we need to bring back gamefaqs. i don't wanna join your stupid discord. i don't wanna use your ugly shitty fandom wiki. i don't wanna have to dig through poorly-organzied reddit threads. we want bespoke ascii header art! we want plaintext documents and guides with minimal clutter that are properly indexed and easy to navigate!
#the yakuza games all have extremely exhaustive gamefaqs guides written by one guy#they arent plaintext but they absolutely carry the spirit of those original plaintext ascii-art-laden guides#extremely thorough and straightforward with some quips from the author here and there#and now after being spoiled by those any time i have to look something up from any other series i get a headache#fuck your stupid fandom wiki!!! your ai-generated seo-chasing article that doesn't actually have the info im looking for!!!!!#fuck your stupid youtube video with an intro telling me to smash that subscribe button that's longer than the actual informational content!#the moment there was money to be made from making guides for video games they were doomed#but god bless those herculean few who still write guides purely for the love of the game (literally)

characters who have genuinely good intentions and motivations and care about their friends/companions while also lying to those same people with nearly every breath are like playdough to me- you can squish and stretch and shape them infinitely bc the question of "where does the lying end" can be applied to so many things and go so many ways and has basically infinite answers, so every time im presented with such a character i feel like a dog that's been handed a bone bigger than its head

[redacted clair obscur spoilers] my beloved.#there are so many different flavors to it too. it can be 'character was originally just using the people around them#but developed an attachment to them and now doesnt know how to confess that without losing them so they just keep the lies going'#(or they develop that attachment but still plan to use their newfound friends anyway so the lying just gets harder and harder)#it can be 'character knows their friends and knows their reaction to hidden information would ultimately lead to a worse outcome#so they lie to keep that information hidden'#it can be 'there are dangerous forces at play where even knowledge of that fact puts a person at risk#so character lies to subtly shepherd their friends away from the danger without informing them of it'#or even as simple as 'character lies to protect their friends from distressing information (even if they arguably should know about it)'#its such a fun dynamic. esp when the lying really is motivated by their care and concern for their friends#bc like they care enough to go to such lengths for their friends' sake and willingly put their relationships to those same friends at risk#for the sake of securing a better outcome for them regardless of what it means for themselves#so they DO care- but at the same time that course of action bespeaks a lack of trust in those same friends#they dont trust that they can reach the desired outcome if their friends know the truth. they dont trust that they will do what is required#and in certain respects that's an inherently arrogant way of viewing one's friends- arguably thinking you know better than them#but oftentimes theyre right! and the only reason theyre able to realize that is *because* they know those friends so well#its just so neat. and thats only one facet of it- there are plenty of equally fascinating questions to play with#'when does the lying stop being purely for the sake of the goal/their friends and start being completely self-serving'#'how much do they lie to themselves about it all and how much are they aware of that'#i like good character writing in stories :)

friendly psa/reminder: get your prescriptions refilled on time, folks
#rambles#i have been getting my ass beat for 5 days straight now due to my failure to heed this advice#let a prescription lapse for like 3 days and my entire abdomen said 'ok. fuck you then' and has been nothing but pain since monday#like i thought itd be fine bc everything i looked up about what happens when you quit this particular drug said it was basically fine#maybe some headaches and some mood swings or w/e but not much more#and yknow. i can deal with that for a few days#did not even know all this bullshit was even a possibility until it started happening#and then i did some digging and found some reddit posts/comments of people describing my exact experience#if id known this was even a remote possibility i would not have let it happen!!! this fucking sucks!!! some of the worst pain of my life!!!#worse still is the fact that it's still beating my ass even though i got back on the drug in question yesterday#most likely bc its extended release so its taking a few days for my levels to normalize again#so until then i survive only by the grace of advil & tylenol's combined powers
