Things John Walker did in Thunderbolts that gives me hope he's on a path to redemption.

He's still an ass but he honestly had his moments and I'm not against him growing and becoming a better person.

Thunderbolts Spoilers. Duh

He does genuinely try to make Yelena feel better about being a child assassin because she didn't know any better as she was just a child.

We see him as a deadbeat Dad in his shame room when Bob touched him. I know this is a weird one but stay with me here is because the whole point of the shame rooms is that it shows you things you deeply regret. He realized he was being a deadbeat and taking his frustrations of his own failures out on his wife and he realizes that a regrets.

He genuinely tries to work with Yelena and Ava when they try and break out of the vault. This goes double because he doesn't think Yelena's idea to use explosives is a good one but he rolls with it anyway.

Despite having changed into one of the strike teams uniforms and having a way to just walk out the front door, John still goes back for Yelena and Bob so they can get out too

He seems genuinely shocked and hesitates to drive away when Bob seemingly sacrifices himself for them. He only goes when Ava says "Go that's why he did that."

He makes sure both Ava and Yelena eat something as they're walking through the desert even if it's just a cactus berry.

When they're under attack by the Val's convoy and Ava is stunned by the sound pulse after phasing onto the trunk of the car John pulls her back in through the limo's window and uses his shield to protect them from the bullets

Jumps in front of Bucky to shield him from bullets being ricochet back at him

Gets knocked out Bucky up on to Alexis' back so they could all retreat

Throws himself into danger to stop a woman from getting crushed by rubble

Punching out Bob's abusive dad in Bob's shame room as he was coming at Bob aggressively.

Stopped calling Bob 'Bobby' because that was what said abuse father called him and John realized that bothered Bob.
