Hi! I got inspired to do a Turkish fold zine after seeing your awesome one! But how the heck did you fold that extra piece to create the little cap holding it closed? I cannot figure it out for the life of me.
ohhh THANK YOU for asking 😊 i'm so proud of the extra piece lmao, as far as i know this is Original Research:
basically, when you cut the page to be a square, take the extra strip, fold it in half, and then fold the edges inwards (using the turkish map folded square to measure how big you need it to be)... on the last step you want to tuck those extra flaps inside the pocket. i tried to make a bit of an origami step diagram but not sure how clear it is, let me know if any of it is confusing!!!

flipthrough of the moth book with new construction technique for longevity! didn't want to get into actual hardcover materials so sdlkfjdsf i'm using 80lb cardstock for the cover boards and strathmore toned tan paper (80lb text) from a sketchbook for the binding. i will have some these at sabf as well.
huuuuge shoutout to michael mcginnis on youtube for the bookbinding technique and spine measurements which worked like a charm.

continuing my research into "what is the most bullshit thing you can call a 'book'", i present: one sheet of paper and three pinback buttons.
pretty excited by these, i've wanted to do a turkish map fold zine for a while and the little case is cut from the same sheet of paper so the whole zine can be printed on one 8.5x11 page. i'll have these at seattle art book fair at washington hall next weekend!

@orion-my-rion Heya saw your tag and threw together some quick & dirty resources! Here's a link to a US letter (8.5" x 11") sized template for a "cassette-sized" (slightly smaller then 4" x 2.75") accordion zine.
If you just want to make some little accordion zines, all you need is to print that PDF, draw on it, and assemble per these instructions:
How I would recommend going about this if you actually want it to fit inside a cassette box:
Go to Goodwill and pick up an old cassette for like 50c
Print the blank PDF and assemble a test zine to put in your cassette* BEFORE sinking a lot of time into art! Printers have a lot of knobs, and this template is designed to be printed "full bleed" -- you might need to resize it for your specific printing situation
Adjust sizing of template as necessary (zooming/shrinking it, etc)
Once you have a comfortable sizing (fits nicely, easy to remove from the box, etc), you can make however many zines you want!
* Normal cassettes come with little pegs in them. You can remove these by heating an xacto knife on an open flame (stove burner, candle, etc) and cutting them off
Towards the end of last year/beginning of this year, a few friends and I did a little collab project: each person put together a small themed playlist then designed an accordion zine with one page for each song. The final "book" was a collection of zines packaged inside a clear cassette box.
It honestly came out AMAZING. There's a huge range of styles & they look so good as a set, I cannot emphasize enough how much everyone crushed it.
This is just a brief documentation post since it's an extremely high effort, limited edition project that only exists in physical form -- a concept I've been generally enamored by (as seen in the log zines, which I'm hoping to write up next).
Everyone got a copy of each zine so we ended up printing, folding, and assembling 255 accordion zines (a hands on lesson in exponential growth for me specifically), and then I designed a little bit of packaging for the boxes. Shoutout specifically to the MTG Cube Draft guys also looking for "cassette boxes with no pegs in them" for solving a super foreseeable packaging problem (cassettes have holes in them but paper zines/MTG cards do Not) that I did not foresee.
Some final detail shots, and then slkdfjsksf I put an edition number on the inside of each label as well, to give it that Art Book street cred:

Extremely fun! Cannot recommend enough grabbing some pals for a group art project!
