“Be to her, Persephone, All the things I might not be; Take her head upon your knee. She that was so proud and wild, Flippant, arrogant and free, She that had no need of me, Is a little lonely child Lost in Hell,—Persephone, Take her head upon your knee; Say to her, “My dear, my dear, It is not so dreadful here.”

I know, I just wanted to hear you say it. -sits beside him, leaning her head on his shoulder- Read it to me?
It’s not done. I can read you a different one.

What a wavy place for a writing station.
I have to check out different places to get into the mood.

I know, that’s why I chose to do some exploring today. What’re you writing?
You know what I’m writing.

Well, well, would you look at who stumbled into my part of town.
You usually don’t come over here. I thought I was safe.

You’re kind of the stupidest idea I’ve ever seen.
Because starting a war is quite possibly one of the stupidest ideas I’ve ever heard.

Why not?
Why exactly are you doing this?

Fine. I’ll remember that.
So this is a war you’re starting. Hm.
I’ll pass, sweetheart. As fun as it would be, I have to keep at least one foot on the path of the righteous.

The good guys.
Killing the good guys. Corrupting them at least.
Against whom?
And just what is my incentive here?

There’s a war coming. I want to know I can count on you.
Simple matter of alliance and I’ll be out of your hair.
You’re boring me.
People who do that generally don’t have long to live.

“I’ll find you if I need you. I’m the house at the end of the road down there. It’s got the cute porch and probably tons of flowers. My girlfriend is obsessed with flowers. So just look out for those and you’ll find me.”
Mal laughed as her cigarette turned to ash in her hand, while the iguana that was starting to crawl away poofed into thin air. Lighting her new cigarette as she pulled it up to her mouth, she took a long drag with a smirk on her lips. “I work at the bar,” She began, pointing over to the building that both fed her and housed her, “So should you ever need an accomplice for anything, you can find me there. I like to practice my magic on actual exciting things, and not just randomly, so really this is me asking you to find the need for an accomplice if you get the chance.”

Haden pulled the animal off him and set it free on the ground. “Come find me when you get that dragon. We’ll work well together then.” Haden pulled a fresh cigarette from his pocket and handed it to the girl. “You’ll need that.” He said before turning her current one into ash.
“Damn right.”
“I figured I’d keep things in context. However, if you want a little bit more so much, a new favorite of mine…” She trailed off as an iguana showed up on top of his heads. “They’re the closest I can get to a dragon right now, but I’m working on it. Over time.”

“Atta girl,” Haden pulled the cigarette out of his mouth. “You’ll need to do a little more than bring back my old cig to prove your powers. Quite clever though. I like the attitude behind it.”
Mal’s back straightened considerably at this comment, and she rose to her feet. Her shoulders were squared, and she looked up at him confidently. “My dreams don’t matter to anyone except for myself, and that’s how I intend to keep them. However, if you need to wipe out a whole class of people, then I think it’d be in your best interest not to insult the people who are most likely to help you. In fact, if you don’t like that some people ‘don’t know enough’ then perhaps you should be showing them your ways, instead of not gaining anything at all.”
At that moment, a lit cigarette that is identical to the one that was in Haden’s hand earlier reappears, however, this time in his mouth.

“Great, another non-skilled magician coming to Bayard with big dreams I suppose?” Haden scoffed. “Come see me when you wrangle in those powers, doll face.”
“Oh, yes sir, I will get on that right away Mr. Lord of the Underworld. I do have high hopes that at some point during my life I will be able to conjure up a few hundred of anything though really.”

“I want them dead. If that takes 300 to 600 soldiers fire bending then do it.”
“Did you know that a ‘cohort’ was originally one section out of ten in an ancient Roman legion, that normally consisted of 300 to 600 soldiers? I suppose I could try and make my own few hundred soldiers who know how to manipulate fire one day.”
“So you’re keeping the peace! I do give you my gratitude. Though only a little bit. The goody ones are my amusement during the day.”
