This is our incredible chaplain team that serves our campus with so much love and joy! Yesterday was Nara's last day here as the chaplain intern, and we will miss him greatly. At his farewell party many people shared about his humility and gentle presence. Our prayers go with him as he returns home to Cambodia. (at Menno Place)

The biggest thing that I learned was how to sit with someone at the end of their life. I sat with many seniors as they passed, and it was a big thing to learn. I have visited with dying people before I came here, I have sat with them and prayed with them, but never to the end. Here I have sat with people at the end of their journey, and to see God’s presence with them, to see them get ready to go to heaven, was a very big thing for me. I was asked to take my guitar and sit with a lady who was in palliative care, and sing to her, and bring peace in her room. Also, she loved to sing. We sang a song together before she passed. I know her family too, and her daughter came, and we were talking, and then we sang together for her. After she passed, the family asked me to record the song that I sang while their grandmother was passing. So her grandson recorded me singing and playing my guitar, to remind their family of that song their grandma sang and loved. I am going back today to record more songs with them. I have a very close relationship with that family now. When I’m back home, I need to tell the people that in Canada there is special care in a Christian environment at Menno Place, and a lot of staff to take care of the seniors. Seniors receive special care. And this Christian environment I want to take to Cambodia. In our country, we need to take care of our seniors like in Canada, and the residents, when they get old. I want to see them notice us; the city here knows about us and knows about our love. Because at Menno Place God’s love is shown. I want to help the people see what God’s love does, and how important it is when we’re dying. Because in Cambodia there is not a lot of seniors care for people with no family. My dream is to see the church take care of the seniors, and the government take care of the seniors. And that way people can see God’s love. We want to show people the true love of God. - chaplain intern, Nara, on his time at Menno Place #humansofmennoplace #retirementhome #abbotsford #ivep #mcc (at Menno Place)

How do you two know each other? Well... it has been over 20 years. My sister moved in here when she was quite young, after getting ill and becoming disabled. I've been visiting from South Africa for over 20 years! We met while I was visiting my sister and that's what started our friendship. We picked berries together one summer and we chatted about everything that you could ever think of. And that's how we started this crazy friendship. Dad lives here now, so I visit my sister and my dad. And I stay with her now when I come from South Africa. (at Abbotsford, British Columbia)
