Castlevania has literally glorified r*pe and erased trauma

Too many people are going around saying Hector wanted what happened to him happen. He didn’t, he literally didn’t. He was imprisoned, r*aped, tortured, and manipulated. All of this was against his will and consent. Lenore isn’t a beautiful goddess, she is a r*pist and an abuser. Don’t defend her character, because there isn’t anything to defend.

And Alucard? Where to begin; he was taken advantage of and r*aped, and suddenly in season 4 the trauma he went through and is dealing with doesn’t matter or is acknowledged. It’s as if the physical and emotional agony he went through in season 3 never happened.

When you put something as sensitive, dark, and triggering as r*pe into a character’s arc only to immediately erase the trauma that character went through you should NEVER have put it there in the first place. Ever. When you write something as serious and sensitive as r*pe you have an immense responsibility to portray it in a way that doesn’t erase or belittle the trauma. Castlevania erased both Hector and Alucard’s trauma, there is no excuse for it.

It is also important to acknowledge that by writing it the way they did the Castlevania team triggered a lot of people, and erasing what happened in season 3 only made it worse. Lenore and Hector became a couple, and its as if Hector has never been r*ped and tortured by Lenore, or Alucard had never been taken advantage of and r*ped. That is extremely fucked up. Seeing so many people defend what happened is horrifying and infuriating. Because regardless if it is reality or fiction you should NEVER defend r*pe or abuse. The fact people have to spell this out is as disturbing as it is disappointing.

i read an amazing article by wannasworld and i decided to put together a small piece based on it. just a daily reminder to speak black women.

Lisa’s eyes watered when she saw all the scars on her baby girl’s face, those tired eyes. “Oh, oh my baby...my cub... I’m so sorry I left...” she started, shaking her head as her own tears flowed freely. “No...no, don’t apologize for that! It wasn’t your fault, you needed to find your clan! How could it ever be your fault...?!” Lisa would not allow her baby to feel any guilt for her death, ever. When Beastie clung to her and begged her not to leave them alone again, her heart shattered.

“I promise, I’m here. I won’t leave you again, I swear I won’t. I’ll never leave you and your brother again!”

A greatsword thudded against the ground, a dark figure clad in armor with a helmet that resembled a menacing face. The warrior's fists were clenched tightly, the claws of the gauntlets digging into flesh and dripping with blood. This person was angry and... terrified? But why? They had rushed over to this place as if summoned. Why had they come for Lisa?

Lisa watched the armored figure cautiously, not knowing what this warrior wanted. Especially with her, she couldn’t be recognizable in these peasant’s garments...could she?

“Who are you? Do you...need help?” the doctor asked, pausing at the sight of claws. Anger...terror...this felt...familiar to her. Lowering her hand away from her blade, she spoke. 

“Wait...are you...? Beastie, is that you in there?” if it wasn’t her daughter, surely the blood would make Vlad come running back.

“Yes, but it’s your home now. Maybe we’re alive again, but all we had was left to you. You have a right to it, and... I wasn’t there when you needed me most, to me that’s crime enough,” she told him, a guilt she couldn’t shake. Her baby needed her, how could she not feel horrible about it? Maybe it had been out of her control, but she still felt like it was her failure as a mother for leaving Adrian to deal with everything on his own. Vlad, on the other hand... “I have no intention of denying that, though. Driven mad or not, your father hurt you, proof of that is running right across your chest. It’s something he rightly feels guilty about, and he definitely owes you the world for that. I acknowledge he needed to be stopped, but he still had you. You needed him as much as you needed me, and he failed willfully. That’s not right, and penance he should pay for that.”

It was more than a relief to see these people had helped their baby boy as much as he’d helped them, that he was doing better. After all, she couldn’t expect things to have gone well while they were gone. “…I’d like to, if you’ll have us. We have much to make up to you, after all,” Vlad especially, but Lisa didn’t say that aloud. 

   ❝It was your home before it was mine, who would I be to deny you? Not that I would like to. You have nothing to make up to me. Nothing that happened to me was ever your fault, you tried to your best and others didn’t appreciate it. Now father on the other hand….❞

The stark contrast of cool metal on her warm palm was something else, a sensation she wasn’t familiar with as Vlad hadn’t used one. She smiled tearfully at her daughter, so overjoyed to see her precious cub again. The words the shadow beast murmured broke her heart, though. A soft gasp left her lips when Beastie collapsed to her knees, but she was swift and careful in removing her child’s helmet, leaning down to press a kiss to her daughter’s crown. Both hands rested on the beastwoman’s face, gentle and loving as she’d always touched her children.

“It’s alright, my cub. It’s all over now, you can rest. Mama’s here...” she cooed quietly, fingers running through dark locks soothingly as hot tears fell into them. “I love you so much, look at how you’ve grown...” how could Lisa be horrified at a change like that, when she was the wife of Dracula even though her husband had now left that title behind for good? Blood on Beastie’s hands meant nothing to her mother, especially since they had protected. She knew her cub, after all.

Lisa’s heart broke when the warrior flinched and looked away, crystal eyes full of worry and sadness.

“Oh, Beastie... my sweet little cub... it is me, I promise...” she spoke stepping towards the armored beast. “Papa and I don’t know how it happened, but we’re alive... I’m so sorry, sweetheart. I know it must’ve hurt so much...” she opened her arms to her daughter. “Peer into my memories, if you need to be sure...”

Your father doesn’t want to terrorize anyone unnecessarily,” she clarified, raising a brow at her son. “Because a vampire of towering stature absolutely isn’t going to scare a group of traumatized refugees who’ve been slaughtered left and right by night creatures and bad vampires alike.” Lisa prodded, understanding why he would think such things…but Vlad was her husband. She had to try to speak up for him.

   ❝These people aren’t witless and weak mother. They’ve survived on their own longer than they’ve been here with my aid. They can fight and their headwoman is a good leader, a man that’s a bit tall with a hood on isn’t going to terrify them. I doubt they’d even give him a second look. Don’t look down on them like that.❞

“What? No! Your father sensed you weren’t the only one here when we arrived, Adrian! We intended to come to the door together until he noticed there were other people here. There are graves, and tents! He’s not…he’s not afraid that you’d attack him, he knows you didn’t want any of this…!” Lisa tried to reassure him, pointing behind her. “He’s waiting just a little ways away, Adrian. I swear he doesn’t think you’d…” she spoke, but she couldn’t exactly deny that Vlad might be afraid of upsetting him. “…and even if he is reluctant, and just didn’t tell me…it’s only because of how guilty he feels for harming you in his rage,” her eyes too wandered to the scar Vlad left on their son’s chest.

   ❝The great Vlad Dracula Ţepeş scared of people who don’t even know what he looks like. Well if true he’s certainly grown a lot softer in the time he’s come back. Perhaps to an extreme.❞

   Who knew his father would one day be nervous to approach him even while obscuring himself. Truthfully while it was a bit funny it hurt as well. He knew it’s not something either of them wanted to do, who would want to kill their family that they loved dearly? But it was something that had to happen. If he was truly himself again then just as he had welcomed his mother he would welcome him.
