i am obsessed with overcompensating. weird take but i love the plot twist about miles being straight actually lol. it’ s not free, it’s not just deceptive, and it’s actually the first time I started to really understand Miles’ character. he was not, in fact, gay, but very very lonely and regretting his decision to go to an american college and benny was nice and his only friend. which is the most relatable and honest thing ever i think.

Overcompensating was surprising really good. I mostly (only) watched for Rish Shah, but it wasn't just some raunchy young adult dramedy. There was a lot of depth and exploration of being a young adult and navigating platonic and romantic relationships (gay and not gay), and just trying to figure out how it all fits into your life as a new adult. It also kinda led to the conclusion that no matter your age, you don't have to have anything figured out. Even the parents in their 50s admitted that they were figuring out who they are. People change constantly. The sooner you realize that, the happier you'll be. Also, so many random guest stars. Megan Fox, Kaia Gerber and Charlie XCX randomly appearing...

And 10/10 to the creators for not making Rish hide his Ms Marvel tattoo when it was so clearly visible. That is on Kamala Khan supremacy.

idc i thought overcompensating was so fun and good. but one thing that especially stood out to me was how well they portrayed grieving while in college. very relatable to me unfortunately, but it’s something i’ve never seen portrayed in media and there’s so many layers there amidst all the comedy. the woman that played carmen was so good at showing all those little microexpressions after the off handed comments people would make. also orphan slut will now forever be part of my vocabulary

Queering the Map - No Pride In Genocide

Actor Jonathan Joss was just murdered for being gay and married to a trans man. On the first day of pride 2025. He was best known for playing John Redcorn on King of the Hill. He was proudly indigenous, often playing indigenous roles. He was of Comanche and white mountain apache ancestry.

I had no idea he was gay but he was married to a man named Tristan Kern de Gonzales (on valentines day 2025!)

They lived in San Antonio Texas where his family is from and he grew up. He was 59.

In Janurary 2025 his home was burned down which made news. It killed some of his beloved dogs. He didnt elaborate beyond he believed it was arson (gofundme is still up and i suggest donating to help his funeral costs and his husband

As they weeped and mourned in shock, a neighbor, Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja, came out and aimed at de Gonzales…but Joss jumped in front of the bullet and was instantly killed.

Ceja, homophobia murdering coward, tried to take off but de Gonzales had called pigs who vaguely tried to do something. He was arrested and his bail set for $200k. Or as my sister said who the fuck sets bail for a murderer?

Jonathan Joss’ husband Tristan kern de Gonzales identifies as trans on his facebook page.

Which explains the ramp up of hate and why the murderer shot at de Gonzales (Joss pushed him out of the way). So this is also a transphobia related murder
