Aaliyah's eyes looked all over the self with everything the town had offered for baby supplies. Diapers, a bit of formula, blankets, clothes, & more. It was more than she'd seen. She grabbed a few diapers of different kinds. She even grabbed some food items, wondering if Kiyana & Aurelia would eat them. They were both picky. "I might need to make a small list for them." She needed a few things but didn't want to say it out loud.

She shrugged at his words & let out a small laugh. "I'm used to cleaning up after babies." She nods towards the twins. "You're looking at numbers two & three."

"Well, that's the good part about being in Redwood -- you've got your friendly neighbourhood raiders to go out and get any of the things that you might really need." Ike trotted around Aaliyah when she brought her stroller to a stop at the shelf where the baby things were, leaning up against it so he could watch her sort through the offerings. "They make all kinds of fancy reusable ones," he said conversationally. "We were able to find that kind on some of the raids, with the outer..." he jabbed a finger at one of the variety he was referring to, "...shells? So you just have to switch out the inner lining when it gets soiled."

One of the babies cooed suddenly and Ike smiled down at the infant. "No such thing as a laundry service when it comes to washing up the babyshit, though," he said, jovially enough since it wasn't like he had to deal with it. "You could probably trade with somebody in town to get them to take the job, if you really wanted. People love spending time with babies."

Aaliyah had a long day. The bags under her eyes were evident. The twins had kept her up, making her sleep impossible. Aris, on the other hand, was able to sleep just fine. His room's walls were slightly thick enough to block out their low-level crying. Their mother wasn't so lucky. And it'd been a day at the clinic. Not too many pets but enough necessary tasks that took longer than she'd expected.

When she opened the daycare door, she yawned but covered it with her mouth. It wasn't hard for the woman to spot Aris, who was talking to Lucy. She walked over & forced the corners of her lips up. She was tired & wanted nothing but sleep. Hearing the twins were asleep made her hope they would stay that way the rest of the night. Aaliyah turned to Aris & nodded towards the door. "Go get your sisters, will you?" He nodded & sauntered to the room next door. She turns towards Lucy again. "Thank you for watching them. Were they easy on you?"

"...and, frankly speaking, I don't trust the littles to keep their hands away." Shit, Lucy didn't trust adults to keep their hands clear of exothermic reactions. Didn't have the supplies either way, but Aris didn't need to know that. In Clackamas, the older Bells always did their best to hide the lacking from the littler kids as long as possible. In the lab, they'd improvised the fuck out of what they had to work with.

They spotted his mama hovering, and waved her in. "Hey, welcome back!" A last nod to her son and Lucy left him to meet the mama bear. "The littles are a door over, snoozing away and probably loading up a surprise for you. Want I should get them or do you have a minute for jawing?" All the kids kept a person hopping, but checking in with the teacher was - supposedly - helpful.

The cat's meow was a cute chime to the veternarian. She chuckled softly. She gave them both a wave, small smile still on her face. "Nice to meet you both." She listened closely to Orion about Cat's recent behavior. On a side note, she'd found it humorous when owners named their pets after their actual name or a different animal name altogether.

"Could be a few things but I'm sure it's nothing major," Aaliyah reassured. She walked towards the table and patted it softly. "You can place him here." She turned to sanitize her hands. "Has he been throwing up at all? Isolating more? Biting more?" She started. "Any different behavior?"

"Hello." Orion's said, gaze habitually but attentively trailing the insides of the new space, before it settled on the smiling woman in front of him. As if to chime in, Cat meowed in his arms, high-pitched and long. Orion could feel the feline's heartbeat against the palm of his hand.The days where he'd been anxious in new environments like this were long past, but feeling the familiar life in his hands felt calming nontheless. Even if he was not here for a good reason.

"My name is Orion. I am one of the raiders." A small nod accompanied his customary greeting. New arrivals to Redwood were not infrequent, different people with different professions. Though he got to know most of them eventually due to his profession and Redwood's size, it was his first time meeting Dr. Amana. She hadn't been here very long.

"I am here because of Cat. He has not been eating well recently and he has gotten thinner. He has become lethargic too. Though he does not have a fever." Cat meowed again, voicing his annoyance at being carried and held anywhere, though made no attempt to struggle out of Orion's gentle but firm grasp.

Aaliyah got a good look at him & cleared her throat. She didn't necessarily feel embarrased over his reaction but hoped that he was simply joking & not being serious. "Oh..well..." She looked him up & down again. "I mean...you do look like you'd have experience with a diaper change or two," she muttered. She watched him babble at her babies & was at least relieved that he appeared to be friendly with them. She nodded in understand, seeing as how she was right. He had at least changed one or two. But it sounded like he was the curious, or invasive, type that would ask her a load of questions.

She looked at the direction he pointed in & nodded, immediately pushing the baby carrier in that very direction. Aaliyah noticed he was following after his questions & then shook her head. "Whatever works," she said softly. "I feel lucky if I can find a good pair of diapers now these days," she mumbled.

"Is this 'cause I look like a grandpa who's changed a diaper or eighteen over the years?" Ike chortled, bending down storklike to take a peek at the babies, making a wide-eyed startled face at them and cooing some gibberish with a wobble of his long fingers before straightening back up again. "As it so happens, I have changed a bunch of diapers, but none belonging to any young'uns of my own. Not that it makes any difference to knowing where shit is in the supermarket. I know that out of plain being in everyone's business."

Ike craned around in a few directions, then pointed off to one side of the supermarket, away from the fresh food items that were always out for people to choose from. "I'd say over there. That's where they keep anything that's more in line with personal hygiene." He started to amble in that direction, clearly feeling involved in this venture now. "No objections to cloth, I hope? Last time we found a pack of Huggies the cotton wadding junk in them was basically powder!"

The Amana family had only been in Redwood for a week. But in that week, Aaliyah had mostly stayed inside besides walking with Aris to the school & back to her home with the twins. It wasn't that far of a walk so it wasn't hard to go back & forth. She barely ventured out & strayed from her routine. It wasn't far from the playground so she had no issue bringing the twins to the swings & gently swinging them back & forth as she sung to them.

After a trip to the playground, she wanted to feed Aurelia & Kiyana, but when she got home she realized she was way too short on diapers. Way too short, meaning she was out. The clock was ticking on when they'd need more & that was only maybe an hour, including the time she had to breastfeed each twin individually. Aaliyah ran her hands across her face before pulling her top down & beginning the feeding process.

It took longer than expected & now she only had maybe 15 minutes before the twins needed a change. She quickly dressed herself & the twins, putting them in their stroller & walking as quick as she could to the supermarket. But when she got there, she realized she didn't know where anything was. "Excuse me," she says to the nearest person. "Can you show me where the diapers are?"

It'd been Aaliyah's first day as the veterinarian in Redwood. She had taken whatever time she could adjusting to the new routine, but it was hardly any attempt. For the most part, she stayed inside, besides letting Aris outside to meet with the other kids his age & walking with him to the school. She'd taken the twins with her each time, and with how young they were, everyone was coming up to her to see the new family.

This time, she'd walked Aris to the school & the twins off to daycare. She didn't trust anyone to babysit Kiyana & Aurelia, not on their own. She didn't know or recognize a single soul in that town. And Aris had already made his decision, he wanted to stay. And dropping the twins off at the daycare was like when she dropped Aris off on his first day of pre-kindergarten. Tears in her eyes & throat clammed up, she couldn't only say weak goodbye's, 'mommy will see you later, okay?' & I love you's. She parted ways & sucked up the rest of her tears on the way to the veterinary office. There she settled in an hour before anyone was supposed to show up in order to familiarize herself with her new work area.

When she was ready, she had the assistant call for the first client. As they walked in, Aaliyah stood up, plastering the best small smile she could on her face. "Hi, I'm Dr. Amana. Who am I meeting today?"

It had always been Aaliyah & her twin brother Aiden. The two were inseparable & always understood one another. Call in twin intuition, but they knew when something was wrong with the other & almost exactly what the other could be thinking. They were each other's best friends. Always being there for each other because their parents fought a lot. Over money, affairs, things said at dinner, things said in public, what was done in public. Everything. Aaliyah & Aiden were a popular topic; their parents had different views on how to raise the twins. Their father was physical when it cames to punishments, which seemed to be over anything. It started when they were five. Shoves, twists of skin, slaps. Nothing that left too much of a mark for teachers & other caretakers to notice. Their mother took most of the beatings, but that didn't stop their father from taking his anger out on the children. 

One night, things turned for the worse. In a blind rage, their father murdered their mother. They were eight, hiding in their closet, hearing the whole thing. Their father, scared, took his children in the car & fled the state. The family was only able to hide for four months before they were spotted in a supermarket & stopped at their motel. Their father got 25 to life. After that, they were placed in foster care. The twins only had each other for so long before their relatives stepped in. Taken in by their aunt & uncle,  it seemed like life was going to be okay after that. 

It wasn't. They were ten when their aunt & uncle began arguing. The topic? Money & the twins. It was almost a repeat of life with their parents again. Their uncle was physical in punishments that seemed to be over nothing, but their aunt did nothing but watch. To try get away as the twins got older, they enrolled in activities. Aaliyah did cheerleading & track. But that didn't stop the abuse. Not until they were 18 & were able to go off to college. 

Aaliyah went to Virginia Tech University for Wildlife Conservation & Animal & Poultry Sciences. She loved it. Animals had been her calling. And in her mid 20s, she met her first husband & the father of her first child & son, Aris Angelos Amana. 

The night the virus reached Virginia & their family was Aaliyah's worst nightmare. Her husband was bitten & in attempt to get help, killed by a police officer. Aaliyah took her child & ran with fear as he chased after them but was eventually killed by zombies. She couldn't explain how she made it out of town alive with Aris but she did. She was lucky...grateful.

But they spent years far from civilization & anyone who wasn't going to eat them, turn them into monsters. They were lucky to find other groups, small ones mostly that got separated by groups or killed one way or another. Aaliyah & her son have many scars & memories to tell write an autobiography of everything they'd experienced. 

It'd been the last group she'd been with which resulted in her pregnancy of her twins, Kiyana Alheri Amana & Aurelia Kayla Amana. And it wasn't long, only five months, before she got separated from their father & only with her three children, that she ran into a Redwood survivor. She was lucky & grateful to be taken in. But Aaliyah has to adjust for the sake of her family, who seem to already feel safe in their new home.
