have from the series. That said, the finale did offer a way to keep the exact versions of the characters that viewers are familiar with canon to the MCU’s main universe.

#SaveAgentsOfSHIELD Trends On Twitter As Fans Demand Marvel Studios
Tumblr media
It's now been more than a year since Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Finished up its seven season run on ABC, but fans of the Marvel Television series remain optimistic that characters and actors from the show will be brought into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The likelihood of this happening is hard to say, especially with both the Darkhold and Mockingbird seemingly rebooted on Disney+ last year.
#SaveAgentsOfSHIELD was trending on Twitter yesterday as eager fans look to get Marvel Studios' attention.
There has been rumours that some characters from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. May possibly appearing in Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania
