A Bit About Myself
It will become clear from the portfolio that the aesthetics of music cover art and comics have influenced me. I go to violin lessons, taught myself guitar and play with friends. Until recently, I performed with dance company Company Chameleon. This allowed me to perform in pieces like Illumination at Manchester's Central Reference Library and the Lowry Centre, a medley of work for Manchester Day parade, and a bespoke piece at Manchester Arena for the World Taekwondo Championship. I opened the show on the Lowry鈥檚 main stage. Dance influences my interest in dynamic human forms, and transformation. My interest in architecture and art, for instance Florentine Renaissance work, also influenced me.
Why the Art Foundation Course?
The Art Foundation Course will allow me to expand my portfolio further, develop my skills, and to explore a wider range of materials, media, techniques and ideas beyond the scope of my work for GCSE and A-level Art. I am attracted to the breadth of approaches the course supports, and hope that this will not only develop me as an artist but also clarify how I should then progress on the basis of the course. It will help me to crystalise my interests and prepare me perhaps to study architecture at University or move into design-led fields like graphic design.

Portfolio: Sketches and Designs
6-8. Inspired by Michelangelo's sketches, Gustave Dor茅's illustrations (see 10. below) and the writings of H .P. Lovecraft and Steven King, I used a variety of different nib-sized fine liners, line makers (i.e. liquid pencil lead) and white posca pens.
9. Inspired by heavy metal posters and album covers I combined "pagan" images, Norse runes and an early medieval Ulfberht sword.

Portfolio: Concept Designs
11-14. Inspired by the artist Brian Schroeder I produced these on Adobe Fresco and then refined them in Photoshop. 15. Inspired by H.R. Giger, and Steve Vai's guitar, I used Photoshop to apply designs to a scanned photograph of the guitar.

Portfolio: Graphic Design
16-20. Digital studies created in the style of 1980s and 1990s graphic punk design, also inspired by comic books: I used Photoshop and then brushes from True Grit Texture Supplies to give a more refined look.
