Hello, I am Karim from Gaza. I am 24 years old. I live with my father, mother, brother and sister. I feel ashamed when I ask for help, but I need to provide shelter and basic supplies for my family, and the weather has become cold and rainy. Please donate what you can and share this. Thank you to everyone who contributed to saving my family. 🍉🍉 https://gofund.me/70501154
Please donate to Karim's campaign, €6,677 of €50K has been donated so far. Even the smallest donations go a long way. Be sure to also spread the word!! 🍉

now more than ever, please vet gofundmes before you donate.
copy and paste descriptions into google to see if there are scam accounts reusing the same story, check to see if there are any images/updates on the fund with faces. go to the original blog, check if the post asking for help is only an hour old, or even less than that. refrain from donating if all it links to is a PayPal account, without any further confirmation of identity.
it’s horrible to say but it’s never been a better time for scam artists to exploit your generosity, when things seem so dire, and I’ve donated to campaigns before only to realise later that the entire story was stolen from an actual family in need. due diligence might take a few more minutes out of your day but at least you won’t be sending money to an opportunistic scumbag.

You can donate to the Palestine Children's Relief Fund for as little as $1.00.
Tumblr media
There is a fee you can choose to apply to cover processing.
Tumblr media
Which if you choose to do leaves you with a total of ~$1.35 (USD) depending on the type of card you have.
Tumblr media
PCRF has a score of 97% on Charity Navigator.
Adults and children alike are currently dying in Palestine due to starvation. (World Health Organization Link)
The Gaza Strip is one of two places in the entire world that is categorized as Phase 5 (the highest phase) on the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification scale.
So even if you think it isn't enough, remember that donating even as little as $1.35 helps! It's $1.35 they wouldn't have had otherwise. So donate if you can. 🇵🇸

for people who don’t know what’s happening in congo, here is a good thread explaining the abuse people of congo are experiencing daily.

if you care about palestine’s genocide, i believe you should care about congo’s genocide too.
since the thread is gone i’d recommend reading this instead: https://www.theguardian.com/global-development/2024/apr/11/rwanda-militias-drc-goma

What is this about the tumblr staff wanting to sell art data to midjourney?
An ex-colleague of mine mentioned yesterday that there may be contacts between Automattic and midjourney in that direction, but nothing is public yet and I don't have any more info. They probably won't have anything specific to share either, since they left the company weeks ago too. That being said:
I have no reason to doubt my ex-coworker word, they are a trustworthy person.
Tumblr's CEO has been absurdly enthusiastic (comically, even) about AI, and is a big fan of LLMs and 'AI' companies.
A deal with midjourney could solve tumblr financial issues (not the same company, but openAi is paying up to 5 million/year to news companies to use their content as training data... tumblr generates several orders of magnitude more content than any newspaper or any media company and it only would need a 20 to 30 million per year deal to be profitable)
So I don't have any extra info yet, but I'm keeping my ears open.

A History of the Democratic Republic of Congo… From IG - @redstreamnet — Did you know that the CIA once orchestrated the execution of Patrice Lumumba by a firing squad? On the 17th of January, 1961, Patrice Lumumba, the first democratically elected leader of the Congo, was executed by a firing squad following assassination plots concocted by the US and Belgian governments. Lumumba’s anti-imperialism and his vision of a united Congo made him an adversary of both Belgium and US imperialism. Although the CIA ordered his assassination, they weren’t able to carry it out themselves. Instead, Washington and Brussels secretly funnelled cash and aid to rival politicians who organized a coup and arrested Lumumba. He was then beaten, tortured, and killed. #BlackHistory #PanAfrican #AfricanHistory #AntiColonialism

Here is a link to his art for Palestine, which he says is free to use.
Here is also a link to donate to the PCRF.
