He let her push him with the kind of good-natured ease that came with knowing that he wasn't ever going to push back. It felt a little like flirting on her end, but Max had yet to decide if it was worth it or not to actually pursue. Better, he decided, to wait and see if Allison Greene was capable of being as frosty as he heard.
Looking over, Max's eyebrows raised slightly and he grinned. It was becoming a fixation, lately, to utterly surprise girls by acting outside the stereotype he'd existed in so comfortably until lately. "No one ever does, really." His expression went from amused to remarkably innocent-- something that he'd considered both a talent and a godsend after escaping countless detentions. "I would never think of using such serious and divine gifts as toys for my own amusement, although I'm more of a Batman kind of guy, I have watched the Spider-Man movies and am therefore quite clear on the concept of how power meets responsibility." A dazzling grin illuminated his face for an instant. "Really."
Revelations .. Allison & Max
When he laughed, her embarrassment only became worse and she looked down for a bit, grinning at his comment but still trying to retain a look of seriousness and indifference. “Shut up,” she chuckled and shoved him playfully, almost wishing she hadn’t once she realized that it had come off a bit more flirtatious than she would have liked it to be. If there was one thing she didn’t need, it was Max thinking that he had some kind of footing with her.
Her eyebrows were raised with his response, not expecting it at all. “I have to say, I didn’t think you were going to be this calm about all of this I didn’t give you enough credit,” she said honestly, speaking only the truth. She expected him to kick her out or call the police after she demonstrated his power, but this was a welcomed surprise. “No, I don’t but I think you should understand that this isn’t a game. These powers aren’t just a toy for your own amusement I don’t really have to give you the Spider-Man speech do I?”

Thanks. I bet you like being right, too.

Sandlot reference. Nice touch. I do, though its mainly documentaries and crime dramas. I like guessing the endings.

You're killin' me, Smalls. Do you watch TV at all, or does that clash with the broody, Heathcliff persona you've cultivated?

I go running every morning. That’s about as active as I get.

It's not ranking so much as categorizing. I was just curious, is all. Do you like anything a bit more active than reading? Or maybe anything less intellectually stimulating?
I read because I enjoy them. I don’t tend to rank them.

His brows shot upwards as Allison responded then looked thoroughly embarrassed. The half-smile he'd been sporting morphed into a full-blown laugh. "Hey, it's not a big deal. Some guys are into that." It was hard to find the right response to an admission like that, but Max was fairly sure he'd handled it well-- nothing offensive or derogatory was said either way.
"Alright," he agreed after a moment's pause, looking over at her with a serious expression that most didn't ever get to see on Max Lockwood's face. "Let's bind this shit up, then. If I have any questions I think we could probably answer them on the fly as long as we've got the Holy Grail of witch powers with us." Max nodded at the book in Allison's hands. "Do you have any questions? Or is there anything I should be asking but I'm not?"
Revelations .. Allison & Max
Allison returned the smile he gave and slowly shook her head, not at all surprised by his comment. “Unfortunately not all of us are as lucky as you,” she hinted and regretted it instantly. There were some things that she didn’t need Max to know and her being a virgin was one of them. She simply smiled again after the comment, hoping to keep the mood as light at it was and masking the sense of embarrassment the splattered her face without remorse.
Clearing her throat for the second time, she was relieved once he had took it upon himself to change the subject, as he began asking questions she took a eat on the couch for a second time. Shaking her head she looked over to him, “I mean I don’t think so it says that we’re being bound to each other not the land or whatever,” she informed with a grin before taking her hair and wrapping it up in a quick pony as she looked over to him, “so do you have any questions or something?”

Dickens seems like an outlier if you're talking Poe and King, too. Hardly a master of horror.
Everything. Dickens, Homer, Poe and even more modern Stephen King.

Yeah? I'll take it as a start. What do you read, outside of whatever that Portuguese was?

You would be correct in your assumption. Okay, now I am willing to admit I’m slightly impressed.

Fair enough. Never pegged you as easy. I do read, when the mood strikes. Bukowski, Hemingway, even read Steinbeck once, but that was in the ninth grade.
I don’t want to give you the satisfaction of answering that just yet.

Staring at the paper, Max's eyes were drawn upward by the sound of her voice. He caught Allison staring in a way that'd he had grown used to over the last few years. Unable to help himself, Max shot a lopsided grin over at the blonde next to him. "I wasn't really too worried about the sacrifice," he confessed. "From a self-saving point of view, I think sacrifices require a certain virginal attribute that I personally would lack."
Settling back as Allison began pacing, his attention returned to the actual binding spell and processes required. One hand raised to rub at the scruff he'd acquired over the past few days as he contemplated what it all meant. "This binding thing doesn't keep us in the town, right? Cus if it does than I'm not about to join up." He looked at her intently for a moment, trying to judge whether or not he'd know if Allison actually lied to him with her response.
Revelations .. Allison & Max
At his question, she just slowly grabbed her book and skipped another set of pages until she found the one she had been looking for, turning it over for him to see, she pointed at the spell and the detailed instructions that the pages listed. “Its really simple, actually. We all just have to say an oath with all of our individual elements present, and after that we will be bound, theres not type of human sacrifice or anything—don’t worry,” she promised with a small chuckle and she looked up to meet his eyes again, however this time they stared into them for a few moments before her consciousness returned to her.
Clearing her throat, the blonde shook her head and stood up, pacing the living room again and looking at the boy for any hint of emotion or thought. She knew that this was a lot to take in but she soon realized that the sooner everyone in the Circle was aware of their origin, the sooner that they could just bind the circle and not have to worry about any magic or mayhem running amuck. After a few moments of silence she spoke again, “So…what do you think?”

Hey, all you have to do is write it down and suddenly you're the new Bukowski.
Don’t really think I have a marketable talent though. Besides, I don’t really see myself as the marketable type. My stunning looks are what I seem to have going for me; makes up for my sharp tongue.

Theoretically. A marketable talent could work in place of an education, though.
Yes, well, I would like to be able to support myself later on in life. I need schooling for that.

Admirable, but remarkably plebian.
You’re got a bit of a tell. You should watch out for that. Good for you, I myself would rather finish my education.

How do you know I was kidding? And besides, I've got you beat. The day I turn eighteen, I'm out of here.

Dramatic but I plan on getting out. As soon as I’ve graduated. There’s not reason for me to stay and I don’t plan on their ever being reason for me to stay.

They're trying to break all of us. One by one, creating poor bastards that are going to live here the rest of our miserable lives. Get out while you can.
Is there some super secret council out there that wants to break me? I’d certainly love to see them try.

You've clearly not been here long, then. Don't ever let them break your spirit, Natasha!
I like living on the edge. It’s just riveting. And just because there’s a curfew doesn’t mean I’m not going to enjoy as much freedom as I can.
