XVI: The Tower
When I look into your eyes
I see the storm rage deep within
Unbothered by the wind and rain
By the distant thunder's din
Cast in shadows by the lightning
You're a star amidst the storm
You are ruin and calamity
Both given mortal form
You stand boldly in defiance
Of the heavens you now tread
Ever onwards, into madness
Hands and smile flecked with red
Is there room enough for two?
To share our vicious, little dance?
Do you fear the wicked drop ahead?
Do you even spare a glance?
I see everything so clearly
From this spire, I see all
From the knifepoint to the bloodshed
And how perilous the fall
Still I take your hand in mine, dear
Watch your eyes, so full of glee
Knowing how the story ends, dear
That you'll be the death of me

Can Love Bloom on a Baseball Field?
She rises through the rankings
Through the chalk and dust ahead
Balancing her strength and prowess
Blurs of white and blurs of red
Through her art, she seeks ascension
Mastery, her hard-fought goal
Her weapon, an extension
Of her body and her soul
It's the moment that I've waited for
She steps up to the plate
Flourishing her bat towards heaven
She comes swinging out the gate
There's a romance in her movements
As her bat completes it's arc
They all watch the ball with wonder
As it rockets past the park
Watch her ride atop the lightning
As she strides amidst the storm
Every strike, like cracking thunder
Her torrential, fluid form
All her actions, swift and measured
Her advance cannot be slowed
She's a work of art in motion
As her steps consume the road
But my eyes can't help but linger
Transfixed by her might and grace
Add me to her list of conquests
My heart stolen, like a base

A Man Who Loved Her
There was once a man who loved her
In an ugly, needy way
Every second, every hour
Every God forsaken day
There was once a man who loved her
Who was smitten from the start
Who would tear his chest back open
Just to offer up his heart
There was once a man who loved her
Who was scoured clean inside
Burned upon a hollow altar
But the fire there has died
There was once a man who loved her
Who knew love like that can't last
Though he clung to the inevitable
We left him in the past
There was once a man who loved her
In an ugly, needy way
But I couldn't stand what I'd become
So I threw that man away
There was once a time I loved her
But that spectre should have known
That no matter how he loved her
He would always be alone

The Woman in the Suit
Is she always dressed up to the nines?
Or is this her commute?
I always see her on the train
The woman in the suit
I think I'd like to talk to her
But alas, she leaves me mute
I'm always rendered speechless by
The woman in the suit
I wouldn't call her beautiful
I wouldn't call her cute
Handsome is the only word
For the woman in the suit
I don't mind what she does to me
I've got no shot to shoot
I'd rather sit here, left in awe
Of the woman in the suit
I wonder if she notices
Each day on her commute
The way she has me in her grasp
The woman in the suit

Siren of Sweet Sorrow's Song
Siren of Sweet Sorrow's Song
Where have you deigned to go?
Why have you forsaken me?
My muse, I need to know
What sins must I lay claim to?
What price is mine to pay?
What trespasses have drawn your ire?
Tell me what to say
I've given you my heart and hand
I've given you my soul
I've given everything I have
I've given you my whole
What worth is there to hours, spent
And lost amidst the tides?
My blood runs down the altar
While the priggish goddess hides
What reward is there for virtue
When it costs what matters most?
Still I crown this bloody sacrament
To satisfy my host
My works are writ in blood and tears
A monument to grief
The sanctity of sorrow kept
A crushing leitmotif
Still, I keep your sacrament
I tread this temple floor
I paint your altar red, my love
I need your song once more

The Deepest Cuts, We Make Ourselves
If you ask me, now, to hold you
If you look into my eyes
If you tell me you won't hurt me
I will settle for your lies
You aren't the things I wanted
But I think you're what I need
Every time you leave me wounded
Everytime you make me bleed
Until my anger drains from me
Until the bleeding's done
Until my tears have finally dried
Until it's course is run
You show me where I've faltered
And you mark it, clear, in red
If it wasn't for this kindness
I could very well be dead
So I'll take off all my armor
This resplendent, shining steel
And I'll trade the flesh for metal
So I never have to feel
I'll return once I am whole again
To hold you close, anew
So you can show me where I've faltered
So I can cut that part out too

Ribbon Girl
Golden ribbons wrap and weave
Golden ribbons shine
Golden ribbons, golden hair
Her golden eyes divine
Weave a wonder, Ribbon Girl
Weave a work of art
Ignore the silence in your chest
The stillness of your heart
Ribbon Girl, Miss Majesty
The burden that you bear
Weave the empty lie you live
The smile that you wear
Spin a story, Ribbon Girl
Hide your splitting seams
The waking world is a nightmare
So seek refuge in your dreams
Ribbon Girl, left all alone
Nowhere left to run
Pride will be the death of you
Ribbon Girl, undone
Ribbon Girl, brave valkyrie
You've truly done your best
Freed from the weight of a heavy heart
Lay your head to rest

The Palace Time Forgot
Urashima, show me
Tell me how the turtles dance
Did she have to win you over?
Did she have you at first glance?
Urashima Taro
Was the girl one of a kind?
Did she bargain for your soul
Or did the princess rob you blind?
Is she all you ever dreamed of
As you sailed along the shore?
Is she worth the things you left behind?
Or is she worth far more?
Do you blame her for the sorrow?
For the life she took away?
For your mother and your family?
The words you'll never say?
You know she didn't mean it
All she wanted was your love
So you hold her close forever
And forget your life above
Within your arms lie treasures
That your heart has surely sought
As you hold your Otohime
In the palace time forgot

A Question of Stature
She's a knight in shining armor
Surely wishing she was tall
While her dreams, the stuff of giants
It's her height that measures small
But she towers over others
In her words and in her deeds
When the little lady saunters forth
I'll follow where she leads
Though her might leaves no one wanting
Though her heart is greater still
Does the knight feel trepidation
At the shoes that she must fill?
Would her reach extend to heaven
If she stood as tall as me
Always reaching towards tomorrow
Far beyond what I can see
If I could reach beyond her grasp
Were heaven not so far away
I would pluck a star to offer her
To brighten up her day
Would she bathe amidst the starlight?
Join their ranks in grand designs?
Would she trifle with their shimmers
When she radiantly shines?
Would she rob the sun of wonder
And the moon, of mystery?
Would she steal the light of heaven
As she stole my heart from me
Would she even need to bother
When they're so beneath her light
Why bother looking at the heavens
When the knight burns far more bright
If I held the knight aloft
And helped her reach the stars above
Would she ever come back down
Or would I lose the one I love?

Asterios
Men are born and Monsters made
But somewhere in between
I have found myself forgotten
Rarely heard and never seen
In the silence of the stonework
In it's twisting, winding ways
I may barter with the Beast inside
To snatch a few more days
For the Man's a thing of reason
But within the Labyrinth's cold
There are secrets that the Creature
May see fit for me to hold
Though the endless walls are harrowing
And the Beast might fear the end
It's the Man who finds resolve
From deep inside that he can lend
In the end, the Labyrinth conquered
By the Beast and Boy as one
Will they call me Man or Monster
When my quest is finally done?

Rainfall on Camlann
Who's left to cry for Mordred
Stranger in his father's court
As the distant sun grows heavy
In the sky above the fort
Who's left to cry for Mordred
When the tale draws to its end
No one left to mourn the heartbreak
That was far too great to mend
Who's left to cry for Mordred
As he stumbles through the dead
As his world falls through his fingers
Hands so slick and stained in red
Who's left to cry for Mordred
On that lonesome Camlann Hill
Left shattered on the silent earth
His body, cold and still
Who's left to cry for Mordred
When, at last, his fight is done
As the curtain falls on Camelot
One last bow for Arthur's son

Void the Sky
Delving deeper into darkness
Past the threshold, you descend
Blindly chasing after shadows
The Beginning brings the end
At the core of your once-prison
At the center of it all
On the shoulders of the giants
In the shadow of the fall
In defiance of the judgement
Of you envy given form
You deny the verdict passed down
By the fury of the storm
Reignited by the fire
At the end, your core burns bright
As you stand to face the challenge
With your heart and soul alight
Carving through that distant skyline
Bringing all your might to bear
Soldiers swatted down like insects
No one left to hear their prayer
Reach beyond the grasp of heaven
On your wings of starlight, fly
Bathe the endless night in fire
Bare your fangs and void the sky

Bad End
I ask "Who dares to face me?"
As I stride onto the field
Nothing that they say could matter
I won't flinch and I won't yield
I ask "Who leaves here breathing?"
As the bottle leaves my hand
And it's voice rings out like shattered glass
"Only those left fit to stand"
I ask "Who dares defy me?"
To my needles and my chains
And they answer me in rattles
In the bruises, blood, and pains
I ask “Who stands triumphant?"
To my bat, before the swing
It replies in blood and shrapnel
In that wicked song we sing
I asked "Who dares to face me?"
Empty silence in my wake
You either claw your way to victory
Or watch your body break

Whittling Away
I've many flaws and facets
Filthy depths I've yet to dredge
I'll cut until you love me
Or until my blades lose edge
Why stop at things like vanity?
What else is fit to rend?
I'll cut until you love me
Or I meet a gruesome end
No matter what you ask of me
No matter what's at stake
I'll cut until you love me
Or until my scissors break
If you ask of me an altar, red
I needn't ponder why
I'll cut until you love me
Or until my wounds run dry
No need to chase reflections
I'll just hate the things I see
I'll cut until you love me
Or there's nothing left of me
In acts that mutilate the self
I'm beyond and far above
I'll cut until you love me
Or there's nothing left to love

The Passing of the Torch
I'm searching for a sunrise
In the endless winter skies
Wishing I could save the hero
As the girl before me cries
Another chance to see it through
Another ancient rite
Another day to suffer through
Another thankless fight
Who else could bear the burden
That you break yourself beneath?
Always ready for the bloodshed
When the sword escapes the sheath
You've given all you've got to give
And still you give them more
Like a tree deprived of branches
Ash wood stripped down to its core
What reward is there for virtue
When it costs you everything?
Be you child of the prophecy
Or once and future king
Still you rise to meet the challenge
Tooth and nail, amidst the mud
As you bleed in endless service
To those unworthy of that blood
I'm searching for the setting sun
Across the winter sky
All us saviors beyond saving
As I watch that woman die

Blade of Progress
Sing, sweet blade of progress
As it parts a sea of skin
Searching out the imperfections
Left to fester deep within
Sing, sweet blade of progress
Cutting clean through fear and doubt
Leaving only perfect pieces
Peace within and peace without
Sing, sweet blade of progress
From our broken past, you save
Neatly butchering a dying world
To fit inside it's grave
Swing, sweet blade of progress
Down upon the obsolete
As the heads roll down the avenue
And bodies hit the street
Sing, sweet blade of progress
As we toil on ahead
Knowing others must come after
And carry onwards in our stead
Sing, sweet blade of progress
Leave us relics in the dust
Let them carry on our legacy
In the end, it's only just
Sing, sweet blade of progress
Of that long and lonesome rest
Knowing that our battles mattered
Knowing that we did our best
Sing, sweet blade of progress
Of the evils that we fought
Of the hell we spared the children
The tomorrow that we sought
