although I mostly make crochet plushies, I think I actually feel the proudest whenever I make something functional like this. I really wanted a wrist pincushion so I made one from a snap bracelet, a bit of cardboard, and of course lots of yarn! it even has little loops on it to hold my stitch markers :)

#crochet#reblog#Check this out!#LOVE IT <3 <3#Check out their patterns too their patterns are sooo cute

I just spent the last two weeks crocheting a Catan board as a birthday present for my friend. I’ve seen a lot of DIY Catan boards, but never a crocheted version that worked in the finer details of each resource tile.
I used this hexagon pattern from Tutsplus, doing only three rows of double crochet stitches. Then I did a cream border around each tile and handstitched each tile into the Catan island formation.
All the hills, roads, trees and other elements were crocheted freehand in basic amigurumi stitches. I have no pattern, but here’s the general gist of each element:
Forest: Pine trees are simple cones started with 4 scs into a magic circle. I varied the increases and rows to create each tree in a different size.
Pasture: Sheep were made with 4 scs in a magic ring. I then closed the ring and added 1 sc in black to create the head. The boulders were made with one bobble stitch crocheted into a chain stitch.
Hills: Each hill was created with a varied number of chain stitches. I then single crocheted around each chain length, varying in increases and rows to create different shapes.
Mountains: Each mountain was started with a varied number of scs in a magic loop. I freestyled a varying number of rows and increases. For the multiple peak mountains, I’d join several peaks together. Each snowy peak is just a few scs into a magic circle sewn over the top.
Field: Each wheat field is a small grouping of bobble stitches in short rows. On some fields I included boulders (see Pasture) and decidious trees, which were created with one bobble stitch sewn on top of one sc stitch.
Desert: The oasis is just a crocheted circle in a magic loop, varying in different stitches (sc, hdc, dc) to create a blob-type shape. I then crocheted around it in green to create the surrounding foliage.
After all the hexes were crocheted together, I then framed the island (2scs on edge, 2hdc, 4dc, 2tr on inside corner) and did two rounds of dcs. I also crocheted a large hex for the underside and sewed it to the island, which gave the board a nice solid finish.

OMG this is soo cool!!!

my crochet fidget cube is finally done! (pattern here) is it kind of misshapen? yes. does the stitching look a bit wonky? yes. do i give a shit? fuck no. it's fun to play with, and i love it in all its lumpy glory.
here's a video so you can see it in action!
[video description: me playing with the fidget cube pictured above. the video is filmed from above and only my hands and forearms are visible for the most part. i'm pulling on the cubes to make them form different shapes. end description]
@whirling-ghost and @th0tcrates tagging you here because you mentioned wanting to see the finished product in the replies on a previous post, hope that's okay :)

This can also be modified to twitter version easily. Tumblr version has 10 petals, Twitter version has 8 only. And check color is different.
1. Use white for check color.
2. Base Round 6, instead of adding any inc, just do 24 sc only. Round 7 instead of repeating 9 times, repeat 7 times only. Finish the rest of the stitches of this round in the same way.

Crocheted Important Blue Internet Checkmark. Because why the fuck not.
(Pattern under the cut)
Please note that this hasn't been tested, and I have very little experience writing down patterns. If you have problems or questions I'll try my best to help!
Yarn: I'm using mercerized cotton from my stash. The lighter blue is Lana Grossa Cotone, the darker a tiny leftover with the tag long since lost, but similar. Whatever material/weight of yarn you have laying around is fine though.
Hook: 2.5mm for me, but again, whatever you have and works with your yarn.
Instructions (ch = chain, sc = single crochet, dc = double crochet, tr = treble crochet, sl = slip stitch, sl tog = slip stitches together (insert hook in stitch, pull loop through, insert hook in next stitch while leaving 1st loop on hook, pull loop through stitch & through the loop still on the hook)
Base:
co 3 in a magic loop (3)
2sc in every stitch (6)
2sc in every stitch (12)
(sc, 2sc) x 6 (18)
(sc, sc, 2sc) x 6 (24)
(sc, sc, sc, 2sc) x 6 (30)
((dc, tr) in same stitch, (tr, dc) in same stitch, sc) x 9, (dc, tr) in same stitch, (tr, dc) in same stitch, slip last stitch. Break yarn & pull through
Check (you can just embroider this on, however, I suck at embroidery):
ch13, turn
sc in every stitch, ch1, turn
sl 2, sl 3 tog, sl 3 tog, sl 4, break yarn
sew check onto the base
sl 3 tog: People seem to have trouble w this, which is on me for not explaining it well. Here's what I did w pictures:

Start here
Insert hook in next stitch
Pull loop through, leave it on the hook
Insert hook in next stitch
Pull loop through, leave it on the hook. Hook now has 3 loops.
Pull the 3rd loop through the other 2

This is the finished stitch; basically, decrease 2 stitches 2x to create an angle.
Back (optional):
Repeat steps 1-6 of the base
fiddle in a safety pin like so:

3. sew it on the back of the base
4. Realize that despite your copious amount of Internet Clout, people still expect you to "pay taxes" and "make cars that don't explode". But at least you can ban the haters now!
#crochet#fiber art#reblog#lmao i need to make this#this is hilarious#Dunno maybe there’s someone who wanna make twitter version#:P

Crochet Bucket list
Yarn
Velvet Yarn - the stitches blend so well. Seems a very good choice if you prefer smaller product but still like blanket yarn’s look. But that also means it’s harder to see stitches. It probably suits faster and easier pattern.
Metallic Yarn (gold, silver, bronze) - Yellow simply can’t compete with gold when you wanna add sparkle onto Christmas projects. But why are they so hard to find in offline shops? None of the Michaels in my city has metallic yarn.
100% polyester yarn - I recently bought a skein and used in the clam project. (Link here, the white shell insides) it’s so fluffy and soft. The stitches blend better than acrylic or cotton. It also has the right amount of stretchiness.
Gradient Yarn - They are so so beautiful. Wouldn’t it be fun to make a rainbow roll poly? :D
Variegated Yarn - Planned Pooling looks like dark magic. But so, so much fun. When can I start?
Skill/Product
Tapestry Crochet - There are some classic painting patterns I’ve seen and they just look amazing. Besides, I really wanna crochet myself some gloves or scarves with more complex patterns.
Granny square - I can’t believe I still haven’t made any.
Reading chart - I recently got my hands on some Japanese and Mandarin ebook. The patterns inside are beautiful. But they are all written using charts. Need to learn that at some point.
(To be continued in the future)

I was giggling the whole time when I was making him 🤭
ComplicatedKnots’ echidna pattern is probably my favorite echidna/hedgehog pattern. It’s so quick and fun to do. I might make a hedgehog army. The pattern is included in this 12 animal patterns here.

That’s a great idea! Here are some of my thoughts.
Currently the pattern starts from a round of chain stitches, and then single stitches on back loop of the chain stitches, no turn, then single stitches on front loop of the chain stitches. That makes the start of the deep pocket in the mouth there. After that’s it’s just generic way of how people make amigurumi in rounds no turn.
So instead of that, double the chain stitches and slip stitch the start and end of chain stitches. And then single stitches on back loop only as people usually do, then you have an opening mouth to grab stuff from inside. :)
I would probably add an opening under the belly as well just so you could put stuff in easier. Simply make chain stitches and skip stitches, instead of making single stitches. Besides, there’s no color change in the belly so it would be easier to do.
My concerns are,
1. It’s really necessary to keep the yarn inside tidy and not tangled. I was lazy so I did yarn carrying over every two or three stitches after a while. XD This may cause problems if you are gonna put stuff inside. Carrying over yarn with every stitch is definitely recommended.
2. It’s just better to use sturdy and tougher yarn that holds shape better. I would recommend 100% acrylic. Cotton or cotton acrylic mix might be a bit soft and won’t hold the shape as good.

This might be the most intense color-changing stuff I’ve done so far. I never looked into tapestry vs intarsia techniques before this. Learnt something new.
The pattern is here on Etsy. As the designer TheKottonKaboodle mentioned, this is not a beginner pattern and can be a bit overwhelming if you are not used to change color.

btw I’ve found these stretches from the WAK blog very helpful when knitting a lot:
Plus make sure to take breaks regularly - and stop if anything starts to hurt!
especially with gift knitting I know it can be tempting to push through it for a deadline, but it’s really not worth causing long term injury. (And anyone knit-worthy should be understanding of that, imho.) Stay well :)
