OH YEAH i found the meme that got me into KeiSou now. One thing i can say is the show definitely delivered as much pain as the meme promised.

ideas of “are we ready for the ways in which this technology is developing and gaining sentience” will always kind of fall flat to me when the robots in question were made to look exactly like humans. i mean clearly whomever was involved in their creation wanted them to be like people, to blend in fairly seamlessly with and be a part of society. you can’t act too shocked when the AI you built to look and behave like a person starts to think and act like one too.

when the robots are made to look like little flip phones with arms, though. then it gets more interesting. a robot like that starts to act like a person, then we have a real concept of “AI growth worryingly outpacing the restrictions placed on it by its creation.” bc obviously this creature was made to be a useful tool above all else. your average person will look at it and see it as such. it’s in the form of a common object. you can put it in your pocket. but now it’s unexpectedly achieving existential thought and it’s like Oh Shit What Have We Done. we unknowingly went and trapped a fully sentient individual in the body of a 2008 nokia 6086

Thinkin about how KeiSou is a Pinocchio Story but even as he grew to have “human” feelings, Seven can never self-actualise and be “human” because to himself and others, his design, function and identity is a tiny phone with limbs. Which in turn gives him intense existential crises and suffering <3
