think of it though

a retired army officer whose wife is dead. she has a motive of finding a magician that can reanimate/revive her and she will do absolutely anything so she has gone way too far and is simply killing the magicians that are not able to do it. she keeps her wifes body in a frozen room in her huge mansion that she got after rejoining the army. so like after aprils death she rejoins the army and continues to train after shes discharged again and becomes one of the richest people in the country and begins the search for a magician that could help her. in her second term as an army officer she encounters a child and decides to take care of her.

so like she thinks of her as hers and aprils even though she isnt biologically she is in her mind. she learns to parent and she becomes the dearest thing she has ever had besides april and like the protagonists would have to tell her

"you have a daughter that loves you that now fears you because of your actions to try to revive someone that you refuse to let go of. she is right there in front of you and she is terrified! your wife wouldnt want that. so let go of her." or something along those lines. every day im plagued by the fact that im not a writer. one day though when every other character will be born i will have to make something really good.

and the thought of because maya refuses to let go of april and therefor aprils ghost haunting her until she finally makes peace with it and buries her body. but i also think the only ending that would work for maya would be her dying at that confrontation. because her child is now terrified of her. like she is grown but maya is essentially mad at this stage. evangeline has just seen her mother go from not knowing how to parent to becoming a good parent and someone she could confide in and a generally great parent to just going to check if she can do something about this one thing to it overtaking her life and her literally forgetting about her child. she goes full circle in the fact that the reason she even went to the army was for her to become distinguished to her parents. so for her to forget about her daughter because she was finding and overworking wizards to try to revive her wife even though april probably wouldnt want that and after haunting her for this long she just wants to rest in peace.

hmmm do i made maya have a happy ending or do i made her the villain.... it would make sense after aprils death that she thinks shes getting a second chance when she raises the child but i think i could make something interesting if i make her a villain...

that face when you accidentally fall for your target that you were supposed to assassinate because of her warcrimes because your technique for assassinating people is getting close to them and then people never suspect that it was you and usually this has worked because you have never developed feelings for anyone and have in general been very independent but she was different. you had never met anyone like her and usually you dont care for attention but damn it you would do anything to get her attention. then when you got to the stage where you usually would kill the target you just didnt. you went to kill your boss because you realized they didnt love you or care for you and they were just a millionaire that destroyed your empathy skills and every ounce of humanity you once had. you had to relearn how to love through your target who is an autistic warcriminal who has also not experienced the most normal upbringing. but she still taught you how you should be treated and how it is to be loved entirely for all parts of you. but you still cant bring yourself to tell her that the only reason you even got close to her was because you were supposed to assassinate her. she is allowed to see all of your other flaws but that one you will keep hidden until you die. and you're fine with that because you know you'll die before her because youre human and she's an elf.

that face when someone insults your wife and youre 0.2 seconds away from going to beat them up and you actually would and have done in the past when someone has insulted your partners but april does not care about other people as much as you do which is strange because you made that assumption at first but youre wrong she does not care about anyone except for you.

that face when you fall for the guy that has liked you since he first met you but you had a partner at the time and were so very determined not to fall for him even though your current partner was not the best one you just didnt feel like you deserved someone as nice as Lucas and at times he felt too nice. like the way that he admitted his feelings for you and told you that if you wanted him out of your life you just had to say the word and he would leave. then when he started telling you that your current partner maybe wasnt the nicest guy and that you should break up with him you got very defensive and drifted appart but in reality it was your partner that was distancing you from all of your friends and making you believe he was the only one that actually still loved you. then one night when he tried to steal your soul lucas came back to save the day and admitted he and xoco had been keeping an eye on you because xoco knew your partner was a demon but didnt know how to break it to you. after that whole thing was dealt with it even took some time to develop feelings for him and just to let yourself love him because you still felt like you didnt deserve him. he had almost given up hope but was so glad that you asked him if he wanted to pursue a romantic relationship instead of the platonic one you were already in. it wasnt one of those "if you wait she will have feelings for you one day" type of situations, it was a "he had feelings for her and at first only liked the idea of her but the more he got to know her the more he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her, he didnt care if that was in a platonic or romantic way but he wanted her to have the best life she could get" type of situations. but it was not what you intended and now you're mad about it like youre mad about a lot of stuff in your life.

basically a rule of thumb with the “their lover/spouse died and they’re sad about it” as a villain backstory trope is like, if it was a relationship between a man and a woman then it sucks and is boring and lazy writing and also probably misogynistic if it was the woman who died solely so the man could be sad about it. but if it was a gay relationship then it is one of the most heartbreaking and visceral motives you could possibly give a villain and also it means everything they do is ok
