biography.

- the dombrova family had a great deal of wealth acquired from great investments and nepotism at it’s finest. the dombrova family always valued their children as they were good investments to carry forth the dombrova name. however, the dombrova patriarch believed the fortune would best in the hands of boys and he lobbied for a son for quite sometime. so, when maya was born as their eldest it was a pretty big disappointment. before maya could speak her aunt and uncle had taken her into custody where she could attend boarding school across in the pond in london. 

- only seeing her birth parents on holidays or long weekends, maya found her independence fairly quickly. not only that her aunt and uncle were a lot more laissez faire in comparison to her parents. she learned a great deal of culture from them and their three adopted children. in truth, she loved her aunt and uncle far more than she loved her birth parents. often times she felt like she needed to flip a switch when greeting her parents for the holiday season; presenting herself as a posh british, golden child. 

- it wasn’t hard for maya to do as such. she was raised as a polymath so it was in her nature to be good at anything she set her mind to. perfectionism was the ideal but at times she wondered if it was because she wanted it to be that way or was she desperate to earn validation from her parents. her younger siblings didn’t share the same fate as her, as they were boys and remained in boston. it was difficult to create bonds with them and they didn’t feel like siblings for a great deal of time. maya attempted to make it work as best as she could but it was evident that the long distance prevented the dombrova’s to be close siblings. 

- maya was told to pursue business but she wasn’t interested in the field at all. she was more fond of using the creative side of her brain rather than the analytical one. she did return to the states ( as she had a dual citizenship ) to attend school in boston ( harvard university ) but opted out of business and settled for creative writing instead. her parents were pissed and didn’t do much to support her decisions. they earned a loan or two from her aunt and uncle but the rest she paid off working 9-5 as a waitress. 

- she graduated and her parents didn’t show up to her ceremony despite graduating with honors. from there she moved to new york city to embark on her future career. she wrote for a few sitcoms as well as award ceremonies before getting a gig as a writer for saturday night live / anchor for weekend update. she stayed at snl for a great deal of time while balancing other projects ( movies / tv shows for snl cast members, etc ) it was nice living in the fast line, she even found the love of her life during the process of it all. 

- with emmy and golden globe nominations under her belt she was ready to start another chapter in her life: marriage and kids. getting married young wasn’t something she regretted as she thought she found her soulmate. the first year of their marriage had gone pretty well considering what’s typical during the first year. maya then became pregnant with her first child. the couple was ecstatic for the life they were going to bring into this world. jordan, or jordie her baby boy was born and maya’s entire life changed. she never knew she could fall in love with someone she first met. in that moment it clicked, she was meant to be a mother and the anxieties of motherhood washed away.

- when jordie was reaching his first birthday the couple noticed that jordie’s growth wasn’t up to speed in comparison to other children his age. the couple thought it was best to see what was wrong. there the couple discovered that jordie had non-verbal cerebral palsy. it was a difficult thing to hear but maya was willing to do whatever it took to learn about the disorder and provide her child nothing but the best care. her husband on the other hand had become overwhelmed with the sudden news. so one night, he got in his car and left. maya and jordie never saw or heard from him since. from then on, maya moved from the big city to jericho. 

- of course maya was upset but she did her best to conceal her feelings and be there for her son. she gave up her work and became a stay at home mom, a decision she doesn’t regret one bit. as jordie got older, maya wanted to give him siblings. so she decided to adopt a son named theo, a year later she adopted another girl riley. it’s a chaotic family but she has help from jordie’s aids as well as sympathetic neighbors. as her kids are getting a little bit older ( jordie is 17, theo is 14, and riley is 12 ) she decided it would be okay to start working once more. 

- it was a difficult thing for maya to do given that she is a bit of a helicopter mom. despite having an aid to help jordie out she, of course worries as any mother would. with this in mind she got a job at the local high school her children also attend. she works as an art teacher and occasionally substitutes as an english teacher given her writing background. 

- maya is a loud mouthed, tiger mom and picking a fight with her is more exhausting than the fight itself. as a true aries, she’s got a fiery nature and is always preaching about something. she’s got a personality as big as her curly hair and for some people it’s inviting but to others it’s just too much. at the end of the day, maya is someone you want on your team because of how hard she’ll fight for you. it’s evident that she gives a great deal about the things that mean the most to her and will do anything to make things right. she’s got a great heart and is always the shoulder to cry on if you need it.
