Ming He (Ye Huo) and Jia Ruo (Qing Lan), Part 1 of 3 (2, 3)
"I could have evaded your sword, but I didn’t. I was trying to give you a way out. My mother will never let any of you off, she'll do anything to destroy Sand Valley. But, Qing Lan-gege, you treated me differently. I know you were genuinely nice to me.”

Watched Star Wars VII, and here are my (very spoilery) thoughts:
1. I totally had flashbacks to the NJO series. Kylo Ren is so very reminiscent of Jacen Solo. I guess it doesn’t matter which universe it is, someone in the Skywalker clan must always turn to the dark side eh. That said, I don’t feel any sympathy for Kylo at all. His motivations, why he turned to the dark side, etc, were very unclear. And after what he did, I don’t see how he can be redeemed.
2. Unfortunately, they kept to the tradition of killing off an old mentor in the first film. I knew that was going to happen when Han confronted Kylo but it was still painful to watch. And Leia’s face when she sensed Han’s death! =(
3. Luke is a coward and I can’t believe he abandoned his sister like that.
4. No Jedi Leia, much to my disappointment. I very much wanted to at least see her wielding the Force to some degree. And I wonder if there’s going to be a confrontation between her and Kylo, and if she’ll use the Force then?
5. A huge thumbs up for having Rey be the Force-sensitive one out of the new characters though! I cheered when she finally took up the lightsaber and fought Kylo. Something tells me that’s not the last time they’ll face each other.
6. Not sure what role Rey’s parentage will play, but it’s certainly not the last we’ll see of who abandoned her and why, and what relation she is to the Skywalker clan (the resemblance to Natalie Portman is uncanny). Also, on the subject of NJO nostalgia? Rey is Jaina. <3
7. I have absolute no idea what the Republic is doing and why they had let the First Order grow so strong. I hope the sequels dwell more on that.
8. The camaraderie between Poe and Finn is awesome, I like how they instantly bonded with each other. Finn and Rey too. I’m just sad Poe and Rey didn’t meet, I suspect they’ll get along great and geek out about piloting, hah.
Ultimately I’m going to rate this as a solid attempt at reviving Star Wars. It’ll probably do the job of attracting new fans, and I’m not disappointed by it. I just think it wasn’t particularly spectacular and/or memorable. (And I hope I don’t get lynched for this, it’s just my small opinion and the box office records already proved the success of this film!) It’s just that, as someone who read (and loved) the EU, this film had some huge shoes to fill, and while the characters were likeable enough, I didn’t feel any sort of emotional resonance to the film, the plot, and the characters.
