The soul transmigrates from a vessel that no longer can contain it. In similar fashion, I am attempting to start fresh and provide my photos in a way that better presents to you my growth as a photographer. That being said, I will no longer be posting on this site. Note the name change of page to melondotblog.tumblr.com which was made to make way for me to transition to my new space and retain the same name of my original tumblr. This page will from now on only exist as an archive of things I've posted in the past. I hope you will all follow along on this journey by following the new patrickmelon.tumblr.com and experience some of my best and never before shared photographs.

hiii i really liked your "why the boondocks matter" post. i was wondering about the sources of your quotes. for the most part i agree with you. i think it's sad that a lot of people that i've read online seem to be missing the points on boondocks sighs.

Well I thank you for taking the time to look into my writing and I'm glad you enjoy my pictures as well. These were papers I wrote for a class on the Boondocks that addressed the social commentary and satire prevalent in the series. The class was unfortunately filled with people of color that took it for granted and only expected an easy grade because it was a class about a cartoon and the fact that we had an African-American professor. I take these race issues very seriously and in addition to the insight I gained from all of the Aaron McGruder interviews we were assigned to read as well as his wonderful show and comic strip, I learned that even African-Americans don't get it, not just some of the time, but quite frequently. All minorites have enormous roadblocks built up against us and instead of addressing them most blacks would rather look to the other side of the fence where the grass is greener instead of tending to their own gardens. I hope that my thoughts on the Boondocks will help you to gain a clearer understanding of your own identity as a Vietnamese-American.
