Reflective statement and self reflection based around the course paper:
Tumblr media
Self reflection:
Based on the manipulated image course paper, I have found and discovered many new skills, most of these skills were based around how to mask objects and manipulate my photos, The main tools that I used during my whole process of creating was mainly masking tools such as the pen tool, polygonal tool, magic wand tool and many other masking tools. These has helped me to crop, cut and manipulate my images. Learning about this certain skill will definitely help me in the future. Overall this course paper has helped me to get a better understanding on how you can view and create life, through the lens of a camera. It creates an atmosphere for me to share my identity as a creative individual and show my story through a creative lens perspective. I have enjoyed this course and I hope to use these skills and develop them overtime

substituting the background of the sky with a market shelf:
Tumblr media
This was a last minute change that I did for my first manipulated image, I decided to substitute the sky with the market shelf shot, the reason behind this was because I wanted my images to flow from 1 to 3. I thought it turned out really good as the background suited the middle section of the image as it had the same colour palette and were both taken in Otara. I also wanted to add the food shelf because of how the food is linked to the connection of suburbs, creating a universal language in South Auckland as all the food is the same no matter which part of South Auckland you transport too.

Incontext creations:
Here are some in-contexts designs that I created, I wanted to base these in-contexts in locations that would fit South Auckland, one being at bus stops and the other being on screen billboards. The reason behind why I chose these certain contexts is due to the fact that they relate heavily to my manipulated images, an example of would be the bus stop and how it connects to my first manipulated image with the ideation of transportation and connection with other suburbs in South Auckland..

Ideation making based around my theme that I'm going for:
Tumblr media
Here is an Ideation that I created on photoshop last week Friday during class..
This ideation manipulated image that I created was based around my life and passion that revolves around the dance community in South Auckland. Each of these images are not my own and I found them on google. Most of these images are of real dancers within the South Auckland community. One of them that you see in this concept is J.Happyfeet who attended De La Salle College and is now a hip-hop dancer representing New Zealand in large competitions over seas.
I added shoes that are hanging on the power line as a representation of South Auckland as well as a graffiti wall located in Mangere. All of these aspects tie together because it shows the representation of the dance community, Culture and Identity. This is also a representation of my life living in South Auckland as I was brought up to the things I see happen there.

Here is a Screenshot of my reflective statement draft:
The theme that I will be going for based around my Photograph series exploration is based around my self-identity growing up in South Auckland. I want to incorporate many different aspects into my manipulated images such as my relations, memories, neighbourhood, people, culture and creative community.
The main key aspect that I want to focus on though would probably be the creative community and dig deep into the aspects within this certain topic such as the dance, cultural, music and art community within South Auckland. This certain aspect links to other aspects such as the people, culture and memories, neighbourhoods and bonds. I also relate to this section within South Auckland as I'm apart of this community so it makes it so much easier for me.

1st Manipulated image: I Used 2 images of my own from the 21 categories under the human made objects category. I also used another students image which was under the plants and trees category.
My main focus for this manipulated image is that I wanted the image to look like it was coming from a point of view perspective, the original photo is of a camera looking down to my shoes and the concrete floor. I decided to add aspects of another photo that I took which was of posters, graffiti's and stickers on a power box. the poster that was on the power box really caught my eye so i decided to use the pen tool to crop it out. I also used another students photo and substituted the concrete with flowers and leaves.
My main goal for this certain manipulated image is I want to refine it more to make it look more realistic and also try and blend all the photos together to make it look more natural.

Brief History of Photography and Truth Reflection:
Tumblr media
This article/website talks about the history of photography and how it can be portrayed as being the truth or being a lie in a manipulative way. It also really digs deep into the rich history behind photographic practice as well as how photographers have manipulated the countless photos over the centuries.
There is a brief discussion about how the photographic practices and the photography community has been reminded that photography's complicated relationship with the 'truth' is not a new condition. It has been viewed as being authentic, factual and a representation of truth. Recent years have covered stating the belief and questioned the ideation revolving around manipulated and fake photographs.
There were many historic moments to do with fake photography and manipulation to do with photographs. An example of this would be a recent occurrence in mid-June with the BLM ( Black Lives Matter Protest) Fox News were accused of manipulating photographs relating to/ depicting the events surrounding the protest, Including the manipulation of formation involving the capitol hill autonomous zone (CHAZ) in Seattle. The photo was later viewed as Unethical, Unauthentic and unrepresentative.
Based on reading this article, I found out that photography can sometimes be the truth or a lie. The main idea/concept that revolved around this article was the view and use of manipulation through the lens. I feel like there are many stories that revolve around the manipulation of photography and how it can portray stories/photos. the stories can also be portrayed as being the truth or a lie.

Beate Gütschow: Reflection (Z)
Based on my point of view revolving around Beate Gütschow ‘s work, i mainly looked at the ‘Z’ section of her series. I found her work to be very abstract, and architectural-like. she mainly based most of her work in this section around presence and imagination.
There was a quote within the section saying, “For every image of the past that is not recognized by the present as one of its own concerns, threatens to disappear irretrievably.” Walter Benjamin “
I think that she was relating this certain quote to her work and established an idea of creating a world that does not seem recognized by present time. She mainly wanted to explore the concept of imagining every single sound to be heard within the area. The reason behind her doing this was because she didnt want to lose the idea of being lost. So with her work in this section, I guess there were layers to it. An example of this would be of her work being revealed one after another. she would use an example which was using a kitchen wall and removing layers of the wall to reveal a more things behind it. the main point that Beate Gütschow wanted to get across with this section was that she based it on her child-hood and she wanted it to be preserved, accessible and meaningful.
