"He stood amongst the vanquished and to them gave hope. He marched before the valiant and to them gave courage. He danced with the victors and mourned with the defeated. He was was an idol to all and a servant to none. Many looked to the farthest horizon and could see the teeming multitudes yearning to worship him. Yet I alone could call him mine. And in the cool of the evening, after the meal had ended, and the slaves had left us, and the glow of the embers diminished, and the aubergine curtain of night covered our nakedness, he would whisper in my ear alone and call me lover." Etienne de Saint-SImon "Chroniques du Décrépit Beauvoir : Livre 6, Verse 39" 1872
