Ocean Dragon AU

Aka the best thing to have come out of @fyrelordzuko 's atla discord so far

Why:

Gran Gran deserves better than fucking Pakku

Unce Iroh deserves a love interest

It’s canonically established that Iroh can fucking get it with the ladies

Gran gran gonna get a man who can woo her

What:

The new old people ship to show that you can find love even as a crusty old person:

Kanna (Gran Gran) x Uncle Iroh 

Ship names: Kanroh and Ocean Dragon 

Tales of Kanroh

Their first meeting has Kanna make a joke about how his Nephew certainly made an impression on the tribe when he first came

They have a lot of witty playful banter

Also a way too long courtship with way too much flirting

Iroh pulls out all the stops including horrible pickup lines

They drink tea and play pai sho together and go on cute dates and are wholesome

The New Jasmine Dragon opens on the south pole

Uncle Iroh dedicates songs to her on the tsungi horn during music night

Iroh constantly compares Kanna to the ocean/sea “wild and untameable, yet that is part of her beauty. She is as dangerous as she is giving and calming”

Kanna doesn’t see Iroh has the “fearsome dragon” but as a campfire/fireplace. Warming and nurturing. It provides, but if left unchecked it can become uncontrollable and encompassing

She also sees him as a literal campfire because firebenders run hot and what its nice for her old bones you young folk wouldnt understand

She makes him be the campfire because I assume in the south pole burning fuel is expensive so he just sits there holding out a fire for her to cook over and she nags at him to make it bigger/smaller

Their grandkids and nephew respectively are horrified at their shmoopyness

Sokka and Zuko especially are in PAIN but this aint about them

Zuko may be the new fire lord but even he cannot stop uncle iroh from wooing his new lady friend (iroh: ur not the firelord of the south pole are u?)

zuko and Sokka are actually supportive and help Kanna and Iroh once they realise how happy they are with each other 

They still think its kind of gross though

Tales of Necklace Carving

Iroh:

Iroh makes a PROPER NECKLACE FOR HER with an actual original design and not the fucking symbol of the water tribe what the fuck pakku

iroh is super philosophical in his design

Possible necklace designs:

a campfire but the flames turn into the ocean waves

a dragon swimming in the ocean to symbolise their union

Zuko joins him (because of course this has zukka this is the atla renaissance what did you expect)

Zuko has about 700 panic attacks while he carves because he’s terrified it won’t be good enough

irohs sitting there like "have some calming tea nephew" but he's actually also panicking and has gone through like 10 cups already

Aang joins them

they all drink way too much tea and it's just this huge mess

Design theme since all of these are marriages between different cultures: silk or the stone in the colour of the other nation?

Zuko:

As mentioned before: panic. The tea is only helping a little

zuko sits next to iroh’s philosophical designs like hhhhh boyfriend likes boomerang. 

He needs help with the design that’s just how it is. This man is not competent at this. Yes we’re bullying zuko as we should

Aang:

Would totally try to do kataras hair loopies

Sokka:

is like on the other side of the village making his own bethrotal necklace for zuko and it's literally just as bad as zukos cause dumbasses who carve each other bad necklaces stay together

would corner uncle iroh in a blind panic on 2 hours of sleep and ask him what a fire nation betrothal necklace is supposed to be like

Sokka tries to carve a turtle duck on zukos engagement necklace

The entire tribe can just hear muffled screams and curses from.the chief's igloo and the firelords place For like fucken five days or sth

Asking the family for permission

IMAGINE IROH ASKING SOKKA AND KATARA FOR THEIR PERMISSION TO MARRY KANNA THAT WOULD BE SO CUTE

And just imagine the sheer chaos of kanna having to ask zuko

She wouldn't ask she would just smile politely and inform him that she is marrying his uncle and theres nothing he can do to stop her

Hakoda and Iroh laughing their asses off that sokka and zuko are both trying to propose but are just struggling so fucking bad

ALSO SOKKA HAVING LIKE REGULAR TALKING SESSIONS WITH YUE DURING THE FULL MOON

AND WHEN ZUKKA GET TOGETHER ZUKO JOINS THEM ONCE AND SOKKA IS LIKE THIS IS MY BOYFRIEND I LOVE HIM VERY MUCH I HOPE YOU TWO GET ALONG

And at some point zuko asking the moon for permission on top of everyone else

And yue fucking appears to him in her full moon spirit glory

And is like you are stupid but you love him so go get him tiger

And zuko is just the most unsmooth and awkward and yue is like ah yes mister let's do an activity together has found his match finally

He’s very awkward

He just digs a hole

A very deep hole

And she just smiles and lets him

Maybe she makes him feel better abt it by telling him abt "do u wanna do an activity"

Zuko asking katara for permission and being so fucking scared about it

Katara approves. Except for how she will bloodbend him into the ocean if he hurts her brother. But that’s just common sense
