Synopsis: You're a noble who left her lavish lifestyle to work as a plague doctor—only to fall for a rare sickness, but not to worry! Your butler knows just the man who could have the remedy for your body and mind!
Part 1

!!A heads up( for logic purposes lol) regarding reader being a plague doc: "In many cases, these doctors were not experienced or trained physicians or surgeons, instead being volunteers, second-rate doctors, or young doctors just starting a career."

Cold. Hermit. Insane. These were just about a few names that you were called ever since you tried to expose the sheer ignorance of those in power. Their wrath, however, made you lose a lot of connections and friendships; it threatened to have you lose your family too, so you distanced yourself by settling somewhere between the ill and the deceased, more convenient for the reports you planned to send to the queen. You'd normally visit the infected vicinities to map the possible source and identify the names of the deceased. This time it was a school, and you could only mourn the sight across from you. You thought you'd get used to this, but you just couldn't. Now comes the time for this "acknowledgement" ritual of yours that can't be helped, where you slightly lower your beak mask just below your eyes, giving the dead a "proper" goodbye before sending them to be handled. Had your butler known, he'd order a parade to run you over, but it was your little promise between you and the dead for now.
After you returned home, you made sure to have taken all the preventive measures before changing into your gown—rushing to your study, unable to wait any longer to contact the queen. Dear Your Majesty,
It hurts me to inform you that the situation here has gotten gravely worse—
Your pen glided across the breadth of the paper as drops of blood adorned the paper. Oh God, what could this be? Cough. An erratic, violent urge. Your chair flies back as you stumble, looking for a napkin to cover your mouth.
"Lady [Name!]" your butler calls out your name as he crashes into your study.
"I'm fine, ju—" Your knees hit the floor as you clutch your stomach and mouth.
He lifts off the floor and onto the small bed you kept in your study. "You're lucky he's in town." He rushes to put on his coat. "Please, I'm fine—just need some rest." You try straightening up, but he rushes to push your shoulders back. "Please don't move… or do anything you'll regret!" He clearly had enough of your shit. "Fine."
After a while, hurried footsteps could be heard downstairs along with the frantic voice of your butler. "Thank you, doctor; I know you just came a long way already, not expecting this…"
You wish to see this individual that your butler spoke so highly of, but your eyelids have gotten so heavy—you can only rely on your ears to learn all about him. As the doctor kept inspecting your body, you could hear him let out little frustrated sighs and huffs. Regret starts to pit in your stomach as you hear what seems to be your butler holding back more than just tears; rather, a whole meltdown. "If only you listened, [Name]!" He took a deep breath. "A plague doctor is not a job for a lady like you." I'm no more or less than anyone, old man.
"Ah, I see…", you finally hear this foreign voice. "Fetch me some honey," he told your bartender calmly. The doctor, named 'Kaiser', as you had learnt from the brief conversation he had with your butler, started crushing a concerning amount of herbs. "Haven't done this amount before, but I just can't narrow down what your beloved lady has gotten herself. "No, you should not give him this information, only me! "Doctor…" you said, voice ragged, "I need to tell you exclusively something."
"Hmm?" He stays still, not entertaining you, earning himself a scowl from you.
"If I don't make it, tell my butler I regret absolutely nothing."
Kaiser chuckles, "Hey, that's admirable and all, but you're quite rude, Lady." "Huh?"
_"_You clearly haven't asked the folks enough about me." He smirks, then it dies down as a flick is sent to your forehead. "Ouch!" you slowly try reaching for your forehead in pain. "You were reckless, weren't you?" he asks you as if he were interrogating a child. Finally, your butler walks in, to your relief, with the honey kaiser requested.
"Come on, open up."
Kaiser set an hourglass next to you. "I'll be checking your responsiveness to the medicine I gave you in an hour." You nod in response.
After you had taken the medicine Kaiser had prepared, you felt a bit of relief, but to your dismay, you couldn't stop the intense, bitter burn in your throat. It felt embarrassing to want to cry over something petty like a bad taste. Thankfully, Kaiser had drifted off while your butler did chores around the house. Now that your eyes are a little less heavy, you study the scene around you: Kaiser rested on the chair next to your bed, already fast asleep; it looked uncomfortable how he had his head thrown back to compensate for the lack of space to rest it, which you felt quite sorry for. His briefcase was set open on the counter, containing a few steel instruments and a plethora of herbs, ones you'd only see in books. These are not even sold in neighbouring countries; he must travel a lot to have collected these!
snore…
…!
You struggled to stifle your giggles as Kaiser let out cute little snores—till your stomach ached like an angry neighbour at your door asking to remember its existence. The blue rose-shaped pendant of his choker necklace caught your attention. Its colour so vivid, you can only reminisce a world with such a bright and vivid sky, wondering if you'd both live to see it—how odd… Why'd you include him in your dream? You couldn't put a finger on it, but it felt right. Maybe it was he'd led you to believe in him just as much as he does.
"Ain't it beautiful?"
