If there was any comfort to be found , when it came to starting life anew. It would be the many family faces. Among them his Lord , and his adored sister. The former he had heard , a good deal about. She had bested an opponent likely none ever thought she would. He approached with a brisk stride. His entire being radiating warmth. That typical grin , cheerful voice , and an enthusiastic wave. "LADY SAKURA , Congratulations on your victories!~" Volume control , was not his strong suit.
Sakura had well and truly thought that when the battlebetween houses had started, that she’d be able to get out quickly and make herway to the medical tent for a bit of recovering and a lot of helping otherstudents. Yet she found herself stuck in the Battle of the Eagle and Lion untilthe very end. She’d even managed to win all her battles – though one was on atechnicality, for sure. The first two fights had been awful – the second the worst of all – and nowthat the third had ended, so too did the pleasant feeling that came along withfacing someone like Sharena. It was like all at once, the seeds of guilt thathad been planted sprouted, flourishing amidst all her other traumas. She’d hurt Petra so severely—honestly, more severely than she’d even thoughtherself capable of.Because of her desire to honor the huntress and a teeny need to make herbrother proud by defeating the man that defeated him, she’d gone overboard withmagic that she had no business using and risked burning down the whole fieldand the students with it.Caspar had let her know how badly she’d mucked that up—could have even ended uphurting people who weren’t even involved in the battle. H-how was she supposedto have known that it was a major growing field for the Empire?! …No…even if itwasn’t, there was no excuse for getting so out of hand…H-how was she supposed to look anyone from the Black Eagles in the eye aftershe’d been so reckless--The voice shouting her name snapped her out of her thoughts, though given thestate of mess she was in – the mud, the leaves, the branches, the….blood – she wasactually surprised anyone would have noticed her at all. But someone callingher Lady Sakura…She didn’t really need to question it, as the swordsman madehimself very known to her almost immediately.“H….Hinata? Y…You’re here???” She should have been happy to see him, but therewas stress underlying her expression. How had he found out about her fightsalready??? H-he must have thought she was awful….

Something catches her attention. It’s the slight spark of excitement in Sakura’s eyes. Lips purse together before she smiles. Sakura’s having fun, so should she! And—
Sharena rolls to dodge. 6. Failure. .5 HP remains.
“Yeow!” She yelps as staff pieces whap her shoulders, but it doesn’t deter her. Smile remains when she lets out a hearty laugh. “Good one, Sakura! First hit!”
She giggles, and staff spins. “My turn,” she sing-songs.
Sharena rolls to attack. 3. Predicted damage: 1
The end of her lance goes to jab Sakura in the stomach.
Rather than the guilt she’d normally feel after landing a hit, Sharena’s reaction…earns a smile from Sakura in turn. Shy but certainly sincere. Every time she’s seen her siblings training, they’ve always looked so…grim. Serious and sometimes scary. She’d need to ask Sharena how she could keep such a bright demeanor even when practicing for war. Maybe Sakura had been coloring all of these battles with the filter of her memories, rather than seeing them for what they really were?
Dodge roll: 7 – Success (barely). HP left: 1.
She’s saved from that jab by, unlikely enough, a bit of the mud that the lancer had shaken off earlier—Sakura’s foot lands and slips out from under her, sending her onto her behind as the lance-turned-staff wooshes over her head. Laughing at her own clumsiness, Sakura is still attentive enough to understand that Sharena will be ready to strike again before she’ll be able to get back onto her feet.
Attack roll: 4 – normal damage.
Which is why she attempts to hook her foot at the blonde’s ankle and pull her off balance enough to have her join the rosette in the mud.
(Glass HP 1|Attack roll: 13 - critical if it lands.) This is a mock battle. But the injuries and exhaustion Sakura feels as she encounters another opponent are very real. Maybe she’s sheltered so she’s not used to how these things are meant to go, but she’s not happy to still be in it. Resting her staff against her shoulder, she lifts and lines up her shot with a training bow—having replaced the tip with a thickly padded end for safety. It’llstillsmartifitnailssomeonethough. P l i n g.
The battle is coming to a close.
Sharena stayed longer than she intended to in the medical tent—despite not knowing these versions of her Heroes, she still wanted to know they were all right—and by the time she leaves the tent and walks onto Gronder field, charred and burned from several fires, round three has begun.
Training lance in hand, she huffs. She expected some kind of fight immediately, but it seems everyone is occupied. She turns, and just in time, to see an arrow whizzing towards her.
Sharena rolls to dodge. 19. Success!
She side steps, almost casually, and looks in the direction it came from. It takes all her willpower to not cry out in joy and excitement when she sees Sakura wielding a bow. (Kiran has spoken so fondly of how lovely she looked in Queen Mikoto’s outfit, wielding a yumi just as she had.) But she manages, hand goes to cover her mouth before she can squeal, while she reminds herself repeatedly that this Sakura doesn’t know her.
After a deep breath, she trots over to Sakura, hair flowing and bouncing behind her with every step she takes, and says, “Hey, Sakura! You almost had me there!” She pauses when she stops in front of her, lips pulled into a cheerful smile. “Let’s do our best!”
Sharena rolls to attack. 6. Predicted damage: 1
She takes half a step back and then sweeps the lance in an arc at Sakura’s legs. She wants to throw the healer off balance. Maybe then they could end the fight quickly.

fenrena:
She’s broke a staff several other times? Wowza! Maybe if she kept a close eye on the other Sakuras, she’d also see them break their staffs. Actually, maybe that’s not a good idea. Kiran would be upset if he kept having to buy her expensive staves. (But maybe just once was okay.)
Sharena rolls to dodge. 15. Success! 2 HP remaining.
“Not at all,” she chirps, side stepping away from the dodge. Staff swings out and towards the back of her legs. Third time—fourth time?—is the charm!
Sharena rolls to attack. 1. Predicted damage: 1
She’s glad that things seem to have settled down again. Well…as much as a match like this can settle down. No more hurt feelings, at least! She does want to be friends with Sharena after this whole battle is over, after all. I-if she can help it, at least.
Dodge roll: 10 – Success. HP left: 1. Attack roll: 18 – critical if it lands.
Though she is quick to hop over that lance as it swings to sweep her off of her feet, she does make two simultaneous downward strikes at the blonde’s shoulders. She’d meant to boop her lightly on the head, but the descent from her hop throws her off a bit, clear by how her expression looks rather startled despite launching the attack herself.
(Glass HP 1|Attack roll: 13 - critical if it lands.) This is a mock battle. But the injuries and exhaustion Sakura feels as she encounters another opponent are very real. “Y-yeah—it’s k-kind of embarrassing but it’s not um…n-not the first time?” There were actually several instances where Sakura had broken her staff – usually when she was mad, which made the fact she kept it in one piece during her battle against Linhardt all the more shocking – b-but she didn’t really want to divulge the embarrassing details to Sharena. Not when she’d just met her!
Dodge roll: 17 – Success. HP left: 1.
It’s a quick motion that she makes, almost like the twirl of a dancer as she guides that strike up and over her head--
Attack roll: 2 – normal damage.
--So that she can make an attempt to get close enough to swipe at the blonde’s sides. She has lost about half her range, after all! “S-so don’t worry about breaking the staff! I-if I can break it, a gentle breeze c-could probably break it too!”

“A-ah y-you…” Sakura tried to get the blonde’s attention before she went to such an extent, but she couldn’t help the soft smile that appeared on her lips when she saw how far she was willing to go to keep this match safe. Still, she needed to let her know that it wasn’t that big of a deal. N-not really anyhow.
Dodge roll: 11 – Success. HP left: 1.
But first, she had to hop back and out of the way to avoid getting booped on the hand. Even wrapped, that angle would have probably smarted quite a bit. “D-don’t worry about it too much. I t-think that training staffs are just a little flimsy.” She pivoted the two pieces and wiggled them a bit. “I b-broke one of these d-during the first round without a-anyone even hitting it.” Though she did intend to hit Sharena with them, lightly.
Attack roll: 16 – critical if it lands.
One strike high, towards the lancer’s shoulder, and the other lower, aimed for her solar plexus. No savagery but certainly an accuracy that would make Hinoka proud. A sparring match at heart—one that she hoped Sharena might still find some joy in!

Her own cheeks burn red as she realizes her mistake. Did Sharena really come into battle without shorts or leggings on under her skirt?? N-not that she could really judge or anything, but she guessed that someone as seemingly practiced in battle as her would have taken…precautions. Then again, the probably didn’t need to roll and hop around in panic like the rosette did. “I didn’t mean for it to be like—”
Dodge roll: 7 – Success (barely). HP Left: 1.
For the second time in this battle, Sakura’s staff is broken in two. Not because she was mad but because it had absorbed the force of the other’s strike, guiding it just far off the mark enough that the Golden Deer didn’t have to get personal experience in how a broken rib felt.
Attack roll: 19 – critical if it lands.
It’s an instinctual sort of reaction to the jarring sound of splintering wood, the burst of wind that’s aimed straight at Sharena’s middle in an effort to drive her back. There’s no intention to hurt her—just to defend the rosette with what little she has.
(Glass HP 1|Attack roll: 13 - critical if it lands.) This is a mock battle. But the injuries and exhaustion Sakura feels as she encounters another opponent are very real. Dodge roll: 9 – Success. HP Left: 1.
Thankfully, Sakura’s feverish hopping trying to get her boot back on before continuing the fight sees her out of the way of all that flying mud. But at the same time, would she have even noticed? She’s practically some kind of mud beast at this point. She’ll probably need several baths to get her hair back to its natural color. She does offer Sharena a handkerchief from the inside of Takumi’s jacket though – one that has been shockingly spared of the mess that’s overcome the rest of Hoshidan’s youngest. Retreating back a few steps, she waits for her opponent to be ready before casting again. It’s wind, so it’s fine, right? Caspar can’t possibly yell at her about magic if she keeps to wind like Linhardt had been attempting to do…..r-right? Guess she’d find out.
Attack roll: 17 – critical if it lands.
The gusts come from behind and beneath Sharena, intent to throw her off balance if she isn’t chucked a short distance into the air entirely. But not too high. Sakura isn’t trying to make a repeat of earlier’s match.
(Glass HP 1|Attack roll: 13 - critical if it lands.) This is a mock battle. But the injuries and exhaustion Sakura feels as she encounters another opponent are very real. Whaaaaat the heck!! That was so cool! How was she not supposed to be awestruck by that kind of display?? The threat of head trauma certainly helped.
Dodge roll: 7 – Success (barely). HP Left: 1.
She’s all the more confused when she’s offered back her staff, fingers closing around it and brain trying to process the odd turn of events this fight has taken. Sakura almost misses when Sharena winds up to knock her on the head and she practically throws herself onto the ground and rolls onto her feet just to avoid it. No more getting starstruck, Sakura!! Though, at the very least, she couldn’t get any dirtier than she already was after two previous battles.
Attack roll: 1 – normal damage.
It’s mostly accidental and a result of her sudden attempt to dodge—Sakura ends up losing a boot that arcs up into the sky towards the lancer. And it’s coupled with her embarrassed laughter over such a bad display. But who couldn’t laugh at something so silly happening?
(Glass HP 1|Attack roll: 13 - critical if it lands.) This is a mock battle. But the injuries and exhaustion Sakura feels as she encounters another opponent are very real. “Whoa…” It’s an impressive move and she can’t hide that she’s taken a bit off guard by the dodge. It’s cool and she wonders if Hinoka or Subaki know how to do that. Any thoughts are interrupted when she sees the incoming attack—from her own staff!
Dodge roll: 11 – Success. HP Left: 1. Attack roll: 16 – critical if it lands.
Hopping back, she mentally panics over the fact that she’s stuck in a vulnerable position. Again. Man, she was really bad at this. She looses a few arrows from her quiver—there isn’t enough time or room for her to use her bow, but using the still rushing gale, she uses the force to launch the practice arrows towards the lancer.
(Glass HP 1|Attack roll: 13 - critical if it lands.) This is a mock battle. But the injuries and exhaustion Sakura feels as she encounters another opponent are very real. It’s a different move than she’s ever seen in battle before and Sakura momentarily forgets that she’s in the middle of a fight. She actually finds herself giggling a bit. Though she quickly realizes her mistake.
Dodge roll: 9 – Success. HP Left: 1.
And she immediately lets go of her staff and drops to duck that swat. It’s not like when she’s facing Petra and sure the huntress was about to break her collarbones. But a smack to the head is a smack to the head and she doesn’t wanna go through that. Though she also isn’t filled with panic or anger over the attack like when she’d been fighting Linhardt. Was this what sparring was supposed to be like? Maybe she’d have to try doing it more, if that was the case. But first.
Attack roll: 5 – normal damage.
She said she wouldn’t use magic, but Sharena has her staff and she’s too close for her to even make an attempt to draw her bow – she’d need to ask Takumi for advice on close quartering with a bow later. So it’s a small gust that attempts to tangle up her opponent’s feet and send her sprawling.
(Glass HP 1|Attack roll: 13 - critical if it lands.) This is a mock battle. But the injuries and exhaustion Sakura feels as she encounters another opponent are very real. Sakura said that she wasn’t going to use magic. She had really meant that when she’d left the medical tent. But it’s almost instinctive – which is funny since she’s a novice at best. She gasps as her feet are suddenly no longer underneath her but before she can hit the ground and have the air knocked out of her, a gust cushions her fall and gives her enough of a boost to get back onto her feet.
Attack roll: 18 – critical if it lands.
She’s mimicking the Blue Lion’s move from earlier now it seems, a sharp jab with the end of her staff towards her uninjured side. Sakura hadn’t seen the fight personally – she was too busy trying to survive her fight with Petra – but the medical tent had plenty to say about Sharena and Edelgard’s matchup. And Sakura might have been in it to try to win, but she didn’t want to do more harm…….thanshe’dalreadydone.

“A-after the battle—”
Dodge roll: 20 – Success. HP left: 1.
Sakura hooks her training bow round Sharen’s wrist as she makes the strike, directing it away from where it would have definitely sent her straight back to the medical tent. She appreciates that these blows – even the strong ones – aren’t trying to put either one of them into early graves. She’s on edge after the earlier rounds, but this fight is doing….a surprisingly good job of calming her done. Oddly enough. “—we can both e-enjoy some soup and I’ll make t-tea too.”
Attack roll: 8 – critical if it lands.
This close, she tries her luck at sweeping her opponent off of her feet. Not in the romantic sense and now with her staff – she was pretty sure that by the time she got it situated in a way that she could actually use it, Sharena would’ve been set to block it. So she tried to sweep the leg.

She’s so nice and Sakura can’t help but think about that fact and her desire to get to know this person after the battle has ended. It’s a little odd to her how it seems the lancer is almost familiar with her, but her good nature and kindness even as they fight for their houses is…endearing, to say the least. “Um--! N-not to distract you b-but—”
Dodge roll: 12 – Success. HP left: 1.
Sakura drops low enough to duck the swing that’s made at her head, before beating a quick retreat to get some space between them. But she’s left something there – close enough for Sharena to reach it but far enough that she won’t rush forward and inadvertently punt it skyward. It’s a cannister whose top is securely sealed with a makeshift lid. She would have eaten it back in the medical tent, but she was sort of rushed out to make sure she was on the field before her next match. Pumpkin soup. “I kn-know now isn’t the best time, but if you’re hungry…” It wouldn’t take long she was sure. Though Sakura did keep her bow down and the arrow notched while she waited to see what Sharena would do. Once a decision had been made and the blonde had had time to prepare herself again, only then did she loose the padded arrow, aiming for the other’s middle—hoping to either catch her in the chest if she approached or in her knee if she retreated.
Attack roll: 17 – critical if it lands.

Sakura, skids to a stop right before the swing comes down, and she feels her heart clench for a second as she sees the lance cut through the air where she would have been if she’d kept going. But it’s only for a second as she aims a swing of her staff towards Sharena’s middle.
Attack roll: 4 – normal damage.
She doesn’t dislike Sharena, for what little she knows of her. And she can definitely sympathize with wanting to get this over with. Maybe that’s why there isn’t the same sense of desperation and – well, anger – in how she fights her compared to her last battle. But she doesn’t exactly want to lose either. Even if she looks like an idiot trying to use a staff like a lance against an actual lance user. If she’s going to get knocked out of this mock battle, she wants it to be because she couldn’t fight anymore!

She’s not a warrior and she can’t even pretend she’s close – especially when she’s using a staff like it’s a lance – but she knows what Hinoka and Subaki have taught her.
Dodge roll: 7 – Success (barely). HP left: 1
Which is just enough to tell her to block. It would have told her to dodge but she’s just gotten back onto her feet and she’d probably severely roll an ankle if she tied any sudden motions. She’s just scarcely able to raise her staff up in time to intercept that strike – but the force of it sends shockwaves down her arms and her right gave under the attack. But she’d bought herself just enough time to drop and roll out of the way.
Attack roll: 7 – critical if it lands.
She swipes her staff towards Sharena’s knees as she bolts to try to gain some room between them. She isn’t hoping for enough room to use her bow, but if she can get some breathing space where she doesn’t have to worry about getting nailed in the head by a lance, she’ll be happy.

What? She’s…so jovial about that greeting. Sakura can’t help but feeling a little silly that she’d immediately and instinctively defaulted into a guarded stance with her bow. She’s friendlier than even her big brother was when she dropped by the med tent. This is sort of what she’d expected the mock battle to be like and she feels a little bit of her tensions ease—just a teensy bit. It’s still the end of the battle and she’s come this far, she can’t just give up now. Well she can, but she’s trying not to. “R-right…you…you too…” Bowing her head, she takes a step back as well, and just as she’s hooked her bow over her shoulder, she has to scramble to avoid that sweep.
Dodge roll: 9 – Success. HP Left: 1.
There’s a game she played a few times in her childhood, that involved hopping over a pair of wooden sticks as they clacks around at your feet. And if you don’t hop in time, you’d be in for a nasty bruise. She knows that throbbing soreness and her body hops before she even realizes it.
Attack roll: 3 – normal damage.
And as if to discourage Sharena from taking advantage of her being off of her feet, she swings her staff at the blonde’s shoulder. It’s more of a defensive thing, clear by how the rosette returns to a defensive stance once her feet have found purchase on the ground again.
