Rick de-aged himself to 27 in Fear No Mort (which has been presumed relatively canon in terms of Rick and Diane’s relationship) meaning he was around 27 years old when his Diane and Beth died.

The Beths de-aged themselves to 10 and looked identical to the Beth in the flashback in The Rickshank Redemption, meaning Rick’s original Beth was probably around 10 years old when she died.

That would put Rick at about 17 years old when Beth was born… The same age Beth was when she had Summer.

‘That’s how teenage pregnancy happens, my friend!’ makes a lot more sense now.

Lycaenops

Scientific name: Lycaenops ornatus Diet: Small animals Projected natural lifespan: 20 years Length: 1 meter (3 feet) Weight: 15 kg (33 lbs) Locality: Eastern, Northern and Western Cape, South Africa (Beaufort Group); 260-251 Ma Exhibit: Synapsid Alley

About At only a meter long, Lycaenops is a rather small Gorgonopsian. It’s also our only one so far. Its skull is long, slender, and boxy, with enlarged canine teeth. Its body is elongate, with relatively short limbs positioned directly under the body, like modern mammals. A predatory animal, Lycaenops was fairly common in late Permian South Africa.

At Huxley We have three Lycaenops: David, Freddie, and Elton. They can be found in the Synapsid Alley exhibit.

Notable Behavior The Lycaenops are certainly more tolerant of each other than the Coelophysis are. The three of them eat, rest, and play together. Elton spends more time to himself than the other two, though. The trio are fairly shy, and hide themselves in the foliage of the exhibit when lots of people are around. They’re most active in the early morning and in the evening.

Lycaenops are fine-tuned predators. They have a particularly good sense of smell; they can identify each other by scent alone. Though Lycaenops doesn’t have the complex pack hunting of modern mammals, they will mob-hunt in simulated hunts. They lack the chewing teeth of modern carnivorous mammals, though, so we have to feed them things that they can swallow whole. Mostly rodents.

Geneticist Notes David comes from a different batch from Freddie and Elton. Due to a genetic quirk, his respiratory system isn’t as strong as the others, and he’s prone to occasional respiratory inflammation. The veterinary department has developed an oral anti-inflammatory medication to keep it in control.

Keeper Notes Although their ears aren’t as developed as those of modern mammals (they don’t have an ear canal), they do respond well to verbal training commands.
