“I lost my best friend” (does Aziraphale know?)

One of the most confusing moments for a lot of people, myself included, is Aziraphale’s reaction to “I lost my best friend.” I’m trying to parse out whether I headcanon that he Knows, and if he does, what his response means.

It turned into a 2000-word-plus analytical post. At first I thought Aziraphale knew, then I thought he didn’t, then I thought he did again. And there are so, so many implications for the whole rest of the story. That one line is such an important moment!

But I’ll put my thoughts behind a read more, for courtesy’s sake.

Hi Neil. So I started university 2 weeks ago. I am 8 hours away from my home and family. I can't sleep. I can't eat. My chest hurts. I miss my family so much. I don 't know what to do. Can you give me some advice.

Yes. It gets easier. Homesickness is real and it hurts, but it fades in time. Look after yourself. If you can join a few groups of like-minded people, do. There are often student groups at universities of people with interests in things and some of those things might be things that you like too.

This is my mental timeline of Crowley’s and Aziraphale’s feelings towards each other. Even though I like the idea of Crowley having been in love for 6000 years, I think it may have been slower to grow.

My moms both read Good Omens when the book first came out, and now with the release of the tv show I read it and am now watching with my moms. I would just like to thank you for giving my moms and I something we can all bond over and enjoy together. It is truly rare that we find something that we all enjoy, especially as fiercely as we all love Good Omens! Thank you for creating such a masterpiece!!

That’s marvellous. I always thought of Good Omens as a “family” show, although I hesitate to use that word, because “family” tends to be a codeword for inoffensive, and it’s not that.
