Own photography taken from the Lorenzo Vitturi:
Dalston Anatomy @ The Photographers Gallery,
London.
Ridley Road market in Dalston is one of the last remaining
examples of a working-class, vividly multicultural London: the
type of neighbourhood that is fast disappearing under the tidal
wave of gentrification that has transformed swaths of east
London over the past decade.
Vitturi arranges found objects and photographs them against
backdrops of discarded market materials, in dynamic
compositions. These are combined with street scenes and
portraits of local characters to create a unique portrait of a soon
to be extinct way of life.
“I was trying to recreate the identity of the market through
whatever I could find there that served my vision of the place and
its energy. So the coloured chalk that is used to cover some of the
faces in the images is sold in little baskets on a stall on Ridley Road.
Later, I found out that the chalk is used as a painkiller in west Africa
for women who are pregnant. Every picture has a hidden story."

Charlie Engman’s fluid, playful images are masterful constructions of models, props, colour, texture and re-arranged space. This image is very interesting
in that it’s a photograph inside a photograph. I like that everything about this image has been considered from the angle of the woman’s head and how her
hair flows to the colour theme throughout focusing on the blue and golden beige in both the photograph and the photograph inside of the photograph.
“My photographic work grew out of a central concern with visual gesture, texture, material and how these elements relate back to the body, both
emotionally and formally,”
“I am interested in this transition from the physical to the visual and the uncertain hierarchy between those two modes.”

I believe that to truly know where photography is going, what is prevelant at the
moment and what the future will hold we need to go back to the start. I chose
this Untitled piece by Erwin Blumenfeld as I admire his work immensely. The
Berlin-born photographer was one of the most internationally sought-out-after
portrait and fashion photographers in the 1940s and 1950s. This photograph is
part of a series of nudes Blumenfeld produced while living in Paris. He sought
to bring out the unknown, hidden nature of his subjects; the object of his quest
was not realism, but the mystery of reality.
The simplicity of the photograph is a favourite part of mine. The image is solely
of a nude woman, taken from different angles which I believe captures the
human form at its best. Blumenfeld developed his own idiosyncratic style, using
photomontage, solarisation, colour slides and a host of hybrid techniques.

This is one of my favourite illustrations by Amber Louise. I love how different it is to a standard
pencil drawing, layering the same image over itself creating a mirroring eye illusion. As my main theme
though out is mirrored/kaleidoscope'd images I may use this image as inspiration for my 5 illustrations.

I love this watercolour piece by Daniel Velasco as it combines the
detail in the shirt contrasted against the abstract face.
