#this was.... okay#kind of shocked that the estate approved this tbh#like it's not *bad* but it's also not excellent and i personally think shirley jackson's legacy deserves excellence#(see mike flanagan's work for reference)#also the characters were all kind of annoying but in vastly different ways#it felt like the author didn't know who they were exactly#anyway not a terrible read but don't go in with jackson-high expectations#bookblr#december 2023

Full disclosure, I could not finish this book, but I did take this aesthetically pleasing photo of my breakfast, lol
#but GOD the book was miserable and i couldn't get past the first 50 or so pages#it read like Lena Dunham trying to do The Secret History and it just was not for me#august 2023
