Favourite ship dynamic: no one truly knows what exactly is going on between the two characters, including the characters themselves. But whatever it is, it's written in the fabric of the universe.

I forget that most people ship things because they want characters to be in a happy relationship and not because they want them to have weird sex things with atrocious psychological consequences

there's this specific kind of "bad"/unsympathetic victim narrative that i'm obsessed with when it's executed well, where someone's trauma response is to become increasingly destructive and selfish, at first in the hope that there will be consequences - that someone will follow the broken, bloody trail they're leaving behind them and try to stop them - because that will mean that they've been seen. that someone has finally noticed them, acknowledged their pain, and done something about it. but then, when those consequences never arrive, or are too easily brushed aside, they realise that they're enjoying being in control (or the illusion of control) for once far too much to stop, and start to buy into this delusion they've begun to construct for themselves, where what they're doing is Justified, Actually, because of what they've endured to reach this point. they've long since crossed sunk cost fallacy event horizon. to look back now would be unbearable. which is, of course, when the consequences they cannot so easily ignore arrive, and they're forced to reckon with the fact that they've mistaken the grave they've been digging for a great and gleaming tower, the crumbling walls of which are now starting to collapse inwards on them. it's such an inevitable but compelling tragic route to go down.

Soulmates as a horror concept.
You WILL love this person. It doesn't matter who you loved before; any feelings you had, any promises you made, they will become inconsequential as soon as you lock eyes with the stranger Fate has picked for you.
There's no way to stop it.
There's no way to say "no."
You will meet someone and with a single glance, both of you will become someone new, someone who's now bound to this stranger whether you like it or not, want it or not.
Trapped in a dance together until the day you die.

A whumper who is under someone else's thumb. A whumper who is also a whumpee.
Whumpee thinks that they know the person who has been abusing them by now. In their mind, they're a perfect monster, unflinching, unrelenting, and untouchable. Then, one day, as whumper is giving them their usual "treatment", someone new steps into the cell. They speak softly to whumper, and whumpee watches as they shy away, answering questions in low, trembling tones, and whumpee thinks they might be shaking. All at once, they realize that there's a larger scope they've been clueless to.

So like... a living weapon on trial. The weapon is no where near healed not at all, hasn't done anything for their self since they were rescued. And weapon facing trial for the acts they committed. The most crucial piece of evidence of why weapon shouldn't be punished are the tapes of their training. When the tapes are being shown, weapon shocks everyone and begins crying.
OR
weapon has barely asked for anything, only things they really need. So when they are on trial, they ask to not be in the room when the tapes are played. When weapon comes back in, their stomach curls at the pitying faces surrounding them. Some people are even crying.

see my thing is that when a character is revealed to have conflicting principles and actions and everyone’s like oh they are such a HYPOCRITE that’s BAD i’m inclined to think it makes them a better and funnier character. on account of my taste

Daily excerpt from today's writing, chapter 101 of Underline the Black:
It took a good ten minutes, indicative of just how much sleep Efnisien needed. But eventually he roused with a heartbreaking, sore sound. Gary could hear how husky his voice was even now. ‘It’s all right, you’re okay,’ Gary said. ‘Everything’s over, and I have some painkillers for you. How are you feeling?’ ‘Sore,’ Efnisien said, voice strained. He didn’t tense, but maybe he wasn’t able to. Gary expected Efnisien to reject him, to demand time alone. He expected to be pushed away or yelled at. What he didn’t expect was Efnisien turning into him, legs curling up, pressing his face into Gary’s palm and making a small, sweet little noise, cute after everything they’d been through. His breathing stuttered into Gary’s palm, and then he reached out and pressed chilled hands to Gary’s sides. ‘Now,’ Efnisien said weakly, voice cracking. ‘I’m an omega now.’ Oh, Gary thought, with some alarm. They hadn’t even talked about what that meant yet, or how he was supposed to act. But what would an omega need more than an alpha at a time like this? An alpha would re-establish independence and control, and Efnisien had turned into him. Gary nodded to himself, and let go of the water bottle to stroke Efnisien’s spine, lean in close.

part of what makes tragedies tragic is the story being preventable from the outside but unpreventable from the inside

something genuinely insane about going somewhere and getting to feel “i had some of the worst years of my life here” and “i was loved here, once” simultaneously.

hopeless time loop. the way out isn’t to save everyone. the way out isn’t to save even one person. the way out isn’t to change anything. the way out is accepting how it happened the first time is how it always will be. that’s how you acted, that’s how they acted, that’s how you would have acted every time if you weren’t given the curse of hindsight. the way out is accepting you can’t fix the past; you can only forgive yourself for it.
