there will be a moment when you realize you are more grown up than your parents are. this is the loss of childhood, my love. it is when you’re standing in the kitchen and one of your parents is screaming about something and you recognize: you will let them win the fight not because you are wrong, but simply because you know that they will keep shouting unless you drop the subject. you expect them to have childish understandings of things. they will hold onto their concept of the world as if it was not a changing thing. they must be right, and they must be somehow more right than you, always, in everything. their idea of control is so necessary to who they are that you just let it go.
this is the moment. you are 11 or 17 or 21. and you realize that you’re more mature than they ever were.
and in some odd, sad way, this frees you. where they have stagnated, you continue.

As a white person, how can we help so dismantle white supremacy without taking the microphone from POC? Sorry if I sound ignorant for asking this I just want to help in any way I can because fuck white amerikkka
No you don’t sound ignorant at all, I’m very thankful that you want to learn and help.
Some steps you can take in helping fight racism…1. Listen to people of color. There are some traumas and issues you may never understand but it is important to listen, recognize, and believe them. 2. Amplify the voices of people of color. Share their posts, blasts their quotes, and help make their voices louder. 3. Stand up to your friends and family. There are a lot of white families that don’t have the best opinions about people of color and our white “allies” will stay silent. Don’t. Confront your uncle at the thanksgiving table. Make your visit to grandmas house uncomfortable. Teach that racist friend the truth or drop them. Silence is violence. 4. Take accountability. Know that even as an ally you do benefit from a system to bring down people of color. Recognize this and help others take accountability as well. 5. PROTEST. We need you out there in the streets with us. Sharing that one post on Facebook when one of us dies is not enough. Get involved in your local activist groups, non profits, etc. ask people of color in your community how you can help them.
If anyone would like to add anything please do.

Me, a woman of color: I hate this white female character because the white racist author wrote her with racist undertones. She is also a privileged character in a white society and she exercises that priveilge and racism on those less than her.
Some white girl: so you hate her just because she’s a blond white chick! So just because she is white and blond that makes her privilege??? You’re just sexist!
Like good lord I am so glad I left my old fandom I am getting tired of these white girls thinking I need their white opinion and I love how they automatically undermine my and other poc explanations and metas as to why said characters are racist just to avoid the discussion and admitting their own racism.

Hey comrade where's my white privilege? I wad told I automatically get it because my skin is white. I've been waiting for it to come in the mail along with a free 4 year scholarship, but it still hasn't come.
Don’t worry, you’ve had it this whole time.
Like when people don’t follow you around stores because they think you might steal something, not having to see your entire race generalised into fetishes on porn sites, not having to sit through endless racist jokes your friends make and you can’t say anything because you don’t want to be “that” person who can’t take a joke.
Dealing with constant waves of stereotypes to the point where people expect you to behave a certain way even on an emotional level and if you do you’re fulfilling a stereotype, having to deal with hateful slurs made and used to dehumanise you, having parts of your cultural heritage stolen and used out of context because someone wants to be “exotic”.
There are hundreds of ways you are already benefiting from this product, but in case you’re not sure, feel free to be pulled over by police officers and see if you get arrested for having a magazine about guns in the car, or shot for following orders, or shot for knowing your rights and refusing to follow orders that violate them, or just simply getting shot.
Believe me, your white skin is one product you never need a receipt on, it will benefit you every day in ways you won’t even realise and the best thing about our deluxe White Privilege package is that you won’t even have to see or acknowledge the ways you benefit. The deluxe package offers a smug assurance that your skin has never benefited you and that people with skin different to you are exaggerating their problems, it will also allow you quick access to Google searches to find that one time a person was maybe targeted for having white skin and use that as a defense against all criticism.
And in case of extreme emergencies just talk about “white racism in South Africa” and then try and get out of the conversation before anyone starts talking about historical context.
Please enjoy your White Privilege and feel free to contact customer service again any time you feel remotely slighted or want to know where your White Privilege was that time you were poor, or didn’t get into the college you wanted, or any other White Herrings you can think of.

You can still be racist and have black friends, kinda the same way a serial killer has friends that are still alive …

I don’t get people who try counter the BLM movement with the “look, I’m not racist, I have black friends” line.
If you have black friends then
WHY 👏🏻 AREN’T 👏🏼 YOU 👏🏽 FUCKING 👏🏾 WORRIED 👏🏿 ABOUT 👏🏿 YOUR 👏🏾 FRIENDS 👏🏽
I live in fear for my black friends.
I worry that my black Jewish friends will be stopped by the cops guarding our synagogues because they don’t “look Jewish” enough
I worry that two of my friends who are both black men in interracial marriages with biracial sons will be suspected of kidnapping their own children because their little boys have fairer complexions
I worry that my friends in STEM will be stopped by campus police on suspicion of breaking into the labs in which they are PhD students and lab managers
I worry that my friend who is an AD for various films and TV shows will get pulled over when she’s on a location shoot somewhere rural and get assaulted
I worry that the black librarians I work with won’t make it home if they run an evening program or work a late shift on the desk one night
Like, forget political ideology for a minute. If you aren’t worried about your black friends being victimized by police brutality then YOU ARE A BAD FUCKING FRIEND.

The Specials - Racist Friend has some good advice all of us should follow:
So if you know a racist who thinks he is your friend Now is the time, now is the time for your friendship to end Call yourself my friend? Now is the time to make up your mind, don’t try to pretend Be it your sister Be it your brother Be it your cousin or your uncle or your lover So if you are a racist Our friendship has got to end And if your friends are racists don’t pretend to be my friend

me @ a 'friend'
GO - Good Omf || BO - Bad Oomf
@//BO - remember when you told me how much you hated @//GO?? How I stopped being around her bc you were a clingy fucking bitch who was so mad that I can make friends and you can't? bc you have absolutely zero chill and try to make yourself seem more superior than everyone around you? And one of those ways was through racism, and making me feel like SHIT for my features, because they didn't fit Euro centric beauty standards
You made fun of my small eyes,
My skin tone,
My cheekbones,
My heritage,
You still do.
And the only reason why you never liked @//GO was because she stood up to you
You claimed it was 'reverse colorism' because she pointed out that you couldn't go up to people and talk to them like that because your skin is as pale as the post I'm writing this on. You were so mad that someone told you that you couldn't do whatever you want to the people you called 'friends'
"It's fine because we're friends"
Being 'friends' with me is n o t a pass to be racist. In fact, I'm pretty goddamn sure it's the opposite.
And for the two years I hung out with her, she had never ONCE out me down for it. In fact, she's always brought me up for how I look. She told me how my difference was a charm, and how I should be proud of it.
Unlike you.
In fact, a lot of people I've barely known don't give me this kind of discrimination either.
So next time you think of calling me your 'friend', if the reason why you're doing it is so that no one calls you racist, thing the fuck up again.
#don't interact#vaguing#go suck a dick suck a dick suck a motherfucking dick suck a diiiiick suck a huge or small dick

Quote
Of course I look angry all the time. My entire life I’ve been fighting a war. I am soaked in pain and sadness. The irony however, is that I’m not actually angry, I’m trying to learn how to be happy. And that in itself is a war…
