Terrorist Attacks and 9/11
As one of the most memorable dates in the modern world, September 11th, 2001 goes down in history as one of the most horrific events in the twenty-first century. On this day, terrorist attacks took place which shocked the world and led to vast innovation and globalization. The date is famously known as “nine-eleven” and is unforgettable due to the terrorist attacks led by al-Qaeda that destroyed the World Trade Centre. Without globalization, the horrific events that took place would have been impossible, but, this catastrophe created a more secure and globalized world. The radical attacks which happened nearly two decades ago were extremely rooted in globalization as a terrorist group used modern technologies to create calamity (Rasmussen, 2002). This terrorist group is known as al-Qaida, and they hijacked commercial airplanes to use as a weapon by crashing them into significant American buildings (Rasmussen, 2002). Globalization is evident through many examples in this catastrophe beginning with the terrorists using technology to communicate from different parts of the world (Desmond T. Berry, Jr. & Evan M. Kwarta, 2019). After the terrorists communicated and agreed to plan, they flew from different regions to organize a flight together (Desmond T. Berry, Jr. & Evan M. Kwarta, 2019). This led to the hijacking of an airplane and the rest is history. The uses of globalization throughout nine-eleven involve communication using modern technologies, and the use of an airplane which is one of the most innovative creations of contemporary life. I chose nine-eleven as an example of globalization as the events that took place would have never been possible without modern technologies and globalization (Rasmussen, 2002). Nine-eleven was possible through the use of modern technologies and innovations but, this led to a more globalized and safer world as it resulted in more security and a safer society. Ultimately, globalization allowed the preparation and completion of the terrorist attacks to take place on this historical day

The term globalization is redefined when thinking about traveling and tourism, allowing individuals from every part of the world to reach the same destinations within hours. Globalization is most prevalent in tourism as individuals use modern advancements like airplanes and cruise ships to reach desired destinations. Tourism also attracts individuals from every part of the world and brings them together in a specific destination. Individuals nowadays can place themselves in a different country and be able to communicate and adapt to a new way of living in a small period of time. This is something that previously would be very difficult as it wasn’t possible to travel efficiently, and there were severe language barriers. This is avoidable today with modern technology, and the use of apps to communicate with different languages. A modern example of tourism would include individuals traveling to Italy to visit historical monuments like the roman colosseum. A destination like this would annually attract millions of people worldwide to travel to a specific part of Rome. With the individuals all reaching the same destination, this allows the economy to flourish as there is constant money being spent by visitors. This is an example of interconnectivity as individuals from different geographical locations come together to share the same experience. Without globalization, touristy areas are severely decremented as there is no flow of income. Locals are not attracted to tourist destinations, leaving small businesses with no revenue. An example of this would be the effects covid-19 has had on Las Vegas, a city that relies on tourism for gambling, entertainment, and restaurants. As individuals could not travel, this resulted in a majority of people living in Las Vegas unemployed. Globalization is shown through tourism in a variety of ways including the use of modern technologies, connecting individuals around the world, and creating a shared experience for cultures and tourists. Without globalization, tourism would not be able to flourish, and individuals worldwide would suffer from not being interconnected with other countries.

When I think of globalization, instantly the thought of climate change comes to mind. A global problem that is affecting individuals in the modern world and will have major consequences for generations to come. Without globalization, climate change would never be thought of as a threat to society. Globalization enables individuals to manufacture products that emit greenhouse gasses, that are used in everyday life. Examples of mass polluting products include motorized vehicles, electricity, and factories. This blog post will examine the relation of globalization to climate change while focusing on some of the aftermaths of this global problem.
A topic that was mentioned this semester during lectures was the rapid wildfires that are taking place across California and Australia. As a result, this destroyed eighteen-million hectares of land that destroyed several residential areas. This is related to globalization because greenhouse gas emissions are changing temperatures in our climate, resulting in higher temperatures that can cause the wildfires in dry areas. Another example of a result of climate change is the melting of polar ice caps. This is caused by pollution raising the temperatures in the atmosphere, causing the climate to be too warm for ice to stay frozen. Although the wildfires and melting ice are very extreme circumstances of climate change, this is a borderless phenomenon that is affecting all areas of the world differently.
Climate change is a phenomenon that can be combatted if society works together to decrease the levels of pollution. Small changes like increasing the use of reusable items instead of plastic could have a great impact on the environment. The sooner we take action to decrease pollution rates, the better it will be for future generations. As someone who is still young, I would like to take part in a global impact to make a difference and allow future generations the chance to live in a green world.

As technology is advancing, there are many innovations which allow globalization to become a part of an individual’s everyday life. With different apps being developed frequently, one that has allowed interconnectivity from around the world is Zoom. The application zoom allows face-to-face conversations from any part of the world, emerging interconnectivity in its’ most conspicuous way. Predominantly, the recent use of this app has developed a platform to transform any room that you are in, to a classroom or an office.
Zoom has allowed individuals to be a part of an online network and be able to communicate at no cost. It has shown the working-class that it is not necessary to be in the office every day, and has innovated the future of occupations. Zoom has shown the world that it does not need to be at a standstill during a pandemic, as it allows communication to take place without risk. As there is currently a limitation on the number of individuals allowed in an enclosed area, schooling would not be permitted as there are hundreds of students in a single lecture hall. With zoom, modern complications became a thing of the past as this software program hosts university lectures, tutorials, and anything in between. This application is an evident example of interconnectivity as it allows students to finish their degree, even if they are not residing in the country. Zoom also demonstrates equality as it allows individuals to choose their background while speaking to others. This creates cohesion as users of the app do not have to worry about what their environment looks like as they can use an image in their background while talking to others.
I chose Zoom as it connects the most popular networking tool, and allows individuals to connect from all around the world with just a touch of a button. At the free price tag, this allows anyone who has the technology to communicate, remain being enrolled in school, and also pursue their occupation while feeling equal. Zoom innovates and redefines the ideology of interconnectivity and globalization.
