"Willy Wonka"
6x6 Oil on Panel, black floater frame
$225
Johnny Depp was the best Willy Wonka, you say?
"You Lose! You get nothing! Good Day Sir!"
(In case it isn't obvious, during the Johnny Depp vs Amber Heard trial, I was Team Gene Wilder.)
Starting Dec 1, over sixty artists* will drop a mini painting each day, until December 25th for our annual "25 Days of Minis" show.
On Sep 28th, we will have a one day sale of BONUS MINIS! (You might want to hop online just after midnight (ET), because these tend to sell fast!). If you want Willy Wonka, check back then, and also, sign up for my email newsletter to get early sneak peeks of what I'll have available throughout the show. (Link in bio). And don't forget to sign up on www.25daysofminis.com for their newsletter to see work from ALL the artists, right in your inbox each day in December. Follow: @25daysofminis
*When I first typed this, autocorrect thought I wanted it to say "sexy artists" instead of sixty artists. Looks like autocorrect is feeling frisky today.
Frigid anal cucumber. OMG! I MEAN "FRIGGIN AUTOCORRECT" !

Many thanks to @mybelair62 on Tumblr for allowing me to use their photo as a reference. This looks like it was taken in the late 50s? Back when wearing grannie panties counted as bikini bottoms and you didn't have to suffer from a thong wedgie to look good on the boardwalk. I guess the 1950s weren't all bad.
The subject of this photo looks like she never eats funfetti cake. I, on the other hand, look like I don’t own a mirror. Thankfully now, in my mid-fifties, I have the body of a beer-drinker half that age. #winning :-)

6x6 oil on panel, black floater frame $195
Title: Maude
This painting will be available at midnight tonight, when we launch the new "25 Days of Minis" site. (link in bio)
You'll get to meet the artists participating in the show this December...
AND...
We are hosting a one-day bonus minis show tomorrow -- each artist has uploaded one bonus mini to the site and it will be available beginning at 12:01am through 11:59pm ET on Aug. 25th.
Can't wait to show you what we've been up to!
My BONUS MINI:
The TV character, Maude, first appeared in "All in the Family" as Edith Bunkers no-nonsense cousin. I loved her the first time she was introduced. And apparently, so did the show runners, because they gave her a spin-off series. With a sharp-tongue and biting wit, Maude changed the way women were portrayed on TV ... no longer simply a meek and subservient housewife, Maude was as an equal partner in her marriage. How refreshing.
Of course it was Bea Arthur who brought this character to life, and for any of you younger viewers, you'll know her as Dorothy Zbornak, from "The Golden Girls", another hilarious, and strong female character.
And did you know that during World War II, Bea enlisted as one of the first members of the United States Marine Corps Women's Reserve in 1943? She was a badass off-screen as well as on. God Bless Bea Arthur.

24x36 oil on board.
"Coney Island Cowboys"
While scouring the interwebz for early color photos, I came across this image, and HAD to paint it. The structure in the background is the Parachute ride on Coney Island. My grandfather used to paint that thing!
Back in the late 40s to early 60s,  Grandpa had a painting contracting business, and one of his clients was the Steeplechase Park, (amusement park on Coney Island, New York). After school, my dad often helped paint all the buildings and rides in the park.
And they DEFINITELY used all the latest government regulated safety equipment.
And since there WAS NO government regulated safety equipment, Grandpa saved a lot of money. Yanno ... On safety equipment. (And thank goodness, because those race horses and card games weren't going to bet on themselves).
The original reference photo was used with permission from the Ruth Orkin Photo Archive. Many thanks to @ruthorkinphoto  The photo was taken on Coney Island during the making of the film “Little Fugitive” (1953) which Orkin made with her husband Morris Engel. Ms. Orkin was an inspiring woman and an award-winning photojournalist & filmmaker. She worked for all the major magazines in 1940s (impressive). According to Google, she'd be 100 years old this year. Check out the original photo (and others) on her site:
