..Soooo I realised a couple of things:

1) between me and @scoobyben, this flat is absolutely jammed full of merch and detritus from nine years of Mechs

2) there are a bunch of people on Tumblr and the Discord (okay, especially the Discord) who didn’t find the Mechs until after the Kickstarters and everything who would love to see some of this stuff

Possibly new photos of the Mechanisms at the 2014 Nine Worlds Geek Fair, courtesy of their Facebook. Looking into trying to find recordings but it doesn’t look like it was recorded. According to the email list archive it was a performance of back-to-back OUATIS and UDAD.

It is a bifrost incident show, evidenced by this event listing that details the following:

The Mechanisms, an immortal band of space pirates, will be performing their fourth album, the BiFrost Incident, described as “a cocktail of music, myth and mayhem set aboard a locomotive shot at faster-than-light speeds through a man-made wormhole”.

but. but.

on the site, there are no shows listed in 2018.

the event listing does not have a date. or year. it does have a location. but whenever i search "victorian time travelers ball" i get other, DIFFERENT steampunk groups. none of whom had ANYTHING in 2018.

it perplexes me. it confounds me.

they were there. we have photo evidence. who are these three mystical steampunks. help.

Honestly I think a lot of the character stuff is kinda subtle unfortunately, but:

- live performances on YouTube have a lot of organic character interaction. I think that's kinda my main source of what they're like

- there is literature on the mechanisms website, that have some cool stories about the mechs

- Some songs, some of the Tales To Be Told songs especially, are about the mechanisms specifically and have good lore. I know you said you listen to the music though.

- the museum tour is also really cool, even though it doesn't have all of them

- honestly, a lot of stuff can also be gotten through wiki, tumblr posts, mechanisms tweets etc. Mechs stuff can get really obscure really quick so deep diving is almost nessecary

Someone please tell me how to get into the mechanisms. I listen to the music but absolutely do not know anything about the lore or the characters. Where do I start??
