It was funny, remembering back to the beginning of the year. He was so upset when they didn’t choose him for Head Boy, and it sent him on a familiar spiral of overcompensating and anxiety. They’d given it to James Potter, of all people, when Edgar was right there with grades just as good and a spotless disciplinary record. Many months later, he decided it was a good thing that James Potter was made Head Boy. In a span of time so quickly he almost couldn’t believe it, he checked out of nearly everything he used to care so much about. What was the spot of Head Boy, when The Dark Lord and Grindelwald were out there?
He wouldn’t go so far to say he and Potter were friends, but Edgar held a strong respect for him now, especially after everything on Valentines Day. When he spotted Potter, sitting on a bench looking restless, Edgar surprised himself by sitting down next to him. “Everything alright, Potter?”
Tumblr media
Who: James & anyone Where: Outside Gryffindor tower When: I still don’t remember the date, sorry friends … after dinner
James had never been one to shy away from communication with his parents. As an only child, born late in life, his parents had always doted on him and that led to a very strong relationship as he grew older. Letters during his earlier Hogwarts years had been full of praise (and admonitions to behave better, though always delivered lovingly) and as he grew older, the letters had more and more advice on everything under the sun. He appreciated that, and even more when he started to realize how old his parents were. But then Glenda had gone missing and James had made several colossal mistakes and his parents had been so disappointed; his dad had even made the trip to Hogwarts just to talk to James about it. They hadn’t even come at Christmas so seeing his dad here had been shocking. And unpleasant.
Which was why he was postponing opening the most recent letter from them. It had been in his bag all day and then he’d pulled it out in the common room but couldn’t make himself open it there. Too many people. He’d stepped out and found a bench but still just held the letter, tapping it on his leg absently. He heard footsteps in the corridor but didn’t look up, hoping that it wouldn’t be someone looking for him.

Edgar was finding it increasingly difficult to wrap his mind around the theory of wandless magic. It didn’t come as easy to him as other things, but seemed like a vastly important skill, everything considered. He was on his third trip to the library this week, hunting for some book to help him sharpen his work, when he laid eyes on Liliane... a distressed Liliane, too. Worry colored his features and then dissolved into shock when she turned to face him. “Liliane? What on earth is the matter?”
Tumblr media
Who: Liliane & anyone Where: Outside the library When: midafternoon, sometime in the right time range
“Of course,” Liliane muttered as she shoved the library door open, harder than she really meant to. “Of course pureblood means you’re better than everyone. Of course the muggleborn students are automatically worse than other students. Of course that bullshit that people - can I help you?” She spun in the direction of the eyes that she felt on her, too irritated to bother with being polite.

Gabrielle had never been particularly good at following rules. While she didn’t inherently set out to break them, if they didn’t fit her plans they were meant to be broken - she had far too much life to live to let other peoples’ guidelines get in her way.  She and Edgar needed a night to themselves. With everything going on around them it only seemed fair, really. It had felt like the past weeks were in constant motion, and a night to just pause everything, to be with each other, was exactly what they needed.
Edgar knew the castle far better than she did, and as she followed quietly behind, Gabrielle couldn’t help the small tingle of butterflies she still got from his touch. Maman and Apolline had always said the butterflies would never go away, but they had always been far more romantic than Gabrielle.
A small grin formed as he spoke, and she turned to face him better, her voice low, “Have I corrupted a prefect? We would not want anyone to find out about that.”
Tumblr media
On one hand, he knew they ought to hurry from the castle and get on with their evening. But on the other, there was something intoxicating about sneaking around with her like this. Knowing they could be caught at any moment made every second all the more exciting. He watched her smile, feeling his chest turn to mush. It was a common occurrence now, and one he was not only accustomed to, but enjoyed. "I think that you have.” Edgar said back, lifting a hand to cup her cheek. He leaned forward and pressed a quick, mischievous kiss to her lips. “Keep up your good work.” He said against her mouth before pulling away and grabbing her hand again.
It was another quiet set of minutes spent checking around corners and taking very careful steps until they made it outside into the nighttime air. He smiled, taking in a long inhale and gazing happily at the moon. He squeezed her hand. “I think we’re rather good at this sneaking around ordeal. Don’t you?”

WHO: Edgar Bones and Gabrielle Bellamy WHEN: Friday, March 17th, 1978. 7:18PM. WHERE: The halls of Hogwarts, eventual Hogsmeade
Never in a million years did Edgar Bones ever think he would be where he was right now, stalking through Hogwarts silently, intending on sneaking out of the place. It was a blessing that his father was gone now. Getting caught was a risk he would be taking, but it was more than worth it, at least without the added risk of getting a lecture from his dad.
Thankfully, after six years of being a model student, he was more than equipped to get around undetected, for he knew where every prefect would be, and the aurors too. Trying his hardest not to make a sound, Edgar guided Gabrielle through the halls by her hand. He thought of them doing this in the future, in much more dangerous situations, sneaking around quietly together. He would enjoy this happy occasion, he thought.
“Almost there.” He whispered nearly silently, his lips mere millimeters from her ear. Hopefully everyone would be at dinner, instead of roaming the halls. @notyourfrenchdoll

Edgar was never one to back down from a challenge, but most especially not from Antonin Dolohov. He lifted his chin, glancing down at the small note in Antonin’s hands. Gabrielle had given it to Edgar, and while it was nothing especially valuable, it was the principle of the matter. “No you’re not.” He said, his voice hard around the edges. “It’s mine. Give it back.”
Tumblr media
“Dropped it?” Antonin looked positively blasé at the words. “Too bad. I’m keeping it.”

frank-ezra-longbottom‌:
t-edwardtonks‌:
Ted had been slightly disappointed when the professor announced a change in seating arrangements. He quite liked his seat next to Charity Burbage. There was something comforting about sitting next to a fellow Hufflepuff, and Charity was incredibly nice. She was so patient when Ted fumbled over spells or took a bit longer to get them down, and he desperately hoped that he would be placed next to another one of his friends. Frank was his first choice for sure, but Alice would also make a wonderful partner, and Xeno was… also a fellow Hufflepuff. Ted considered himself lucky to be placed in a house with so many wonderful new friends, but fate seemed determined to have him branch out.
Edgar Bones was not someone Ted had attempted to befriend in his short month at school, but Ted had certainly noticed Edgar. It was obvious the other boy was much better at magic than he was, and at first Ted worried Edgar might hate having him as a partner when he learned how slow Ted was to pick up new spells. But as luck would have it, the opposite seemed to true as Edgar eagerly helped Ted with the Knockback Jinx. By the end of the lesson, Ted’s sides hurt from laughing so hard and he couldn’t help grinning as he packed up his book bag. “You have a sister?” Ted asked, his face alighting with excitement. “I have three! None of them know what a Knockback Jinx is, though.”
Over Edgar’s shoulder, Ted saw Frank already heading toward the door and called out to him. “Hey, Frank! Wait up!” Turning back to Edgar, Ted gave him a bright smile and tipped his head toward the door in a gesture for him to follow. “Come on, I’ll introduce you to my friend.” On a second thought, Ted worried for a moment that Frank might not want Edgar to walk with them, but quickly brushed the thought away. Of course Frank would like Edgar, what wasn’t there to like? “Edgar Bones, meet my friend, Frank Longbottom.”
@frank-ezra-longbottom
Getting a new partner for this class would definitely be a good thing. Sure the girl he was paired with seemed to be pretty talented but she was also, for lack of a better word, a total brat. It didn’t escape him that people were weary of him still, especially with his father’s trial still plastered all over the papers, but that no reason at all to treat him the way that Amara Zabini had. His hopes hadn’t really been high for his new partner either. He didn’t think he had very much hope of making a lot of friends. It was with absolute joy that he waved goodbye to Amara for what was hopefully the very last time and went to sit next to one of the two friends he had actually made.
By the end of the lesson he and Alice were still laughing about how hard her last spell had hit him. It had been his own fault for teasing her. He’d near about flown over the pillows that had been set up on the floor! They were just leaving the classroom when he heard Ted calling for him. “You win this round, Fortescue. Bet i’ll get you next time though!” he said as the girl retreated from him. It was with a smile that he turned towards Ted and the Ravenclaw boy at his side, “Bones? Hey, yeah, I think I’ve heard of you. Nice to meet you”
@edgxrbxnxs
Edgar lifted his chin, giving this new boy a once over. He recognized Frank’s last name. Longbottom. Everyone knew that last name. His father had always taught Edgar to never buy into rumors and speculation without reason, and he could see none about Frank. He smiled, lifting his hand in greeting. “Nice to meet you too.” The class was growing more and more empty by the second, so with his newfound acquaintances, Edgar began to edge towards the doorway. “Do you have any sisters, Frank? We---” He gestured to Ted, “---were just talking about ours and how they don’t know the Knockback Jinx.” Reminded of this, he smiled again at the thought of writing Amelia.

hestia-jones·:
She almost felt like asking him if he were delusional, or simply believed in fairy tales where nothing bad ever happened to people who didn’t deserve it. Because it was that kind of thinking that would allow someone to believe that nothing would happen at Hogwarts. “It was only a matter of time.” The words came out bitter, sad almost. And it was something that made her sad, but with everything going on she had known that it would eventually reach the castle. No place could stay perfectly safe forever. It was a horrible way to think, but it was exactly how her mind worked. She thought about the terrible things, so that way she wouldn’t be surprised when they happened. It kept her from making foolish decisions, from backing out of promises even after things had changed.
Hestia cared about a total of two people, and as long as they were fine nothing else particularly mattered. “It is.” She agreed with him, not bothering to argue against something that was probably true. “But I suppose we both had the wrong impressions of each other.” The girl sighed. “And for your information, I only care about Quidditch so much because it seems to be the only thing that keeps peoples spirits up anymore. So I guess if you only care about yourself and focusing on the negatives, then feel free to quit.”
Tumblr media
He couldn’t imagine how someone could be so jaded, so cynical. “Only a matter of time...” He muttered under his breath, in disbelief. He couldn’t help it, but he was more than offended by this time conversation. He stood up from the bench, feeling disgusted by the entire conversation. Funny how this started with a topic as innocent as Quidditch. Had he known it would have devolved into this... mess, he wouldn’t have spoken up at all.
“Funny to hear you complaining about me thinking of only myself after what you just said.” Edgar snapped, pointing his finger at her. How had it taken him so many years to realize that she was not only cold, but awful too? “Enjoy the rest of your lunch, Hestia.” He said curtly, turning on his heels. He could see Gabrielle and Liliane, so without any further argument, he walked away and dropped into the spot next to them. He’d certainly learned his lesson about speaking to Hestia Jones, that much was clear.

moony-themarauder·:
After his outburst, Remus grew quiet, thinking his own words over. Tragedy was a tricky thing, guilt even trickier. He supposed it was only human nature to look for somewhere to place blame when terrible things happened. Some found fault with others, some with the situation, and others with themselves. His own father had done that, placed blame on himself for the tragedy of Remus’s lycanthropy. No matter how many times Remus had tried to free his father of his guilt, he only seemed to cling to it tighter. Well, if he couldn’t convince his father to let go of responsibility, at least he had managed to convince Edgar.
“I am right.” Remus said quietly, giving Edgar a slight nod. He wouldn’t push further as it wasn’t truly any of his business, allowing Edgar to back away from the subject easily. Pausing for a moment, Remus mulled over the offer. He certainly didn’t want to shirk his responsibilities, but this close to a full moon he found his eyelids heavy and his motivation waning. “Thanks, Edgar, I’d appreciate it if you would. Just this once, I swear.”
Tumblr media
Edgar waved his hand. “It’s no problem at all, Remus.” He stuffed his hands into the pockets of his pants. “Besides, maybe you could return the favor sometime.” It would be nice to have an out on prefect rounds, at least one time, anyways. It had been becoming more and more difficult for Edgar to find the energy to care about Prefect rounds, let alone want to go. He could use a night to practice his dueling, or to spend with Gabrielle.
Edgar took a step away, indicating that he was ready to head out. “Get some rest.” He said kindly. He didn’t know how to put it into words, but he was more than thankful for this conversation. Before he walked away, he smiled one more time. “See you in Charms tomorrow, mate.”

dadwardbones·:
Edward watched as his son settled into the seat across from him, seemingly lighter, as if a weight had been lifted from his shoulders. For the first time in months, the tension that had lingered between them seemed to dissipate, and they fell back into their old routine. One where Edward was sure his son trusted him even with the most sensitive of information. In turn, Edward felt himself easing back into his own chair, his smile coming more easily than before. “Mum will be glad to meet her, I’m sure.”
Truth be told, Edward couldn’t remember if the two had been introduced over Christmas or not. He’d been so busy with the population of the school nearly doubling overnight, the logistics and security concerns that accompanied the parents visiting their children for the holidays, that he hadn’t spent as much time with his own family as he’d have liked. It wasn’t the first time his job had prevented him from enjoying Christmas with his children, and though Edward was sure it wouldn’t be the last, he found it never grew any easier.
“You know Gabrielle welcome at home anytime.” Edward reminded his son. Their children’s friends had always been welcome over, whether that be for dinner, a few days’ visit, or as semi-permanent residents. In Gabrielle’s case, however, Edward supposed this was a bit different. “If you’d like, maybe she could come round over the summer and we’ll have dinner or something special for her? You’ve gotten pretty good in the kitchen, might be nice to show off a bit.” Edward couldn’t help teasing his son tad, though the offer was genuine. He’d always told his son that someday he’d want to impress a woman and the best way to do that was in the kitchen.
Tumblr media
“That would be nice.” Edgar said. He could see it--- almost too clearly. He would be nervous, nervous enough that he would probably drive his family crazy trying to make everything perfect for Gabrielle’s arrival. The house would have to be spotless, and his bedroom too. Especially his bedroom. The food would have to be excellent--- French cuisine, probably. That way he could not only impress her with his thoughtfulness, but he could also show off his skills in the kitchen. Imagining this made him smile. Realizing that summer was only a few months away, and that his would quickly become a reality, made him grin.
He was more than sure that he would marry Gabrielle, sooner rather than later. His father probably wouldn’t understand, and would probably tell Edgar not to rush into anything too quickly, so he didn’t. They would understand, one day, and that was enough for him right now. He glanced down at his lap and then back up. The grin on his face remained. “It’s--- it’s kind of a funny story, how we ended up getting together.” He said, confident that his dad would want to know more details. “I think you would appreciate it.”

the-fabianprewett·:
“Yeah well that was my mistake, wasn’t it? Trusting you?” Fabian shot back, his fingers curling tightly into his palms. “One you can be sure I won’t be making again.” His voice was low and he fought off the emotion that threatened to leak through should he raise his voice. Fabian and Gideon had joined the Order to make a difference in this war, sick of doing nothing, sitting by and letting it happen around them. It was this same drive that had pushed them to agree to Edgar Bones’s plan in the first place, however half-assed it might have been.
“You know, you talk a big game, Bones. You’re a salesman if I’ve ever met one.” Fabian  said, pointing a finger at the boy standing before him. “Yeah the rest of us agreed, but it was your idea. No doubt you would have taken credit for it had it gone well, you best be ready to take credit for it when it goes poorly.” And the rest of them gladly would have credited Bones for a job well done had it come to that, but Fabian couldn’t understand why no one was willing to recognize his fault in all of this.
“Blaming you might not fix what happened to Glenda, but maybe it’ll make others think twice before following your lead again. Maybe it’ll make you think twice before proposing another half-assed plan.”
Tumblr media
Fabian wasn’t saying anything that Edgar had not already told himself, and yet he could not help but to feel defensive. Maybe it had been a mistake for them to trust him, but he found it difficult to accept that. Criticism had never been something that he was very good at taking, and he knew that was something personal that he needed to work on. He bit hard into cheek, and the nails that were already digging into his palm buried even deeper. He wanted to argue back, but he knew that wasn’t the correct course of action. Edgar didn’t have the upper ground here, and while that irked him to no end, he knew that lashing out wasn’t the right thing to do.
This whole thing would make him think twice about future plans, but he didn’t want to admit that to Fabian. He already felt foolish enough, and while it was true that maybe he deserved this, he was an imperfect person that would much rather be angry at Fabian than listen to what he had to say. “If that’s all, Fabian---” He still couldn’t believe he was arguing with Fabian of all people, but here he was. “--- then I think we ought to go our separate ways. This conversation isn’t productive.”

Gabrielle welcomed the closer contact, and the kiss, as they came, letting out a small sigh as Edgar’s lips moved away. Her hand traveled up, brushing a piece of hair out of his face, before lingering on his cheek. How could she even know if she was right? All of this had been a whirlwind, and it ended less than spectacularly.
“Between us, and the aurors, and the professors - she will be found.” Gabrielle took in a deep breath, trying to make her words sound more confident than she  felt. If anyone could see through her, it would be Edgar. She only hoped that her facade was strong enough. “I hate it too. But we can not stop fighting because of it.”
Tumblr media
There was something in between the lines of what Gabrielle said, something less confident than the words she was actually saying. He rested his forehead against hers, wishing they he could wrap himself around her like they were lying in bed up in Ravenclaw Tower. Unfortunately, there were too many Professors and Aurors walking about, so this would have to suffice. “I know you’re right.” He whispered. The feelings swirling around his chest did not go away, but he didn’t expect them to. Not tonight, anyways.
He sighed, feeling more tired than he ought to. “I guess we should try to get to sleep.” He murmured. He sounded downtrodden, and he didn’t like it, but he couldn’t think of anything to do about it, so he wanted to sleep. “I love you.”

While he was gone, Gabrielle took a moment to take another sip of wine, before carefully tucking the photo back into its place. She turned a page, and was greeted by another smiling photo of her family, this time from a newspaper clipping from after her father had gotten his spot in the French Ministry. She paused, not wanting to get too much farther without Edgar.
She greeted him with a smile as he sat back down, giggling a bit as he took another sip of the wine. She waited, watching as he took the photo, before letting out a laugh when she fully saw it. “What on earth?!” She recognized the green houses, and a small child who must have been Ted laughing in the back. “And Professor Sprout let this happen?!”
Tumblr media
“Professor Sprout’s always had a soft spot for Ted and Frank, I think.” He murmured quietly, running a thumb over the front of his twelve-year-old face. He looked so angry in the picture, gesturing furiously at the dirt splattered across the front of his vest. Even as a child, he’d always been concerned with his appearance. “She didn’t let them do it again, though. --- I wasn’t all that happy. Obviously.” He said, tapping the younger version of himself again.
Edgar flipped to another page in the photo album. This time, it was a picture of Edgar, thirteen years old this time, wearing the blue robes of the Ravenclaw Quidditch Team. “I joined the team that year.” He said, glancing in her direction. “I’m thinking about quitting, you know. The team.”

savannah-wilkinson·:
What should have felt like an enjoyable, if not romantic, evening stroll through the castle instead felt like a strange sort of march to Savannah. The two walked side by side, with no connection to the other aside from their matched steps. Now, Savannah wasn’t a forward girl, but she wasn’t a prude by any means either. She remembered the way her hands had met Edgar’s as she taught him how to play the spoons in the Ravenclaw Common Room and she wondered why he didn’t reach for her hand now. It wouldn’t have been very forward of him at all considering they’d already kissed weeks ago. It had been so comfortable between them only a short while before and Savannah couldn’t understand how so much had changed so quickly. Was it the difference in opinion? Had she offended him so badly? Glancing at Edgar from the corner of her eye, Savannah’s lips drew together in small frown. He wouldn’t so much as even look at her now.
“It was nice.” She said politely, running her hands over her dress once more. That was all? Savannah Wilkinson was a skilled conversationalist, and after their first meeting on New Year’s Eve, she had assumed Edgar Bones was as well. Savannah had thrown out as many lifelines as she could think to in order to get their date back on track and Edgar hadn’t picked up on a single one. It somehow felt less like a failure on her part and more of a deliberate choice on his. Savannah sure felt the sting in her pride, and she didn’t like it one bit.
Perhaps Edgar was playing hard to get? He wouldn’t have been the first boy to try that with her either, but it was an incredible turn-off for Savannah. She was not one to waste time chasing after a boy who wanted to play games and certainly wouldn’t start now, no matter how much she had enjoyed their time together before. Still, the silence that lingered between them was uncomfortable and Savannah couldn’t help but fill it. “Well, then. I suppose I don’t have as many dates to look forward to as you do.” She said, feeling a bit silly for admitting how nervous and excited she had been when it seemed Edgar didn’t care at all.
Tumblr media
Edgar was vividly aware that Savannah’s hand was next to his, open for the taking. He should grab it, he told himself. Do something--- anything, to get this date back on track. He felt like he was watching himself from underwater, unable to do anything, and if he tried, he would only drown. He clenched his jaw tightly, taking great care to look at anything but her. Savannah was a smart girl, and she had definitely noticed that something was off with Edgar. He couldn’t bare to see it in her eyes. He thought about her hand again, wishing that he could be brave enough to reach for it. When had he ever been scared of something as easy as holding a pretty girl’s hand?
Edgar grimaced as he rounded the corner towards the kitchens. “I---” He didn’t know how to respond to that. “I don’t have a lot of dates.” He’d only ever had two girlfriends, but from the way he was acting, it was like he never had any. How could he explain to her what was really going on? He could hear a voice in the back of his head saying that it would be easy enough, that she would probably understand. That was likely the truth. Savannah was kind, and understanding, and he sincerely doubted that she would begrudge him for feeling this way. And yet, like always, the thought of voicing anything like that made him want to shrivel away even more than he already had.
Still, this couldn’t go on further, could it? Edgar took a deep breath, and pulled at his tie again. He couldn’t think of anything to say, but it wasn’t like they could keep walking in silence, right? So, without thinking, he said the first thing that came to mind. “So, er---- you’re friends with Ludo, aren’t you?”

savannah-wilkinson·:
His tone made it sound as if it were funny. Perhaps if Savannah Wilkinson had been in a better mood she might have also seen the humor in their awful date, but as it was she didn’t feel much like laughing. “Ah, a perfectionist.” She sighed, looking away. That was certainly a first. It wasn’t a very satisfying excuse, but she supposed she could give Edgar points for creativity if nothing else. As someone who also strove for perfection, however, Savannah seemed to have the opposite problem from Edgar Bones. As hard as she worked, no matter what she did, she always fell short of perfection. There was no shortage of critics either. Whether that be her parents, Aunt Seraphina, her teachers, or her peers, there always seemed to be someone who thought she could do better and Savannah did her best to meet their expectations. Every single one of them. Rather than feeling as if perfection was a title to maintain, Savannah felt it was the finish line of a race that was constantly set back just a bit further with every step she took.
If apologies could be considered art, then Edgar Bones was a master of the craft. In all honesty, it was probably the most sincere apology Savannah had ever received. A fact which made it difficult to hold a grudge against him. “You weren’t horrid.” Savannah said with an over-exaggerated sigh, allowing a small smile to tug at the corner of her lips as she looked back at him. It wasn’t a statement of forgiveness, but it was a peace offering of sorts, and a small attempt at humor on Savannah’s part. “Though I’ll accept your rebuttal if you’d like to debate the quality of our date further.” This time she nudged him with her elbow, an illustration that she was kidding in case he couldn’t already tell.
Tumblr media
Edgar broke into a smile. “I was horrid, but thank you for trying to assure me otherwise.” He decided then that this had been a good thing--- coming to talk to Savannah Wilkinson. His chest already felt lighter, now that he was finished carrying around a yet-to-be-offered apology on his shoulders. He would have to go and find Gabrielle, to tell her about this. Merlin knew she’d listened to him bemoan about this more than enough in the last few months. Edgar’s smile widened when Savannah lightly pushed him with her elbow. Suddenly, like all of the times before that horrible, awful date, he found it easy to talk to her again.
“I admit defeat.” He said, holding both hands up in supplication. “Not very easy for me to do. I’ve been known to drag debates on far beyond their expiration dates.” He ran a hand through his hair, and then cocked his head back towards the rest of the Great Hall. “I suppose I ought to get back to patrolling. Thank you Savannah...” He trailed off, gathering his thoughts. “...for hearing me out, and for understanding, I suppose.” It was then that he recalled the forlorn look on her face when he had approached. “And, y’know---” He waved his hand around, “---if you ever want to talk, or anything like that, you know where to find me.”

frank-ezra-longbottom‌:
The baffled look on Ted’s face surely mirrored his own. “I - “ he began in answer to his companion’s question when Edgar appeared at their side. His eyes darted to the letter in his hand once more before looking back to his friends. He wasn’t really sure of what to say. Surely they understood that he held no true opposition to being married to Alice. In all of their years of friendship he had never said out loud what he felt for her, but he had done absolutely nothing to try and hide it either. If it wasn’t for the shock of being forced to do so there wouldn’t even have been a problem to begin with. “My mother arranged a marriage for me. You’ll never guess the bride” he said, extending the letter back towards them so that they could read it for themselves.
Tumblr media
@t-edwardtonks
Ted Tonks was not the nosy sort. He didn’t go digging around in other people’s business or bombarding them with unwarranted questions about their personal lives. He knew what it was to have a secret, or what it was like to want to keep something to yourself. So he never pushed his friends or peers to share anything with him that might make them uncomfortable. Now, this by no means meant that Ted was not a curious person by nature. The instant Frank slid the letter his way, Ted was quick to lean in closer, scanning it until he found a familiar name. He blinked once, twice, shook his head and blinked again just to make sure he was seeing things properly. And even when he was sure that it had been Alice’s name neatly printed on the parchment, Ted found words even more of a struggle. “You- wait- I mean- how did this happen?”
Tumblr media

Edgar Bones was the nosy sort. In unison with Ted, Edgar leaned forward to read the letter held out before them. His eyes widened, and he looked over at Ted just to make sure that he hadn’t made this all up, or something. There was a lot for him to ponder over. An arranged marriage? To Alice, of all people? Sometimes, Edgar forgot that Frank’s family was apart of the Sacred Twenty Eight, so much so that he hadn’t even conceived that Frank might be forced to marry someone beyond his choosing. “Your mother... has engaged you to Alice?” Well, that was certainly irony if Edgar had ever seen it.

The dorm wasn’t empty very often, and when he noticed that it was, Edgar decided that he was going to take advantage. He rarely was able to read in bed due to the chatter and noise, so with a bit of excitement rushing through him, he hurried to take off his clothes. He was pulling his trousers off when the door opened, startling him. He began to tip to the side, and panic quickly reared up as he tried to get his balance. “Oh-- shit-- fuc--” With one hard yank, he was free from his pants. Jolting back upright, he tried his best to lean casually against the wall. “Er-- hey there. Just, uh, getting ready for bed.”

A faint smile was on Hestia’s lips. She found it amusing how a switched seemed to flip. It wasn’t major, but he wasn’t just some nice guy trying to be peaceful. Now he seemed to actually have some fire in him, some spunk. “You do realize that people have been dying since before this school year correct?” She asked, wondering if he’d been living in a bubble. Sure not everybody had been affected by everything going on like she had but she didn’t realize that it’d made them blind to it. It also wasn’t as if she would wish death and mourning upon anyone, but it was nice to finally have people who she could relate to a bit. Even if it was quite morbid.
Hestia truly wondered how he could be eating cheese pudding, finding the food rather disgusting herself. She also wondered why he would continue to eat while starting a heated debate with her. “And why would I of all people ‘understand’?” She questioned him, daring him to say what she thought, even throwing in air quotes. She was going to wait before she exploded though. Already feeling the tension in the air rise, her classmates slowly backing away from the two of them in fear of what would be said next.

“Not here, not inside of the castle, they haven’t.” He snapped, brows knitting together in surprise anger. Had she just forgotten about their own fallen housemate? With attacks happening so often he supposed it was understandable that Halloween could slip under the cracks, but not for Edgar. He was entirely regretting this conversation, if only because he was finding Hestia to be entirely horrible. He took another large bite of his food in an effort to speed things up so he could move down the table by Gabrielle and Liliane. They were certainly better company.
“I expected you of all people to understand, because I was under the impression that you cared more about people’s lives than quidditch. Sorry if that was too much of a stretch.” He smiled coldly at her, and then pushed his nearly finished lunch away, preparing to leave. “My mistake.”
