@lexiezavorskiphotoblog “SUNKISSED”
F/11 1/500 42mm IS0 1600
I see a middle aged teen who is sitting alone in front of a door in what seems to be a thoughtful state. The expression composed on his face is a mixture of self reflection and regret. Looking away from the camera shows that he doesn’t want to face whatever he is reflecting on or regretting. The vibrant pink hoodie is contrasting the emotions that he is feeling as though he is trying to mask the sadness that he is reflecting on. It provokes the viewer to ask themselves what is flowing through his mind, and makes them want to engage with him.

Sitting on his throne, with his royal purple over coat draped over him to promote power and mystery. His face is painted with a nonchalant attitude that shows he cares for no one that he comes to stand in front of him. Staring directly at whoever gazes upon this photo as though to judge them for even believing they deserve to be in his presences. Being in such a dark place makes it seem as though he wants to be in nothing but darkness, and it gives him power over who comes into his throne room.

I set my brother in a situation that he has never been in at least not on the outside. I wanted to immerse my subject in a total anxiety gripped situation to capitalize on how every teenager goes through some sort of anxiety, and how that anxiety can capture us and keep us from doing the things we love. Laying the paper all around emphasized that feeling of helplessness and created a void of uncertainty. Putting the duct tape on his mouth and around his hands accentuated that feeling of helplessness in that anxiety can grip a person and have full control over what they say or what they do. His facial expression ties into again that feeling of being captured by ones anxieties and having no power against them.

My little brother is not the spitting image of myself, but for this photo I wanted to embody a younger version of myself. Having him sit in front of this wall with covered in expressionless faces with no expression in a very slumped over defeated pose as though he is the embodiment of the faces on the wall. I told him to think of a time that he was unable to show emotion because it was to devastating.

The lines that make up the trees going horizontally across the image frame the flowing river so the can follow through the image from either side and end up gazing upon the river itself. As the eye flows along the horizontal branches i moves over the rough scape of the bark and the minuscule branches that cover it, and the uneven surface they have created.

I went as far off the beaten path in a forest preserve to find this hidden gem during a peak time where the sun was to the west, and covering the landscape with beautiful rays of light. The stunning light cast down from the sun enhances the landscape enhancing the colors throughout the image intensifying the feeling of a dry and dead environment.

The tree stands alone to the left in the frame allowing for an open and inviting space to the right that holds nothing but grass and a beautiful view of the sky. The sky holds nothing but unique fluffy clouds set onto a vibrant blue sky that is rich in color that contrast from the ground that is set beneath it.

The snow on the plants in the pond is what captivated me to capture this photo. It had just snowed and I wanted to see what I could get out of the forest preserve behind my house and it did not disappoint. It was overcast and made for a beautiful environment. The light was subtle which made for a perfect setting which added to the overall beauty of the scene, and made for a magical snowy landscape.

The most obvious formal element in this photograph is the top of the bucket, and that is because it is circular like every other bucket you may come across. The bucket sits right in the foreground of this photo, and draws the eye to the water spilling out of it.

The major thing I did to manipulate this ordinary object was by smashing it, and making it look more unique. No matter how many buckets you crush or smash they will not look the same, each one will have a unique set of dents. The main thing I learned from this experience was be natural, let the object make the shot.

What I did to make this sewer look unique was the camera angle, and really focus on the wood chips that are on the sewer along with the wood chips that surround the sewer.

Making this sewer unique was a lot of fun because I really capitalized on putting items in the sewer, and having a skateboard that has bars on it matches the bars on the sewer. So it is kind of like an idea within an idea.
